After months of silence Nintendo is finally getting ready to lift the lid on Switch, and plans to hold special hands-on events next week where members of the public can test the new system before it goes on general sale in March.
One such event is being held in the UK and Nintendo has started contacting those selected to attend from the thousands who applied.

I was contacted before Christmas. Have my train tickets to London for the Saturday morning slot already booked. I AM HYPED!
Yes I am one! No wait, I'm in Australia. Just waiting for a world wide release date. Don't care what the price is, have already pre-ordered
Was contacted about a month ago now
I was contacted before Christmas, can't wait it's going to be brilliant
it's like willy wonka's golden tickets.
@ROBLOGNICK Soooo lucky.Well I hope its everything you think it is.So All hear wish you super super time.
@UK-Nintendo
WooHoo !!
Congratulations !
I'm on the list for Saturday afternoon! I have this fantasy in my head that they are going to allow us to buy one at the event!
Yeah, this was emailed weeks ago. I'm going!
I will be there Saturday morning! Woohoo! Can't wait!
Got my invite this morning too, YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
@Anti-Matter thanks
Nothing yet.
@TbobB we can all dream. I'll be happy with a tshirt to take home
At least by then, we'll know what games we can expect to see on the system. No, I wasn't picked -don't think I even entered or whatever?- but at least this is after the presentation on the 12th. Right?
Saturday morning for me @rjejr ill let ya know!
Can't remember if I even entered, I think that was the one that wouldn't work on a phone so never entered.
Oh well, I'll wait till release; saves me on train ticket fare to go towards the machine itself.
nope nothing for me never mind
Everyone but me, it seems...
@TbobB Unfortunately the likelihood is 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%
they probably only picked like 10 people
@TbobB
I prefer the fantasy where they give you one for free. 😌
@Damo I was contacted for the US switch preview tour. I'm going February 10th with my wife to the DC location. Just thought you guys should be aware as the US one is also reaching out to members.
Yes I got contacted today, but it's no wonder Saturday afternoon was fully booked if they contacted people before Christmas
I receieved an email today, never thought I'd get the chance to play it so soon. I'm going with my son on the Saturday morning. Might see some of you there.
I won the chance to attend, chose my date and time but haven't had a response email yet. What's meant to happen ??
I was contacted this morning, but I kind of wish I was one of the few contacted before Christmas, at least to get a good price for a flight and B&B. Still can't dull the excitement of being able to see it early, even if I won't be able to buy it for a while!
@Mart1ndo
Just imagine the publicity!
@PinkSpider
There is no email response. Your name is on their guest list and you need to provide ID to get in.
@Mossii
I wanted to take my boy too but he's under 12
How much you bettin those who got invited are from down south. I still hate London X(
Didn't bother, getting to London is too expensive
@Marioracer
Yeah, I'm about 30 mins from London on the Train but I'm fairly certain that I only entered giving my email address
@TbobB I'm in the same boat. Wanted to take my boy who loves Nintendo but he's under 12
@NintendoFan4Lyf Well spotted. And the Switch also has 1GB of additional RAM on top of not having to deal with an Android layer.
Seems like we don't have all that much to worry about after all...
To all those having received an invitation and who are actually going to the event: congratulations, have fun and hope it is all that we ALL hope it is and/or will be.
@TbobB excellent cheers.
I applied for a chance to win using 4 email addresses and didn't win on any of them. Bummer, dude! Oh well. It would have cost me £100+ getting there and back... I'll just stick it in the Switch fund.
Got mine this morning. Book in for Sat am. Can't wait!
I've not had an email yet, and I'm doubtful that I'll get lucky this time.
I'm travelling from south east on the Sunday afternoon/evening slot. Anyone else going that time?
@TbobB True True But I still hate the way the rest of the country gets jack poo.
Is anyone from NL staff going to be at this? Will we get full hands on reports from the 14th from you guys?
Excited for all you guys who get to go and try it out. Congrats!
I got my ticket back in November before Pokemon got released. In fact I was informed at the Midnight Launch party I ran. But it is nice to have it made official after all this time
I have also seen a good chunk of the list of games we will be getting to try. Even just the first few guarantee there is something for everyone. Not allowed to say how many or what games. And I wouldn't anyway. Some of the games are so awesome they deserve to be revealed properly. All I have to say is you shouldn't be disappointed. If even half of them are there at launch it will be a step up from the Wii U.
I am going on the Saturday myself in the morning. The hype is real
Street pass heaven !
@NintendoFan4Lyf Well, I'll take "reported" with a large pinch of salt, since it's NOT reported by either Nintendo or Nvidia themselves, so it's FAR from official that it'll be that configuration. But either way, I fully believe it'll be custom hardware, so it won't be comparable to bog standard X1's with Maxwell anyway, and there's of course also the added features of the Switch-specific NVN API and the Vulkan API on top of that.
Vulkan is specifically meant to squeeze more graphical power out of less powerful hardware. The tech behind it and the way it works is actually quite interesting.
If you're interested, more info can be found here:
https://www.khronos.org/vulkan
I got in. I hope it's as fun as the 3DS one was.
I already got super lucky and got to attend the Pokémon Festival back in November, so I didn't expect lightning to strike twice.
That was a fun time too!
@Grandpa_Pixel would we get our hands on the new Mario
Didn't bother entering as I lived to far away, rather save the money it would've cost to get there and put it towards the Switch itself.
@UK-Nintendo Can't answer that I'm afraid as it was not on the list I was given. That does not mean however it will not be there. Just on the chunk of games I got told, it was not on the list.
I shall see if I can pluck some more information
@Grandpa_Pixel thanks
I live in New Zealand. Nintendo doesn't even have a branch here.
Living in big countries has it's advantages.... but with a country which some people seem to think doesn't exist, I'm just hoping Nintendo remembers to bother sending some Switch's our way.
@leuvsion By the way, where is the update you promise ?
Not to be for me, but regardless, I'm excited for all those lucky enough to be going, especially fellow Nintendo Lifers! Have a great time!
@NintendoFan4Lyf I wouldn't mind taking a fellow nlifer since you are local. That's assuming my wife changes her mind lol. I also don't know how you feel meeting a complete stranger for this event....
I live too far away from any of the US event locations, unfortunately. That said, congratulations to those who are able to go to the event! I look forward to reading the first impressions of these lucky people.
I'm going on Saturday morning too yay
@PinkSpider I'm going that time too got my email this morning. I just emailed them back as wanted to take my 4 year old Nintendo mad son but based on the comments looks like he wont be able to go Sad about that as I wanted him to show nintendo how damn good he is at games. He's awesome on our Wii U
@markypickard ha ha sounds like my 5 year old. Hope you enjoy it I'll be taking my 3ds for some street pass final puzzle pieces I need lol
@Hyperion In fairness, the Saturday PM was already booked out by about 10am, a couple of hours after I got my email on the 23rd Dec... So there was no guarantee of getting the Sat PM for those previously notified... Sat AM for my sins - so pleased to be going, just means a 7.30am start to the day, with a 13 YO nephew in tow :-S
I'm absolutely gutted I didn't get an email. Whilst I'm aware that it's completely random, I feel with, the amount of money I spend on Nintendo products, I was due a little bit of karma come my way!!
Also even more frustrating as will be staying in London on Friday to attend the ballet for my girlfriends birthday anyway!!
Oh well, guess I will have to wait until March along with everybody else.
@G0dlike I'm in the same boat. Mega Nintendo collection. Gutted!
@olrodlegacy
Was literally so excited when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.
But it was just a notification from NintendoLife...
Sometimes I think that Nintendo hates us....
@gurtifus soon is a huge update will do a kickstarter post about everything included later this week, stay tuned!
Wonder if there was a criteria for choosing people, or if it was just totally random...
F**K YOU Nintendo I DIDN'T GET ONE!!!! AFTER ALL THE MONEY I SPENT SUPPORTING YOU!!!!! Only joking - love Nintendo! To tell the truth, I probably wouldn't want to go anyway. I want the day when I get one to be one where I experience it for the first time - just adds more excitement to that day.
Just my daily "increase your manhood" email in my inbox.
Hey! Wait a minute! Where's mine?
Nope
I'm going Saturday morning! How to break it to my friend that i have to take the g.f !
I'll be there ... Sunday afternoon and I cannot wait, my wife has never seen a 43 year old man jump and scream so much or as load as I did when I saw the e-mail . ... See you there.
@TbobB i emailed them and they said is ok for my 9 year old boy to come with me( he's so excited)
@TbobB @TbobB i emailed them and they said is ok for my 9 year old boy to come with me( he's so excited)
@markypickard i emailed them and they said is ok for my 9 year old boy to come with me( he's so excited)
Nothing yet 😔
I got an email on 23rd Dec at midday. By which time Sat PM was booked out. Sat AM it is then! 6am start from me from Birmingham, but I couldn't care less as I'm well excited. The kids would normally wake me up by then anyway! They gave me the chance to book either 1or 2 tickets so I only booked 1. I guess the latest invitations were a second batch of ones leftover from people like me who only booked 1 or couldn't make it at all.
Man, I wanted to go so much. I hope there are more emails to come! (I hope the availability at launch is a bit better than this event!)
I got an invite a couple weeks ago for the event in Toronto but didn't pay any attention to it since I wouldn't be able to attend. I didn't realize there weren't that many people invited. I would have offered my spot to a fellow Canadian Nintendo fanatic but apparently the tickets are not transferable
I entered but didn't win
I also got an invite (to the Canadian event), I won't be able to attend either.
Got an invite but making London at that time is going to be impossible. Play harder in my name fellow Nintendo lovers!
I'm guessing the invites that are going out now are to fill any places that weren't accepted... although I don't think people should have entered if they wouldn't have been able to get there, and I doubt there would have been many people who won through more than one of the competitions that were running.
Personally I entered three different competitions to win... one on Facebook, one through the Nintendo UK Online Store, and one through the newsletter... but I haven't been contacted since then, so it doesn't look like I won.
@Donderpants
im going to be in NZ for most of march but my switch preorder is in Australia were I now live, not sure how that's going to work out yet.
@ollyander
Hope the launch date is in the part of March you're in Australia for....
Although it might be worth simply cancelling your Australian one and getting it in NZ instead if the launch date is set during your time in NZ. Unless we stuff up the pricing. Which is likely.
@Donderpants
yep it will cost a little more there. Im just scared to let go of my pre-order in case there is not many units at launch.
@Msmed
Eekers! I've agreed to take the wife now! Shhhh...
@brumspurant We've got a 0600 start too. Did you make a note of the location of the event. It flashed up on my screen but I didn't pay enough attention and now I can't remember the exact detaial ( I actually thought I'd get a confirmation email) I know registration starts at 0830 but please could you let me know the address of the venue so I can plan my underground journey?
@Mossii the event is at Eventim Apollo (previously known as Hammersmith Apollo). And registration does indeed start at 08.30 for a 09.00-13.00 session. I thought it was wierd I didn't get a confirmation email.
http://www.eventimapollo.com/venueinfo
@brumspurant Thank you very much for that. Let's hope it's a great event and worth the early start! 😀
