@Not_Soos

I love that he called it a computer game haha. I'm aware its not technically accurate, but in the 90s computer games was a general catch-all term for interactive entertainment in the UK, as when gaming began to take off it was via home computers more than video game consoles.

Just nice to see British English terms pop up now and again as the internet has so many younger Brits using American English - the sound of a British youtuber talking about the 'ZEE' trigger on an N64 controller or the 'ESS-NEN-EE-ESS' makes me sad.

I don't watch much contemporary media so I haven't seen anything by these two, but I think casting unknowns is the right way to go. Part of the appeal of Link in particular is the blank canvas he represents (he has little to no character outside of brave/loyal, especially in the earlier games) so to have a unknown actor in the role doesn't distract the audience by having them imprint a more well-known star's persona on to Link.

@DollyrotsFan1 Not sure I agree that they supposed to be 'in love' with each other; the depth of their relationship is dependent on the game and individual fan canon. The earlier games, especially, suggest no more than a 'hero-damsel' relationship. i would suggest a deep affection/mutual respect is closer within the majority of the series.

Re: Physical Game Sales Took A Nosedive In The UK Last Year

I was over in the UK for the first time in a few years for Christmas, and one thing that stood out is the reduction in shelf space for games in general. When I was last over in 2019, for example, my local Asda has a whole aisle for physical games, that is now down to a fifth of an aisle. HMV stocked barely any games. GAME is no longer a games retailer that also sells merchandise, but is instead a tat retailer that also sells games on the side.

Of course, this could be a case of catch-22, with demand informing what shops stock, but I would suggest in factor that has informed a decline in physical media is that they aren't as readily available on the high street as they were pre-pandemic.

I have lived in Japan for 14 years. My wife is Japanese. My daughter is dual heritage. I studied an MA Japanese studies at University.

There is nothing the Japanese like more than to pretend they are politer/more civilized than other countries; in fact, it has a basis as practically government propaganda with theories such as nihonjiron. They in no way are. They are as ignorant and self absorbed as anywhere else.

Out there in internet land there is no number of people - both Japanese and Japanophile - desperate to propagate the misinformation it is only “the evil white tourist doing this”. There's plenty of it going on in this thread, for example. Don’t allow yourself to be tricked into thinking otherwise
