The latest UK boxed charts data is here and this one paints a slightly quieter week for Nintendo amidst some tough competition.
Continuing its triumphant return from last week, Super Mario Odyssey has managed to improve on its previous numbers and this time manages to land in seventh place thanks to some remaining MAR10 Day sales and the recent Switch bundle.
Alongside Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at fifth and Minecraft in tenth, these three titles make up the only Nintendo appearances in the top ten this week, with the big hitters all coming from other consoles. Resident Evil 4 debuts at the top spot, with 73% of its sales coming from the PS5. Hogwarts Legacy remains in second place while last week's champion, WWE 2K23, drops down into fourth.
Elsewhere, Metroid Prime Remastered has taken a tumble from last week's fifth place, dropping outside of the top ten to land in 13th. Interestingly, every single title from 11th-23rd position is a Nintendo property this time around (with the likes of Animal Crossing New Horizons and Nintendo Switch Sports up top and Breath of the Wild and Splatoon 3 further down), so perhaps next week will see a return to form for the Switch's chart placing.
Without further ado, here's your look at the top ten:
Last Week | This Week | Game |
---|---|---|

1 | Resident Evil 4 |
2 |
2 | Hogwarts Legacy |

3 | FIFA 23 |

Every time I see GTA V in the top 10 weekly charts I lose a little faith in humanity
My bet - the always stagnant UK charts will see Hogwarts on the top 10 for the next 3 to 5 years. The game is an absolute blockbuster the world over.
My 2nd favorite Switch game!
@Axecon Why? It's a great game.
@Axecon I agree. Where's the love for Paw Patrol: Grand Prix!?!
Well 16 of the top 23 games in UK being Switch only titles doesn't sound too bad.
Almost Japanese charts level.
That Top 10 chart (except Mario games) looks really disgusting for me. 🤢
@Clyde_Radcliffe
I don't think so.
@Anti-Matter I heard Rockstar did pretty well with this game and might make a sequel.
@Anti-Matter More than 100,000,000 people do.
It's nice to see games like this and Mario Kart exist that aren't just considered well-made and popular for a couple of months like most modern entertainment, but are enduringly popular into a new generation that either didn't exist or weren't old enough to play at launch.
Says a lot about the state of modern gaming that a top-tier game from 10 years ago still holds up today.
I'm glad the Switch version of Resident Evil 4 is selling again even though it's not a remake. Thanks to the remake, the Switch version will not get overprice by scalpers.
Man, for a website named Nintendo life, they really seem to hate Nintendo. Quieter week? Yeah they only have 3 of the top 10. But they also have places 11-23. They just need to stop with the misleading titles.

@Anti-Matter I like evil games because I can separate reality from fantasy. As such, Shin Megami Tensei is one of my fav series. I choose the most evil path I can in most games.
But I respect where you are coming from as well. cheers~~
odyssey been at 40 bucks for a while now

GTAV really will never die. How many households does this game inhabit at this point?
@PepperMintRex evergreen title that must be purchased for each firstborn male heir in that they are legally entitled to lands and titles of nobility.
It is no surprise that Resident Evil 4 is on top. That remake has been getting all sorts of positive press. Seems like Capcom has truly done the original game justice.
I got fifa 23. Was on sale. It’s fun
"Maybe if people stop buying it we might get a new game."
I'll just use this quote for not just GTA V, but Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as well.
@Vil Those are for the next console. If they didn't tie in a new Mario with the movie - they are waiting for the next console.
The switch released with Zelda as it's flagship. NeoSwitch will use it's plumber. Mario has been quiet outside of the movie and the park - I think they are hard at work making it a big surprise blockbuster. We will know come Fall 2023.
@Axecon it's a fun spacious vehicular sandbox with niceties like behind-the-wheel view (the kind you can still seemingly count on one hand) and the trademark caustic tragicomical satire the franchise is known for, the kind of game to fool around in for dozens of hours if you're into its genre, and I'm just talking single player here. A lot of people in PlayBox target audience consider it one of the staple buy-and-keep-installed items for their libraries in the same vein that Switch owners find it a no-brainer to get MK8DX (although this is coming from the guy who has yet to pick it up himself😅). So as long as the consoles GTA 5 is on continue to sell more units (and until/unless GTA 6 steals its thunder someday), buyers of those units will always have the odds of considering the game as well.
@Anti-Matter fans having the nerve to condemn anything, fans claiming that something shouldn't exist... isn't it too much irony for one comment thread? Calm down and let your human self use the keyboard again, thanks in advance.
We are in a period of relative stagnation in game development and this list is a good indicator as to why this is the case. It’s all remakes and established franchises with relatively little novelty or innovation. Hogwarts is fun for a while but until it ultimately becomes another open world grindfest. It seems like smaller studios are the only ones willing to take a chance on unique projects that aren’t a million hours long.
@NotTelevision The 3rd largest publisher of video games - Nintendo - made a game where you have literal remote control karts that you race around the house to terrorize pets.
Was that taking a chance?
@Cashews Hey I like Mario Kart: Home Circuit. Didn’t buy it myself, but tried it out at a friends. And yes his cat naturally knocked me off course 😝
Not bad, considering Switch is now 6yrs old.
@NotTelevision game is totally worth. I bought Mario AND Luigi little cars during the sale Nintendo threw before Xmas. Two cars gets a little wonky but I have two kids and multiple pets in dire need of more kart racing fear.
I know soccer is quite popular worldwide, but still quite surprised FIFA is selling so well given has been out so long, and that got (like many in the series for a while now) not so good reviews.
So is this now 10 years GTA5 has been in the top 10? Madness!
I wonder if we will ever get a Super Mario Odyssey 2 or the next 3D game will be something different. I am still disappointed we didn't get a New Super Mario Bros Switch and thought they would have made a third 2D game after New Super Mario Bros and New Super Mario Bros U were on Wii and Wii U.
Thanks to Mar10 day sales.
I'm sort of disappointed we didn't get a Mario game of some kind. I guess there is still a chance for Q3 and Q4 of this year, maybe. I'm doubtful but you never know.
The good news is that hopefully they really will release a new 3D Mario soon, as in next year or so.
I thought they might save it for the next Switch, assuming there really is a new Switch by 2025 but at the moment there is a chance it could come out next year anyway. If the next main Zelda title comes out now then I don't see why a new 3D Mario can't come out on the same Switch, though.
So we'll see what happens when they're ready to show something, like they've said. I'm just assuming next year for now. Still have a feeling there could be a new Switch but maybe it will come out on both consoles if there is. You just never know what exactly is going to happen that far ahead right now.
In other news, I'm glad Super Mario Odyssey is still able to sell well as it's a really good game.
Mario and Minecraft. I think they will sell well till the world ends. LOL
@Clyde_Radcliffe
It was a great game......... 10 years ago
Pokemon seems to have dropped off the charts pretty quickly...despite selling so well in the beginning. I enjoyed the game but never played the post-game or competitively, so I wonder if people who did buy have been less likely to recommend and that's contributed to a lack of longevity?
@Debbiee I would love an Odyssey 2, however, I feel like the first game was packed so full of good levels, I am not sure they held any ideas back for a sequel. What kingdoms could they do that they haven’t already done? Possibly a futuristic kingdom?
As others have said, Mario Kart needs a New Donk City track!
As BOTH an owner of The Nintendo Switch OLED and The PS5, I can honestly say this list is Accurate.
@Anti-Matter why? I mean I can understand the fifa franchise and call of duty, but honestly the other titles are well Deserved. It's to be expected, this list.
@NintendoEternity
I prefer the underrated games than over popular games.
@cpmh1234 one of the very few pokemon games I wouldn't recommend after playing & doing some post game.
During it yes, loved it. Post game / competitive is the least fun & interesting I've had in a pokemon game.
Tera types aren't really fun. The battles also seem to go way way too quickly. Slow it down, please.
@cpmh1234 Pokémon sales are always front-loaded in the extreme, the games come out and sell literal millions in a few months then the reality of the games' quality becomes an issue and the sales fall off a cliff. It's been happening like this for a decade, though admittedly I'm not caught up with the sales numbers of Scarlet & Violet just yet but it definitely happened with Sword & Shield because once the next games come around Pokémon fans move on.
I think it's a kind of addiction tbh, speaking as a reformed Pokémaniac 😉
@DwaynesGames I am not sure but I remember reading there was originally going to be a Kingdom based on Isle Delfino from Super Mario Sunshine and they have since re-released 'Super Mario Sunshine' since then in the 'Super Mario 3D All Stars' collection but I would love to see a bigger more modern version of Isle Delfino and always loved that area. I think it would be fun if they made a Mario game similar to Sonic Generations and had 2D and 3D versions of classic levels from the old games. Also a Mario Maker 3D could be fun but that might be hard for them to make.
Love to see Odyssey still do well in the charts!
@Debbiee Great ideas. It would be fun to revisit Delfino Island.
I was hoping for more Mario Maker 2 content too. I want tools to make 2D levels like those in Mario Odyssey (e.g. wrap around corners, hidden walls, reverse gravity panels).
