There had been plenty of rumours of a new Warriors cross-over coming to Switch, so it was interesting to see that become reality with the announcement of Fire Emblem Warriors with a teasing trailer. Not much of it was seen but it seems Nintendo had a good reason for that approach, having now confirmed a Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct for 18th January.
It was confirmed during today's Nintendo Treehouse broadcast, with the Koei Tecmo title highlighted. Of course, we're also due a Fire Emblem mobile title this year, so that could also make an appearance. Nintendo of America also tweeted the news.
It's going down on 18th January at 2pm Pacific / 5pm Eastern / 10pm UK / 11pm CET, which is 19th January at 7am in Tokyo and 9am AEDT.
As always we'll be hosting the broadcast with a live blog and chat; only five days until more live stream hype!

I love fire emblem
Launch title? Nintendo switch need more launch titles.
I hope it is stuffed full of characters. Oh I am so excited!
Nice! I love the Nintendo warriors collab. Hyrule was awesome, so i know fire emblem will be also, this is how i wanted fire emblem to be.
I hope the next one will be Mushroom kingdom Warriors or a Super smash Warriors or a mix with the smashbros Fighting game and an adventure mode in Warriors style 😆
I hope it's near launch, Hyrule Warriors is proof that these kind of games will be great for huge game droughts.
Here's what I'm hoping for:
-Fire Emblem Fates update and new map.
-Corrin Amiibo functionality.
-Fire Emblem Warrior detail.
-Fire Emblem mobile game.
-......and maybe Virtual console of Path of Radiance and/or Radiant of Dawn.
Can't wait for the direct next week but i still expect that their will be more games for the switch line up.
Even so at least if you look at the whole year then the switch will have a great game every month.
Also it would not surprise me if we get a direct in the last week of February to get more hype for the switch
The Switch presentation needed more gameplay footage. They should have showed some FE Warriors gameplay in it.
Fire Emblem Warriors is the best Nintendo dynasty warriors game idea I can think of. Think of all the characters and weapons!
Great timing! Can't wait for the Direct!
I think this has potential to be great. Maybe if it's not as rigid/robotic as Hy rule Warriors and include a bit more strategy e.g. troop deployment options etc.
Maybe they'll unveil the Fire Emblem mobile app on the 18th.
Fire Emblem is well suited to a Warriors game.
Oh Nintendo, now you are spoiling me X3
I was already hyped with that little tease in the Switch presentation, never even dared to dream we could get some extra infos about FE Warriors so soon.
FE 4/5 remake please
Please please please be a launch title
I have little interest in FE Warriors, but I really want some information on the mobile title they have coming. Unless this is a deep dive into both/either title, I can't imagine this direct taking up even 20 minutes unless they're revealing something else. Best guess is VC releases only because it seems too early to announce a new FE title (that could release this year).
Big fan of Fire EMblem, but honestly I can't stand single-title (or single-series) Directs. The best thing about Directs are the surprises no one was expecting; if you already know which title(s) they're gonna talk about, meh.
Never got to play hyrule warriors so will probably pick this one up.
Gonna call it and say the only thing we'll see of FE Warriors is the same teaser we just saw. The Direct will focus on the FE mobile title and announce the localization of the last of the Fates DLC.
Interesting. I wonder how soon this is coming out if we're getting a Direct for it already. The teaser made it seem like it was pretty far away.
Wonder if they plan on announcing some smaller/eshop titles and addressing the VC situation with Directs in the lead up to launch? It's Kirby's 25th, I can't imagine we won't be getting a game or two this year.
The only Fire Emblem games I've played are Awakening and Fates, so the fan service won't be as great for me like Hyrule Warriors was since I've played every game in that series.
I havent played any Fire Emblem game so i probably wont get all the references.
@danjohnson141 I doubt it will be a launch, otherwise they would've shown it at the presentation.
Hopefully all the main protagonists are playable characters from the start. I would love to start out as Chrom or Lucina.
@Grumblevolcano @Captain_Gonru NoA tweeted my favorite thing, an upcoming game graphic. Can't beleive XC2 is 2017, I assumed Christmas 2018 at the earliest. And I'm giving my kid DBXV2 for his birthday tomorrow on PS4, and a 2nd DS4 for multiplayer, but it's nice to see it there.
Launch is kind of weak, and I'm expecting SSBComplete for the holdiay alongisde SMO, announced at E3, but hey, it's a start.

@rjejr I expect 2017 is just a placeholder for XB2, I wouldn't expect that to release until next year at the earliest. Everything else on there should be released before 2017 is through, however.
Eh, I dunno, I think "Fire Emblem Warriors" is an oxymoron. Fire Emblem is supposed to be a series where (at least on the harder difficulties) you have to be very careful and defensive with every unit, since even regular grunts can readily down them if you're not careful. Whereas the Dynasty Warriors series requires no thought or strategy, you just mash buttons and rush towards the enemies, thrashing them like they're rag dolls. The two concepts don't fit together conceptually. (Although we might like to imagine they can, if we suspend any sense of narrative that Fire Emblem would otherwise have, combined with being overleveled for a particular section.)
Oh well, it's still a better idea than TMS ever was.
More Fire Emblem is always a good thing!
It's not going to happen but I'd pay for a "complete", uncensored, with original Japanese voices version of Fire Emblem Fates on the Switch.
@abbyhitter
Well, the single character you see in the trailer is Chrom.
I personally want Lucina as well.
Nice, I'm curious to see more of this title.
@Alfonzo There are about 6 or 7 here in Japan. Is the west getting the shaft?
TCG western release please! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF MARIO! I want this even more than the switch right now.
Please put in Camus
@roboshort 4 games here 1 2 switch, I'm not paying 50$ for that, Zelda that I can play on my Wii U, skylanders which is on all consoles ever including iPad and last bomber man that actually seems really cool.
I'd really love to see more FE games in the vein of the pre-Awakening games, I suppose that is not going to happen though. Still, a FE collection would be a neat idea as well then, esp. if it featues PoR and RD, as well as the previous game, even the ones that were previously unreleased in the West.
FE Warriors sounds like a decent idea, but I'm not sure I'd really be that interested. Don't get me wrong, HW was and still is the only musou game sofar, I really managed to get into, but it still just lacks depth and basic variety, so after a few dozen hours, it still turns into quite the always-same'y grind. I'm not sure what they could do different for FE Warriors ... it would be basically the same game, just with different characters, moves, items and enemies. It would most likely still almost precisely play like HW ... not sure it'll be worth $60 to me, and certainly it would not be a systemseller to me - not at all.
Frankly, what I really want is a Switch game like Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn, maybe even a "sequel" to those. THAT would be an instant system seller for me. PoR and RD made and still make it worthwhile to own a GC/Wii respectively - no matter what else. Few games can such a lofty claim imho.
I've heard that Fire Emblem Warriors was a 2017 game. I hope that is true.
@IceClimbers Why would they bill the direct as featuring a game we already know about and then just play the same teaser? That makes no sense.
@PlywoodStick I wouldn't say there is such a huge oxymoron here, FE and the Warriors serie actually have a key gameplay element in common, the need to be aware everytime of what's happening on the whole map and plan according to it.
It can appear less obvious in a Warrior game (and I don't deny the strategy is not at level with any strategy-focused game), but just button-smashing enemies while aiming to the objective can easily bring to quick defeats in the more challanging maps.
I definitely have my hopes high in this regard, Warriors games based on other franchises usually borrow some elements from them, and the only thing I can imagine they can take from FE is an even deeper approch on the strategy aspect.
.....or maybe they'll just play safe and make a copy of Hyrule Warriors with the addition of perma death >_>;;;
Would love it if they announce Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance Virtual Console.
well i do like game more than metroid warriors money wise, can use fe amiibo in smash, i can only hope stat gains are fixed for lvling, classing, reclassing, promoting, hope weapons don't break, if this is not going to be a turn based game, hope you don't get wrong weapon or can change depending on your class freely, might be nice if we got a town like fate, thinking gold for currency, hope fights are not one on one, most of the time. hope for easy stat increasing drops but does show limites, could do relationship bonus as well, kids too.
So here's my guesses for the direct:
FE Warriors,
Marth, Chrom, Corrin, Ryoma, and Xander officially confirmed to be playable (The swords in the gems during the trailer belonged to those characters and technically Lucina, but Chrom was shown at the end).
It'll take a similar approach to Hyrule Warriors where it'll focus on 3-5 games for the main campaign (Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates based on the character reasoning above, and maybe one or two more), and the rest will be worked into side stories and/or future dlc updates.
Maybe other characters and locations, but I feel the 5 above will be a fine start and they can do what Smash, Pokken, and Hyrule Warriors did and add a reveal or two in every direct up until launch to build hype.
Maybe some gameplay structure and a strategy based side mode.
Release window
FE mobile
Release Date, payment structure, My Nintendo missons, pretty much everything if its supposed to launch soon
And wild guesses:
FE remaster/VC release of some kind, either individual games or collections. Both Switch and 3DS seem plausible here
Best games to guess would be PoR/Radiant Dawn, FE6, or Shadow Dragon/Mystery of the Emblem as people know Marth Ike and Roy from Smash. Maybe Awakening or Fates HD.
Possible updates for older games:
Pair up battle system, and possibly updated supports (just please don't force kids in where they weren't needed like in Fates)
Option to grind
Possibly Keep the weapon system of buffs/debuffs as opposed to durabilty from fates (Don't really care just pointing out the possibility)
"Master Quest" and "Simple Quest" style versions of the campaign. Master Quest as a more challenging option for those who beat the originals or want to play an older style version of Awakening/Birthright, Simple Quest for those used to Awakening/Birthrights gameplay style and haven't played the older games.
New FE game for the Switch, not even gonna try to guess how it'll end up if revealed.
I screamed when I saw this. At first I thought it was a new Fire Emblem, but that's okay. I loved Hyrule Warriors and Dragon Quest Warriors, and this will surely top them both.
I also think it bodes well for a new Fire Emblem coming. Probably Year 2. Can't wait to see this Direct.
@PlywoodStick
You're right about just tearing through enemies, but there is strategy in Warriors, just a different kind.
@Alfonzo Does seem like it's possible. why do a direct for this if its several months away. I'm so hyped for this game, hyrule warriors was probably my favorite wii-u game.
@Light-Of-Hope I'm right there with you on this. This would be a dream!
I... don't like this. I've bought Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper, and while it can be fun with local co-op, I just found the whole experience to be tiringly repetitive. Perhaps if the Wii U were powerful enough to render ALL of the enemies at once (it's not as if their sophisticated AI is draining the system's resources), I may have enjoyed it more, but to clear out a field of enemies, only for another stampede to materialise out of thin air was frustrating to say the least.
I'm yet to buy Hyrule Warriors on either Wii U or 3DS (as tempting as both limited editions were), however, the 3DS demo proved to me that I just don't have a taste for mindless, repetitive action as it puts me to sleep (honestly, I was struggling to stay awake just playing the demo), be that in the form of a movie (I HATE the action genre; I always doze off in the cinema), or a game.
I hope that Intelligent Systems aren't too heavily involved in the development of Fire Emblem Warriors as I would hate for this to be taking time away from a traditional Fire Emblem experience on Switch (hell, I'd even take a remake).
I may still consider this as I am a fan of the Fire Emblem franchise (particularly if there is a local multiplayer), but I doubt that this will do anything for me.
@Captain_Gonru Minecraft could have the digital ready March 4th and the disc ready November 4th. Maybe they couldn't decide on one date for the calendar? It looks like it's coming, that's whats important. Hopefully the bigger, better PS4 and X1 versio, not the older Wii U/PS3/360 version.
Time to go play Uncharted 4, even w/ over 200 emails left to go, I really left it go while I've been sick the past week.
Gods dammit, new Advance Wars, when?
I really enjoyed Hyrule Warriors even though I hadn't played any Dynasty Warriors games. I will pick this up for Switch. I'd love to see a mainline Fire Emblem game on Switch.
I have 0 interest in a warriors game but will look into this for the mobile game
I'm kinda annoyed with seeing all those comments dictating on what Nintendo should have done or should do, what they did wong or what they should include but didn't. If you all people who complain about everything are such a great developers and know how to represent something better, why don't you do it then? And how come you don't work at Ninendo HQ yet? If you are so great, I'm sure Nintendo can't wait to employ you lol...
Now back to the article. I'm really hyped for another warriors collab game. I have been a Nintendo fan since the nes era (SMB3 was my all time favorite) and KOEI fan since... forever? Played all their games - Orochi W, Samurai W, Dynasty W and TROTK. I even remember playing their online games, it was always a lot of fun even though it had outdated graphics and bad controlls. I just hope they will bring Dynasty Warriorrs to Switch, that would be perfect. The future of Switch seems bright so we might see DW9 on all the major consoles, Switch included!
And Mushroom Kingdom Warriors woul be definitely interesting, smashing through all the goombas with Mario or Peach lol xD
I know Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below (collab between Dragon Quest and KOEI's Warriors) is localized and out on PC, but I hope they will localize the Switch version too. Shoudn't be that difficult since they already have the PC and PS4 version localized.
I don't see any reason to suggest that the direct is about FE Warriors at all. If anything it'll be about the mobile game, which is supposedly out before April and we haven't heard anything about it yet.
Maybe we'll get a release date for SMR on Android.
@chibichibi There was a brief moment during the Treehouse Switch livestream in which this Direct was announced while talking about the Warriors title. It was made clear that the game will feature in the Direct, although there might also be stuff about the mobile iteration.
I still think it's a weird move to show just a teaser in the big presentation - which you usually do when something is a very early project with no solid footage to show - then announce a Direct for 5 or 6 days after.
But apparently that's what we're getting and I won't complain. So excited to see more of this.
@Ralek85 - been hoping for a sequel to Radiant Dawn for a while. Would be pretty easy to follow Nailah Back to her home across the desert with some sort of adventure. Maybe it will happen someday
@Gerbwmu I'd love that, but I really doubt it. While the success of Awakening saved FE from vanishing into the shadows, it also shifted the series into a quite different direction, with a different focus. I still like it, but as far as Awakening and Fates go, I cannot say that I truly still love it anymore - which really is darn shame, although I do not blame Nintendo for this shift, but simply us, the consumers.
@BakaKnight Good point about needing to choose a path to victory in the Warriors series. I doubt that FE Warriors would effectively be much more sophisticated than a Hyrule Warriors reskin, though.
@Noelemahc It's been 9 years now since Days of Ruin, I'm pretty sure Advance Wars as we know it has long since been abandoned.
@PlywoodStick I have the sads. If I want non-fantasy TTBS on the go, this means I have zero non-shovelware options in English aside from Codename STEAM, and it just doesn't click with me.
(I've already imported all Nintendo-consoled Super Robot Taisen, and hope there will be more to come).
When they first showed the trailer for Fire Emblem Warriors I was super excited...but for the wrong reasons. I thought it was going to be a new console installment in the series, but it ended up being another Dynasty Warriors game. I'm personally not excited for it. I played Hyrule Warriors and it was okay, but I never really got into it. Hopefully they announce a more traditional Fire Emblem game in the direct. My fingers are crossed.
@LinkSword I can see why people would draw that conclusion from the Treehouse announcement but there's a possibility that the direct won't be about Warriors and that Nintendo were being a bit misleading here. I got the impression that Warriors was a long way off given that it's only down for 2017, which makes a direct now a bit strange. It'd be even stranger not to talk about the FE mobile title when that's weeks away from release.
@Captain_Gonru 1 2 Switch look slike a $30 game, by Nintnedo standards. ARMS actually looks like a $60 game base don Pokken Toruament being $60 and tis does lok better than that. Now having to pay another $80 for the 2nd set of controllers, well that's were things get dicey for me.
I'm having a hard time w/ the whole "not bundling" thing. Wii launched w/ Sports for $250, Wii Play was $50 bundled w/ a $40 Wiimote, which was god b/c it was only worth $10. Now they have $70 Pro controllers and $80 Joy-cons, and games like 1 2 Switch and ARMS, something needs to be undld. And the $300 Switch needs to be bundled w/ something as well. Besides Swiitomo (Switch version of Miitomo I created FYI)
And the $90 dock needs to be bundled w/ a Roku Express, Chromecast or Fire Stick b/c anything that costs $90 and plugs into my TV better be more than just a charging station, it better be an upscaling DVD and blu-ray player as well.
This could potentially be great and is something I've always wanted to see, given that the two games have a lot in common in terms of concept. The Warriors games are all about taking outposts and such and FE games tend to be all about routing enemies, taking castles, thrones, etc.
My only concern is that this will focus way too heavily on Awakening and Fates. It would be a huge sellout if they ignored any of the past FE games and just focused on the ones who made it into Smash and such. I want to see Lyn, Hector, Sigurd, etc. be playable, not have a huge roster of Awakening and Fates, and then the classic characters merely make it in as joke characters or cameos.
