Re: Nintendo Announces Establishment Of New Local Entity In Singapore

Untempered-Link

I always found it surprising that despite having such strong digital sales in markets where an eShop is available, that it isn't available globally.
The Switch was so successful, I genuinely think the only way to boost sales is to make sure marketing and sales are pushed at a regional level. To this end, this move makes perfect sense.

Re: Opinion: Resident Evil Requiem Represents A Turning Point For Switch 2

Untempered-Link

Like many other commentators here have pointed out, I think it all depends on sales. If the Switch 2 continues to sell well, and ports on it also sell well, then publishers will keep putting the effort in to put their games on the system.
As for the Resident Evil series, it doesn't strike me as the sort that would naturally attract Nintendo fans, but I would happily be proven wrong

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Director Acknowledges Performance Drops: "We Prioritized Fun And Playability"

Untempered-Link

I'm really disappointed in the absolute tantrum that some people are having in reaction to this. All it does is stop developers being more candid in future interviews.
Personally I think the reporting on this has left out a few key details, namely about the framedrops themselves. If it's fairly infrequent and it means that we can get the gameplay mechanics that they've shown off then I don't really mind at all.

Re: FBI Shares Official Statement After Seizure Of Major Switch ROM Site

Untempered-Link

I think what a lot of these comments don't understand is that this isn't a move by the FBI (and the eventual civil case by Nintendo) to target people who download pirated games, but to target the people who operate sites that host them.
And honestly I can't really say I blame them, regardless of the whole "a pirated game isn't a lost sale" argument, they are still allowing people to freely access software that they would otherwise have to pay to enjoy. I can understand why Nintendo and law enforcement would want to act on this.

@nessisonett spot on with the comment about Kate leaving.
Quite why anyone at NL thought it would be okay to have an open comment section on this topic I don't know.
Clearly no lessons learned from the countless other times that this exact same thing has happened on the site. Really disheartening as a LGBT+ reader.

Re: A New Tomodachi Life Game Is Coming To Switch Next Year

Untempered-Link

Oh boy, I adored Tomodatchi Life of 3DS. Having a hotel full of celebrities, fictional characters and family members was a lot of fun! I love the creepy synthesised voices of the miis too! I'm hoping they're also hinting that you can be gay in the new game, it' 2025 time to drop the prejudice

Re: UK Charts: A Strong Xenoblade Debut Can't Escape Assassin's Creed's Shadow

@LeJuiceCup
I don't mean to drag the argument on. But having now played a good 20 hours of Shadows, it's beyond obvious that Japanese culture is the focus.
Other than 20 minutes at the beginning I have yet to be given the opportunity to play as Yasuke, and the focus of the story has been on Noae and the Iga Clan.

I think all this goes to show that there are individuals online stoking divisions with no basis in truth or fact, I'd urge you not to listen to them.

Re: Simon Pegg Is Heading Back To School As Hogwarts Legacy's Headmaster

Untempered-Link

Every time I still see NintendoLife covering this game it saddens me. I shall not be buying this game as the profits of it go towards supporting one of the most vocal transphobes on the internet, who uses her platform to directly lobby for policies which cause harm towards trans folks.
It's disappointing to see a site that has, in the past, championed LGBT issues to promote this game as it does.
Also surprises me that Simon Pegg would want to put his name to this.

Re: Review: FIFA 22 - Another Match Abandoned

Another year another highly entertaining Fifa Switch review, thank you so much, Chris! The line about Tiny Tim had me in complete hysterics. Is this review more entertaining than Fifa 22? Who can say but it has certainly brightened my day.

Re: Soapbox: Life Is Strange On Nintendo Switch Signals Better LGBTQ+ Rep To Come

Untempered-Link

@BloodNinja there's almost too many games with the revenge trope to list, and almost all of them (like almost all AAA games) feature white cis man protagonists, every other CoD game, Red Dead Redemption 1/2, GTA, Just Cause, Shadow of Mordor, Watch_Dogs and Ghost of Tsushima just to name a few.
Whilst it's true that in the last few years more game studios have attempted to break away from the trope, it is still utterly overused and I think more diverse stories like some of your 'suggestions' would be far more interesting to explore than many we see at the moment.

Re: Soapbox: Life Is Strange On Nintendo Switch Signals Better LGBTQ+ Rep To Come

Untempered-Link

@Ryan_Again why should my sexuality and gender have to stay 'private'?, why is talking about it or making stories about it not 'classy'?
Just because others (mostly straight, cis people) are insecure and throw a tantrum when stories about me and mine are shown does not mean they have no merit.
In fact I'd even argue that in a world which still has so few queer stories on screen, the loudest and most 'obnoxious' queer characters have the most merit. To show people that there is no shame in being unapologetically yourself.

Re: Soapbox: Life Is Strange On Nintendo Switch Signals Better LGBTQ+ Rep To Come

Untempered-Link

Thank you so much for this article! As a queer person, I know just how much representation has meant to me personally in media!
I think for many straight cis people it can be hard to understand how marginalising it can feel when so few characters on screen represent you. But games like Life is Strange not only help to normalise queerness on screens but also tell valuable stories whilst doing so.
I do think that progress is happening (albeit slowly), games like Overwatch and Apex have diverse casts with several queer characters, and only the other day Rainbow Six Siege announced a new trans character!
I'm so happy for younger queer players who will get to grow up seeing characters like themselves on the screen.
