Re: Soapbox: Grinding Is Poor Gameplay Design That Doesn’t Respect Your Time

Zadaris

It's hard to always strike a balance; if you have to grind too much just to progress it definitely can feel like a chore, but inversely, like in SotN for me, I leveled up so much over the course of the game (wanted to find everything afterall) that the second half felt too easy.

Being able to adjust things on the fly is always a thing that would be nice to see considered, like the encounter toggle mentioned in the article.

Re: Soapbox: When Is The Next 'Big' Nintendo Direct? Oh, Does It Really Matter Anymore?

Zadaris

It's the variety of a full fat Nintendo Direct that really appeals to me; among the myriad of titles shown chances are that there will be something for everyone.

These singular or more targeted broadcasts are practically non-announcements if you're not a fan of the game being shown, and so that poor soul must wait even longer for news.

In the same manner a mediocre title like Bakugan probably wouldn't have garnered such a massive backlash if it had been featured alongside other, more palatable, games.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says His Team Has "Almost Complete Control" Over Creative Direction

Zadaris

So when IS has 'complete creative control' the best they can create are hole punches and staplers instead of actual characters. My oh my.

(And before anyone says, yes I've played the game which is why the hole punch thing really saddens me because the whole disco thing was quite humourous and would have been doubly so if the great dialogue was attached to a fleshed out character and not an office supply.)

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says He's "Not Opposed To The Fans' Opinions"

I preferred Paper Mario when the paper aspect of the world was an aesthetic and not the philosophy that governs its creation. But given Mr. Tanabe's interviews this is likely what we'll have for now.

Because, reasonably, you're going to eventually hit a wall when you run out of paper gimmicks and there are no more office supplies to turn into characters. I'd be interested to see what kind of Paper Mario you try to make at that point.
