Thanks for the reminder of the "awful" music in this game ... since it's one very important part of games in my book, I know better than to get this one for home exercises. Good that they're giving the game added visibility with this Switch 2 version though.
So Switch 2 is sold at a loss? I haven't heard that before. What is the source? That would be the first time since they never sold their consoles at a loss before ... or have I been living under a rock all these years?
lol ... as if that's something anybody could need XD I was surprised that they'd actually come up with a Youtube app for Switch 2 ... what is the point...
Reading such open and passionate devs talking about their project and releasing a proper physical game really makes me want to buy it. I'm not into Indy at all, never been, and I'm pretty sure it won't be my kind of game either but I can see myself getting tempted ....
I will certainly be participating in this event! I cannot miss a single theme, having the complete collection in my beautiful Tetris 99!
This one sounds like it has a nice fitting music and Tetriminos that pop out just the right amount. I wonder if the "voice" will be annoying at some point, for now it sounds funny.
I have no interests in FF or MMORPG. But happy for the ones looking forward to it on Switch 2!
I'm curious though, you need to buy the game and pay a monthly fee. So you cannot try it for free? If you buy the game and stop paying for the sub you can no longer play it?
@Morsel Yeah, SMG2 is more challenging and demands more quick actions. I hope you can find a way to keep enjoying this wonderful hobby for a long time. And no need to rush with the game, it's beautiful to look at and the soundtrack is delightful too.
@Morsel Thanks! I went in with the lowest expectations but it turns out I had a good time with it. Maybe playing through the first one prepared me for this. I thought it was much improved, more varied, and I actually did enjoy the most of it. If I had one complaint: they should have included some sort of health bar for the bigger bosses.
Unrelated but have you maybe played Morsels, and is it any good? Reviews weren't particularly glowing but it did catch my eye during the directs.
Have fun with all your games, SMG2 is so much fun, just the right amount of challenge!
I'm about 2/3 through Patapon 2, and I plan on rolling the credits. Surprisingly, I've been enjoying it much more than #1. There are still those frustrating/cryptic moments here and there but it's overall much more fun.
I really want to make some progress in Metroid Prime 4. The eletric towers and disappearing robots brought my enjoyment of the game down quite a bit, and I'm hoping it will come back up once I reach the next area.
I'm going to play a couple of championships as Min-Min while hoping to join a few Ranked Matches. I noticed sometimes there are other people playing ARMS online in the weekends.
Of course, I am also going to participate in the weekly ritual of Tetris Effect Connected.
There is the demo of GRIDbeat! that I want to try.
And all the discussions made me want to go for another round of Sayonara Wild Hearts to see what's new on the Switch 2 version. I've got a fond memory of it, it will be nice to listen to that pop-y soundtrack once more.
I'm also a lot into Fitness Circuit, more than normal, and I aim to reach rank 190 before the end of the month. ๐ช๐ป
And finally, I think I will start Animal Well. Really curious and looking forward to it.
@AnonyQ I have under 3h accross 4 sessions. Like somebody else mentioned: it's like a pop album, so I guess you can listen to it as many times as you want. Gameplay is extremely basic, it's just left-right if I remember well. It is a nice experience but don't expect anything mind-blowing like some people make it out to be. Cool visuals and effects. Maybe if the "story" really speaks to you, but it's so vague ...
Curious which extras they will bring ... Sayonara was fun and the soundtrack was nice, but it's a one-and-done 1h arcade "experience". Hope they make a physical for Lorelei ... been waiting on that one!
Thanks for the review, I also love a good rythm game! Went to bookmark this on the eShop waiting for a demo to find out there already is one ... sweet!
@B3RTAY A-greed ๐ Having backed the project on Kickstarter, I am glad to be getting the physical edition I paid for 3 years ago, luckily I do have a Switch 2. But broken promises, laziness and greed will leave stains on this experience. You are right to focus on the bright side: at least it will come as a proper physical version with the game on the cartridge! Now hoping for it to be a great game!
@B3RTAY Yes. They didn't formulate it like this obviously, but the reason the dev team gave to justify not releasing on Switch anymore is that the publisher wants to reduce costs (licensing, certifying, porting, optimizing are all costs tied to each additional system you want to release your game on).
Completely lost interest in this. What a shame. Have fun with your movie and your GKC release ... there are so many other games and films for me ๐๐ป
I hope that these explanations will give back hope to the people who felt let down by #3.
I never cared much for the stories and details of these games, however I'm a huge fan of the gameplay, aesthetics and music.
I certainly hope that they're already working on #4! ๐ With or without Kamiya, they already have everything that they need to make many more amazing games.
@Tom-Massey I wonder if you managed to beat the "true" final boss? It keeps on crashing during the loading sequence just after the final boss of the boss rush challenge. Restarting the game gets me back to the begining of the boss rush. I can't go further. I've been playing on my Switch OLED.
Turns out Gravity Circuit is more like the 8-bit Mega Man games while this is much more like the 16-bit Mega Man games.
The game crashed on me after almost every single level. Either going in or coming out. And the initial load screen is just pure black and super long. Aside from the gameplay, everything feels so unpolished and rushed. I don't know if it's based on an existing IP, but like this, the story and characters feel like they're coming out of nowhere and make no sense whatsoever. Maybe as a parody of something? I would definitely not qualify this as a modern retro game. I'd say the music is really the highlight here, everything else is average at best.
Still not quite sure what to think of Metroid Prime 4 Beyond. I loved the demo, and now working through the electric towers, but it feels like it's missing an incentive. Let's see if it will click with me at some point. I love how smooth the gameplay is, and the possibilities offered by the psychic powers.
I'm done with my first playthrough of Berserk Boy, now I'm going back for the medallions and rescueing all the resistance members. I very much enjoy the music, everything else is just average. And it crashes every other level so the game needs to be reloaded... It's a bit more fun with all the orbs though, so let's see how the second playthrough goes!
Also going to participate in the weekly ritual @ Tetris Effect Connected.
Anyone in need of a Switch 2, you get a chance at winning one when you purchase the game from SRG. That's what they mentioned in their newsletter. Why not mention that in the article too? And thanks for the mini-interview, maybe highlighting the questions in bold would make reading easier and more natural.
I'm waiting on (well first a review but hopefully) a physical edition of Gecko Gods, maybe that's what's coming sooner than expected ..?
The dock is such a handy thing to just "drop" the console in. I find connecting a dongle or even just a cable more cumbersome. But I get how lighter it is to travel with a dongle. Since the S2 is also a great handheld, I wouldn't bother with any of these. But nice to know and good for people who need it!
If they have too much money to waste it on projects like this, they could consider giving it to a charity instead ...? That would show that they do have some brain cells left ... this is ... I cannot find the right word ๐ตโ๐ซ
Sounds very James Bond music material indeed. One listen is enough though, I find it overwhelming. Lyrics are super cheesy and I just want to answer "No, I don't want to play this" XD. But I do appreciate the effort they're putting in the music, it's definitely one key aspect of a good game. And with James Bond you can't just use keyboards right XD
I've pre-ordered Mouse: P.I. For Hire and should get it in July. If Gecko Gods gets a physical release I will get it and otherwise in a few years when it will be a couple of euros I'll download it.
Already 99.9% the Switch 2 version, which was fun. I'm not going to play it again, unless they fix the random bug that won't let me unlock the last costume. 60FPS makes no difference to me.
To use the wording from the article ... I will not be "showing my support" because it is a GKC. Imo, game downloads can easily wait for a huge discount. I also still need to play the demo to be 100% sure. I won't get the Amiibo either, I find the girl character a bit creepy.
Somebody mentioned this before regarding the UK sales I think ... why not call the GKC just "retail" version. It could be a way to differentiate it from actual physical.
I get it that some people care and some don't, and that's perfectly fine. But clarity is also good for those (of us) that care.
Why should code-in-a-box get a specific term and we should pretend GKC are the same as full-on-card releases?!
Thanks for the review. Good to know this won't be a game for me to enjoy ... I was attracted by the setting and visuals, but testing my patience and watching a film are two things I absolutely hate in games. Thanks for mentioning the compromises as well, it always helps to get into a game with the right expectations.
Strange not to mention the actual physical release, since that is so rare nowadays. It should be coming my way on July 10. Really looking forward to it. I'm usually not into FPS, but this one convinced me. The specs don't really speak to me, but it sounds like it will be doable, right?!
I'm traveling this weekend, and I've started Metroid Prime 4 Beyond (Nintendo Switch 2 Edition). I've been enjoying mouse mode in the train and will continue on the way back. Not sure what to really think of the story and gameplay so far, but the game sure is gorgeous, and also pretty immersive.
I pre-ordered the Switch version since it's the only physical one. Got a mail a couple of days ago that it was delayed from 10 to 11 April. It's not yet been sent though.
Wow ... so they already sold 30 millions of this game and they can't make a proper physical edition, and expect 80 EUR for it. I was really curious about this one, but just like Hitman, my backlog will say thank you. I cannot support that much greed. Plus I'd like my money back from Little Nightmares 3, what an ugly and boring game that was!
The OG Legend of Zelda in a beautiful artstyle and modern features would be awesome. Oh, and we could switch on the fly between pixels and new graphics, as well as between MIDI and fully-orchestrated score... ๐
Link to the Past is one of my favourites and I never got to play Between Worlds, so that would be my second choice. I guess it should be pretty straight forward to turn this one around with the Awakening/Echoes look and call it a day.
Hopefully some parts of the rumours are true and we'll see some sort of Zelda game this year! How about some more spinoffs/cross-overs too?!
@Max_the_German I'll go even further and say that the combat was absolutely boring, even more than the endless useless dialogues. But still a good game, for the time. Way too linear though, most sidequests could not be skipped as they were integrated into the main quest.
I played it again on Switch, and the controls were still clunky, especially the celestial drawing, which was quite the disappointment.
But, it cannot be denied that it left its mark. And I admit I am curious at what they will accomplish with the sequel.
And ... @Ichiban I wouldn't say no to a glorious Amaterasu Amiibo ๐
Just hope that Capcom handles this anniversary better than Platinum did with Bayonetta ... we did get a beautiful jacket but no Amiibos, no books, no ports/remakes/remasters, no new games ...
The demo sold me, I've pre-ordered Darwin's Paradox with LRG. They sent a mail saying it was delayed to end of year, but I don't mind the wait. I like a good stealth game, and with a humorous twist that will be new to me. I still have to play the Pragmata demo, and they haven't announced a proper physical yet, so I'm not in a rush. The Mouse game could be something, but I'd like a demo first.
Haven't seen the film yet, but I find the designs nicely colourful and cheerful. I would get them for myself if I didn't already have an overfull closet. Good thing they're not selling them in theatres, that would be an instant impulse buy ... and getting one would mean getting them all XD
Getting kicked out of the galaxies when picking up a star feels so outdated now, but aside from that, I've just replayed both games to 100% and they are super fun, creative and absolutely gorgeous on the Switch version. For somebody looking to get a Switch 2 who just saw the film and never played the games before, it certainly is a great deal to catch, even without the small discount. You're in it for at least 50h of pure blissful videogaming.
I keep seeing pre-orders for physical versions of this game with a placeholder date and wondering what it's all about. Now I'm definitely pre-ordering this as soon as they give a date. Looks very unique for a genre of game that is so very common. I'd rather a Switch 2 version, but I won't start that physical discussion.
@Rykdrew I think it keeps track of the weekly challenges for all the previous years. In all cases they are challenging for sure! Good luck, have fun with it, and I will read you again next week ๐งก๐ฎ

Haven't seen the film yet, but I find the designs nicely colourful and cheerful. I would get them for myself if I didn't already have an overfull closet. Good thing they're not selling them in theatres, that would be an instant impulse buy ... and getting one would mean getting them all XD
Re: New Limited-Time Switch 2 Offer Features A Small Saving On Mario Galaxy
Getting kicked out of the galaxies when picking up a star feels so outdated now, but aside from that, I've just replayed both games to 100% and they are super fun, creative and absolutely gorgeous on the Switch version. For somebody looking to get a Switch 2 who just saw the film and never played the games before, it certainly is a great deal to catch, even without the small discount. You're in it for at least 50h of pure blissful videogaming.
Re: Holy Moly, The Eternal Life Of Goldman Is Looking Really Darn Good
I keep seeing pre-orders for physical versions of this game with a placeholder date and wondering what it's all about. Now I'm definitely pre-ordering this as soon as they give a date. Looks very unique for a genre of game that is so very common. I'd rather a Switch 2 version, but I won't start that physical discussion.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (4th April)
@Rykdrew I think it keeps track of the weekly challenges for all the previous years. In all cases they are challenging for sure! Good luck, have fun with it, and I will read you again next week ๐งก๐ฎ
