During all of the commotion that took place surrounding the Nintendo Switch presentation, Ubisoft uploaded a video detailing why Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition is making its way over to the console/handheld hybrid.
In the two minute video we see Rayman's creator himself; Michel Ancel discusses his feelings on the Switch, why he feels a release on the system is smart, and finally teases on particularities of the Switch version. Multiplayer is spoken of in high regard with mini-game Kung Foot, mentioned as "exactly in the Nintendo Switch spirit". Check the video out for yourself below:

People can hate Ubisoft all they want with their relationship with Nintendo, but at the very least, they're trying to make the most out of the Nintendo Switch in its early years.
@AlphaJaguar agreed, although they so seem to be more cautious compared to what they put out in previous Nintendo launches. Better be safe than sorry though, and I certainly appreciate them giving us Steep, it's a genre that was completely overlooked on the Wii U
If you haven't played this gem yet, now it's the perfect time to catch up!
I will absolutely be double-dipping on this one. One of the Wii U's best platformers
I'm actually looking forward to that game! I bought Rayman Legends for Wii U, but the day before it arrived, my Wii U broke down and I had to return it (got angry at Nintendo for not respecting the warranty on the console - their customer service is truly horrible. Luckily Amazon offered me a full refund and I got PS4 instead)
Will definitely be playing this on Switch at some point.
I don't get all the hatred Ubisoft receives around here. They genuinely seem to try with their games on Nintendo consoles, and no one buys them.
Never bought it on Wii U because I hate escort missions,I hope they're gone in the Switch version.
Rayman Legends on Wii U is amazing, I loved Origins on Wii but Legends is so much better.
Their non-show at the presentation outside of the sizzle reel was surprising. They've already said they're working on an at least one exclusive game, makes me think they're waiting to see how the Switch gets on before announcing anything.Saves them from another Rayman Legends situation.
It is a fantastic game which I have already double dipped on (I bought it on Wii u eshop when it was on sale for £8)
Unfortunately I have just recently replayed through it all over Christmas! Had I known it was getting a switch version I would've held off!
Will definitely be getting steep though 😀 Keep up the good work ubisoft 👍
My mate who only games on Xbox was giving me his opinion of what he saw of the coming Switch games. He said "it's good that Nintendo fans will get a chance to play Rayman Legends,it's an old game but I thought it was great," I could only laugh.
I never really got into them. I tried the demo but it is not for me, I guess. I hope Ubisoft releases more games on the Switch. That Fitness game I bought was a total waste of money. Child of Light was charming and rather good. ZombieU had flaws but I liked it. I hated on them when Watchdog came out. I will give them a chance as long as their games are good.
The Best 2D Platformer on WiiU. Every WiiU owner should play it
This game has had so many re-releases. Should've made it a sequel instead!
Rayman Legends would have been a 10/10 if not for annoying touchscreen sections
Why is this not at launch?
@RainbowGazelle Personally I wish they had more games lined up than Just Dance, a three-year-old game I've already played, and Steep. I want me some Watch Dogs 2! Time will tell what other "surprises" Ubisoft have stocked up.
I'll get this for sure, even though I played hundreds of hours on the WiiU version and top100'd the cups ranking.
Things I hope for:
1: Touch screen sections replaced with actual playable versions when playing alone like on the other versions.
2: Finally some new daily/weekly challenge locations and variations.
I think the only things that would make me double dip are an online mode or a considerable amount of new levels. But still, if you don't have it, I recommend it. Great game, especially on multiplayer. I'm not really sure how much I would recommend it if you're just looking for a single player game, because the Murfy levels, while really fun on multiplayer, I found kind of boring in single.
Wasn't really interested the first time around. I might have bit if this made it to launch but nah.
@RainbowGazelle
It's mostly the Rayman situation but also too many people don't seem to (or even try to) understand the business decisions that go into deciding which platform a developer chooses to bring a game to. It's all or nothing for them. They just expect a developer to continue sinking money on a platform in the vain hopes that an audience for their game will eventually appear.
I may get this, but I'm not sure. I never was convinced to get this on the Wii U.
What I'm getting for sure is Steep, it looks wonderful and reminds me of 1080 Advantage.
I'm guessing this means "same game but with motion controls." Barf.
I'd be surprised (pleasantly) if said Switch version isn't 99.9% identical with that of it's WiiU brethren. The difference likely being a mini game or something of that ilk.
Don't worry. They will eventually delay this by a few months so they can do a multi platform release.
@jimi agreed, the definitive version is Wii u due to the additional gameplay options opened up by the dual screen. The game was designed around these after all. We'll have to see what they chuck in to make the switch version special but it would take a tonne of extras to make me re-buy. I love the game but currently own the definitive version 😉
I own this for Vita and it was gorgeous.
I can't wait to have this on Switch
Can't seem to watch the video. It appears that you can't view it in the US.
Hey Ubisoft! If this game doesn't sell well don't claim there's no 3rd party audience on Nintendo. Half-assed versions and 3 year old games probably won't sell too well. We want NEW, AAA titles that are not hindered compared to their PS/Xbox counterparts. Do this and we will buy.
Where's Watchdogs 2, Asssassin's Creed, Beyond Good and Evil 2? Watchdogs or Skyrim(Bethesda) at launch would have been must buys for me. To walk away with Zelda, Skyrim and Watchdogs?!?! Now that's a launch.
Rayman Lengends is one of my favourite games. The switch port is a automatic purchase for me.
Well I skipped this on Wiiu after the whole delay debacle. I guess I'll get this now.
@mateq In regards to Nintendo's customer service, what makes you say that? I'm genuinely curious, because in all my experiences with them, (and there have been many), I've always felt that their service was excellent. Fast, helpful, and very patient, every time.
Don't really know why people dislike Ubisoft on Nintendo. They are the closer third party that Nintendo has on home consoles and really try to put out their games. The games maybe not run as smooth as we grew used to be with the Nintendo's first party, but neither do they on Xbone and PS4 so... It is like get what the others got.
I like them, but saddly their games became repetitives (assassin's creed), but are good in general.
I would've preferred a sequel but as long as there's a load of new content I may be up for it.
@2CUTE4YOU I've only had one direct experience with Nintendo customer service, and that was enough to put me off probably for a very long time. Long story short: my Wii U gamepad stopped working all of the sudden (I always take care of all my electronics, put screen protectors and keep them in cases when not is use). Under the 1 year warranty I have sent it to Nintendo for repair. They insisted that the damage to the gamepad was an accidental damage, not included in warranty, and wanted me to pay £80 (!!) for repair. I swear it just stopped working on it's own and I had it for around 7 months. Amazon (where I bought my Wii U) on the other hand accepted my return (without 2 Wii Remotes and a game which was bundled in my purchase) and provided me with a full refund. Nintendo has much to learn from Amazon.
In my opinion, under the family-friendly image of Nintendo, it is just a horrible money-grabbing company, not caring about their customers and Switch with all it's expensiveness proves it again (not the console, I think it's priced allright - but the accessories and hell overpriced)
Either way, I will keep buying Nintendo stuff as I still love their game, although my love for the company is not there anymore.
I'm just surprised they didn't put Rayman 2 as a launch title for the Switch.
Already 100%´ed this a while ago. Amazing game but probably won´t get the switch version.
@mateq OK, fair enough. I have no experience in warranty and returns, so I guess you got me there. At least Amazon came through, heh? Also, the Switch's accessories are way too expensive, I don't blame anyone for not buying those.
I will certainly be getting Legends on the Switch, day one. I'm so happy its coming as I got rid of my Wii U a long time ago and had missed playing it. My kids also loved it.
@mateq FWIW, I don't think Nintendo is particularly money-grubbing (their avoidance of microtransactions in their mobile games showcases that, oddly, to the frustration of the mobile market.) I think they're just in their own bubble regarding value, and honestly just run a skeleton operation for their warranty department (to be fair their hardware is known to be pretty reliable so there's a little bit of a "Maytag Repairman" syndrome there, too. (In the US, long ago the Maytag Repairman advertising showed the Maytag appliance repair man as one lone retirement age guy at a dusty old desk with absolutely nothing to do all day but to try to amuse himself because Maytags, apparently, never broke.)
Accessories, I think are priced high for two reasons: 1) They NEED to price them high right now to prevent too many people from buying them because probably 70+ % of all controllers & docks manufactured right now are going into the console kit boxes. There aren't many spares floating to sell until after the launch market stablizes, and they can make some batches of controllers and docks that don't need to immediately go in a kit. Those prices will come down after the first 6 months or so. Or at least after Holiday 2017.
Also, they're probably under-pricing the hardware of the main console. That's a lot of bleeding-edge tech (slightly more power than a WiiU with a FAR smaller thermal envelope and power profile, running on a battery and fitting in a 1/2" thick slate....INCLUDING the gamepad's functionality...) Thus the accessories subsidize the losses on the console itself.
There's a lot of cost shifting to make the unit look justifiable to the consumer and let us nerds subsidize the program for a while.
OR they could be like Sony in 2008 "And it's ONLY $600!" (crickets)
Haaaaaaaaa a four year old port. I'm looking forward to picking this up used and on the cheap.
@jimi
♪lies lies lies, yeah!♪
@mateq I will concur that I also had the single worst customer service experience of my life w/ Ninendo, bar none. It was really disheartening and eye-opening at the same time--their goal seemed to be not so much to remedy the situation, but to put sufficient roadblocks in my path to make me give up.
Once i got the Better Business Bureau involved, however, they finally cried "uncle", albeit months later.
Shame can't watch due to being in the USA
Now if only there was some way to migrate my game (especially the save) from WiiU to Switch...or even have some sorta upgrade pricing, even for those of us who bought it physically...I'd send back my WiiU discs to upgrade them to Switch copies..
Rayman Legends is a solid game. Gave it an 8/10.
Hopefully they can add these things to it -
Length, it's horribly short.
Challenge, besides a few late levels you won't die more than maybe once due to a dumb jump.
The daily challenges were fun. But I say this as someone who paid $15 for it. If I had paid $60, I would have felt gipped for a game that took me like 5 hours to tear through.
Thus is one game that can F off, after upsetting Wii u fans with delays and global release they are taking the piss asking us to buy it again!
@mateq It's entirely possible it may be a regional issue.
I've sent them a DSi (dead pixel problem) and a 3DS (hinge problems) for repair before. I was pleasantly surprised when they completely replaced both of them.
I'm located in NA though so maybe that has something to do with it.
@RainbowGazelle How are they trying by porting a 5 year old game?
It's beyond me why would people who own this game on the wii u buy it for the switch. what's up with the old af ports for the switch anyway? they should've made a sequel or a different game
Ubisoft, I'd kill for Watch_Dogs 2 on Switch. I'll give you monies...
Video not available in my country :/
It'll likely be held back and released as a 'multiplatform' title.
Nobody cares Ubisoft.
Haven't played it before. Might be fun. The game itself looks clever. It also played a major part in the misadvertising of the Wii U in North America. I don't know if this was part of the deal for getting the game as an exclusive, but every Wii U demo station that I ever saw prior to launch and for months after either had no demo or had Raymond Legends. This was the game that they were using to show off the console to the general public. Not Nintendo Land. Not New Super Mario Bros. Wii. By my own personal observation, many people picked up the controller out of curiosity and were confused or not interested in Legends. The game then didn't even make it as a launch title, and then wasn't even a console exclusive, making the decision to make it the only demo even more foolish. So while a platformer that can be played with two people would make sense on the Switch, I'm not rushing to preorder this one.
@jcgonzmo I meant they tried for Wii U. We got Assassin's Creed 3 + 4, Rayman Legends, ZombiU, Watchdogs. Yet no one bought them. No wonder they're being more cautious this time.
@Equinox so NBA 2k18 is old?? Lol.which was in the highlight reel
Switch not region locked.
Video of an interview about a reboot of a Wii U game is.
Really Ubisoft?
Never got round too playing this on the Wii U i might pick it up if it's at a good price.
