I want to be more positive about the Switch's 3rd party prospects, but when a company can't even bother to include functionality for a range of toys that already exist it spells something bad.
I'm surprised Miyamoto didn't push for only having enemies from Zelda 1, or having a 'custom' control scheme. Aonuma, keep that man in check!
Seriously though, Breath of the Wild is looking amazing. Despite everything I'm still excited about the possibility of having Wolf Link as a pet on the journey. I'm a dog person.
Stick it to the Man was a superb game; the stylish characters, the humour, it was like playing Rocko's Modern Life. If this new title is in a similar vein it will be a great game too!
@Spoony_Tech I wouldn't worry. The game is so far along in development that a version for Switch won't take long. It definitely won't take until Christmas, I'd bet my house on it!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE That's what I'd fear of the Switch too. I love knowing that I can take out my SNES anytime and play all those classics I own for it. In thirty years (if I'm alive!) I likely won't be able to do so with the Switch. Not with my basic DIY knowledge.
Why not? It's the perfect kind of 'play for ten minutes or play for two hours' game. Hook up with people to play it on the go too if that's your thing. Alchemy at work; let's make that gold!
If Nintendo wants us to part with our hard earned cash as early as the beginning of March it would be wise to start illuminating all these other elements of the system. Sooner rather than later.
Developers will chase the money. Switch is also a handheld, arguably Nintendo's strength the last two generations. If that, coupled with a vaunted easier development environment for 3rd parties, is present Nintendo might just be able to ride the Switch back to Nintendo levels of success.
How tough this will be is unfathomable, but step one is to make sure the games are there, especially this first year. I think Christmas will be the decider.
@Setery10 It's not that bad. If you don't like it it won't be imposed on you.
The Japanese really give voice acting the gusto, no matter how silly it may seem or sound. When done in English I get the feeling that VA's are overly aware that they're only doing voices for games and don't conform to a professionalism apparent in other acting fields.
Except Kristen Schaal. She should be in everything; she's awesome!
I could accept a steep price tag if I knew the game was large enough. This is Konami in 2017 though. I'll have to wait until someone can go into more depth with the game before I consider shelling out (despite my love of classic Bomberman).
What grinds my gears the most is that the Joy-Con grip bundled with the system isn't the chargeable variant. Nintendo, you could've given us at least that.
The thought of this being on the horizon fills me with hope. In the meantime Echoes will keep us all entertained, as will Warriors and maybe even the mobile title. I said 'maybe!'
An online experience has to be worth paying for. PSN or XBox Live aren't perfect but they give gamers something tangible to attain for having a subscription. Nintendo needs to match these efforts with content or make their subscription cheap, like cup of coffee cheap.
"We're supporting the platform. We are not announcing anything [else] yet, but you can expect us to be there once the platform launches and takes off."
Some more basic textures and less dynamic lighting. If that is the only difference and performance is roughly similar I think it'll be absolutely fine.
Wonder what wonders this Direct will hold. As much as I'd love a new entry in the series I'd be happy with just some gameplay footage of FE Warriors. Nintendo, you would make my dreams come true if I can play as Joshua from Sacred Stones. And Valter; such a great villain!
@Syrek24 It would be great if Switch could reach that level of success; the fact of it being this generations handheld and console might help that. Inversely the 3ds success in Japan hinged on it being a handy pocket device that people could whip out on a commute or other short burst instances. The Switches size and myriad of accessories (some which people deem necessary) make this harder to accomplish.
Personally I'd be happy with a numbered Final Fantasy on the Switch. Here's hoping to its success; we really need it this time.
Sadly we'll have to make up the difference in price by buying unreliable micro sd cards, overpriced accessories and, of course, games to make the whole thing worth buying at all. Maybe it's a good thing only Zelda and Bomberman are there at launch.
@faint Obviously I can but many of my cabinets are tucked against walls and not easy to plug things in or out of. It would have been more convenient to have multiple docks but as a savvy consumer I can't support them at those prices.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE The accessory prices are criminal! I thought I'd be buying a few extra dock sets just so I could comfortably move the Switch around the house to play on various tellys. But at that price I call 'rubbish!'
It's good that it's confirmed for the system, at last, but I honestly expected just a few more games from 3rd parties to be on display from out of the gate. SMT and Skyrim is a good start. Would still love a Kingdom Hearts trilogy or a numbered Final Fantasy.
No doubt Nintendo will rely on a drip feed of info up to the release of, and during the life of, the Switch to keep fans hooked but it could have done with a stronger dash from the starting line. The games so far look sublime but there's just too few of them.
@AlexSora89 I understand completely. I'm a Nintendo gamer at heart; it's always my first machine with a consideration for other devices (PC, PS4 etc) at a later point if it has some games I want. Whereas if Nintendo's systems could reach parity with its rivals not only would we still have Big N's games but also a glut of the 'wanted' level of 3rd party support; not the mediocre indie and shovelware rubbish that drowned the Wii's later years.
Things said in the heat of the moment; Nintendo was the behemoth of the industry at the time and when you have that kind of power you naturally never believe you'll lose it. Despite their missteps I think they've learned some harsh lessons.
I also wondered if Cloud's lacklustre costumes in SSB4 was purely in order to make him fully recognizable to Nintendo fans for a future FF iteration on the Switch. Else why not give him Tifa, Vincent or Barret skins? Sakurai's nose for references is too keen methinks.
It can't be a surprise surely? At this point investing in the Wii U doesn't make fiscal sense. If you're looking forward to any games just hope they're coming to the Switch and press on. Support with your wallet at the next appropriate juncture.

Re: Reminder: Nintendo Wants You to Vote for Your Fire Emblem Heroes

Re: Unity-Made RPG Moon Child Could Be Coming To Nintendo Switch
Generally it looks like it could be a really nice title with a bit of extra polish. I'd happily play this on the Switch if it made an appearance.
The large worm was very Beetlejuice, and I loved it!

@Xaessya Bold, very bold. Potentially true sadly.
Re: Eiji Aonuma Confirms that Breath of the Wild Will Not Support a Japanese Dub Over English Subtitles
If it could be done for the original Xenoblade on Wii I'm certain it could be done here too. Having options is always a plus Big N.
Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Have Video Streaming Services At Launch, But They're Being Considered
I liked streaming Netflix on the Wii U so it would nice if they could bring back these facilities for the Switch.

Re: First Impressions: Getting Strategic in Disgaea 5 Complete
I've never really played any games in the series. Perhaps this would be the title to wet my beak a little with.

Re: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Coming to 3DS on 19th May
This will make for a nice treat once my birthday rolls around again. (Ugh, 30 in May, where did that time go? Oh, right).
Gives me some hope for a Genealogy remake sometime in the future; potentially on Switch or 3DS, or both!
Re: Fire Emblem Heroes Revealed for Mobile, Arrives on Android on 2nd February
I'm a stupidly passionate Fire Emblem fan so I'll definitely give it a go. It couldn't be worse than most mobile titles.
Re: Ubisoft Confident Switch Can Be A "Bridge" Between Home Consoles And Mobile
@SLIGEACH_EIRE They'll have to do some Orlando Bloom hopping to cross that collapsing bridge.

Re: Tales of & Taiko Drum Master Franchises in Development for Switch
Glad that another in the Tales series will grace Nintendo's platform. Here's hoping it's something good and not just a remake of a 'popular' entry.
Re: Gearbox CEO Doesn't See Borderlands 3 Coming To Nintendo Switch
And so the Dark Times begin again.
Switch needs these types of games alongside strong 1st party titles. The latter by itself will not suffice, as the Wii U has sadly proven.
