Great price, especially with Christmas around the corner, but is this NoA trying to sell through the MarioKart Bundle?
Edit:
Selling MarioKart full price going forward would certainly make up the shortfall from this sale.
What a hefty soundtrack! Perhaps I'm revealing myself but I've never played a Mario Party game so this will be my first experience with it's music. Can't wait to get stuck in during the drive to work. And on that note, I will continue my call for Nintendo to update the app with Android Auto integration.
Sadly I rarely check the Nintendo Today app anymore, it was fun in the run up to the Switch 2 launch, but it really doesn't have anything that keeps me coming back. Maybe these updates might change that...
From all my years as a Nintendo fan I've learnt to never take anything for granted. The stars may align in the future and a new or existing IP may be thrust into public consciousness like never before. Did anyone expect Animal Crossing to be such a big success pre-pandemic? Not really, but almost overnight it became the Switch's number 2 best-selling software. I could see something similar happening in the future (although hopefully without quite the same impact as COVID!)
Hitman: Absolution is a real guilty pleasure. I know it's infamously the worst Hitman game, but it was my first, and I fell completely in love with the franchise. Also who doesn't love Nuns in BDSM gear?
For me the moment I realised Nintendo had turned the corner with 3rd party support was recently with the announcement of AC: Shadows for Switch 2. Having old AC remasters on Switch was one thing, but having this years brand new massive just blows my mind. I have no idea how a Switch 2 runs that game without instantly melting. Hats off to the Devs at Unisoft and to Nintendo for designing a console so small that can pull off miracles!
Nintendo Music continues to delight. Genuinely the drip feed approach, whilst disappointing at first, seems to pay off. It gets me coming back week after week to listen to new tracks. 10/10
This is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping the Switch 2 would see. Frame rate enhancements to ports that were held back on Switch 1. I remember when I first got my PS5, my most played game for most of that winter was Fortnite. Just because of how a silky smooth frame rate can improve an already captivating gameplay experience. There are loads of games (especially 'live-services) on Switch that are great fun, but could be boosted with patches, hopefully the next year or so we see publisher's roll them out as Switch players make the jump to Switch 2
I've just realised, with this along with 3D All Stars (for those who have access to it 🥲) along with the new Galaxy remasters, the Switch and Switch 2 have the greatest line up of 3D platformers of any console ever. Never been a better time to be a fan of the genre.
I was a bit disappointed when I saw the weekly notification pop up from Nintendo Music and saw it was this title. Having never played Princess Peach: Showtime, I had convinced myself it was a low-effort cashgrab aimed at young children. However having listened to the soundtrack that is anything but the case. There are some verified bops on there. Nintendo Music continues to give me weekly joy with it's new releases. Long may it continue!
I always found it surprising that despite having such strong digital sales in markets where an eShop is available, that it isn't available globally. The Switch was so successful, I genuinely think the only way to boost sales is to make sure marketing and sales are pushed at a regional level. To this end, this move makes perfect sense.
I have to say that Nintendo has been adding banger after banger to Nintendo Music lately.
Captain Toad, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Galaxy 2 and now this. Along with the 'special releases' of DK Bananza and Kirby Air Riders they're pulling me back into the app multiple times a week - something I never expected when it first launched!
Like many other commentators here have pointed out, I think it all depends on sales. If the Switch 2 continues to sell well, and ports on it also sell well, then publishers will keep putting the effort in to put their games on the system. As for the Resident Evil series, it doesn't strike me as the sort that would naturally attract Nintendo fans, but I would happily be proven wrong
Offshore call centres are a miserable experience. I still remember the Wii U launch where my console wouldn't connect to the internet. I was constantly bounced between Nintendo and Virgin call centres and the offshore call handler whilst speaking English didn't even know what a games console was. Took me 9 hours to solve the issue.
@somnambulance Exactly this. I dont understand the brainrot that has taken over people since the Switch 2 was announced. It seems that all the comments underneath any news story now is people complaining. Between prices and game key cards, I wish I could mute half the fan base!
Am I the only one who thinks £34 each for two of the best platformers ever is a steal? I really don't get the complaints about the price. Like no duh Nintendo will charge full price of their big Q3 game.
Absolute banger, I've wanted this added to Nintendo Music for a while.
Between this and Pilotwings Resort, someone at Nintendo HQ seems to be reading my mind.
Now all I need is DK: Tropical Freeze
Edit: Also whilst I'm making demands, I'd love to see Android auto integration for the app
I played Pokémon Go religiously for years and didn't hit the 40 level cap at the time. I don't want to know how much time you have to dedicate to it to hit 80 🙈
@Coalescence Exactly this. You ask people who aren't hardcore fans, and Nintendo is doing what people want, plenty of games, especially well loved titles releasing regularly. A high quality bar for most releases, and a focus on fun gameplay. It's only people like us who are too far down the rabbit hole that you hear screaming about game-key cards
I'm really disappointed in the absolute tantrum that some people are having in reaction to this. All it does is stop developers being more candid in future interviews.
Personally I think the reporting on this has left out a few key details, namely about the framedrops themselves. If it's fairly infrequent and it means that we can get the gameplay mechanics that they've shown off then I don't really mind at all.
I think what a lot of these comments don't understand is that this isn't a move by the FBI (and the eventual civil case by Nintendo) to target people who download pirated games, but to target the people who operate sites that host them. And honestly I can't really say I blame them, regardless of the whole "a pirated game isn't a lost sale" argument, they are still allowing people to freely access software that they would otherwise have to pay to enjoy. I can understand why Nintendo and law enforcement would want to act on this.
@Moroboshi876 it's not all that surprising, Mario Kart World trending gets people wanting to play a Mario Kart game, many people already have a Switch and won't want the stump up the extra £400 for the Switch 2
What a truly tremendous second week for Nintendo. Couldn't really ask for much better. For my shame I still haven't touched Mario Kart since launch day as Zelda TotK has been given a second life on Switch 2. I'm hooked!
@nessisonett spot on with the comment about Kate leaving. Quite why anyone at NL thought it would be okay to have an open comment section on this topic I don't know. Clearly no lessons learned from the countless other times that this exact same thing has happened on the site. Really disheartening as a LGBT+ reader.
I assume the extra physical price is due to those extra speedy SD cards and loads times. Imo it's the price of progress. I'll probably end up buying fewer games overall (just like I've found on PS5), but when I factor in inflation, it's understandable and not a deal-breaker
Okay this is super impressive. Without watching the video I'm assuming it's being streamed. I'm sure the 3DS would melt if anyone attempted to play it natively.
Oh boy, I adored Tomodatchi Life of 3DS. Having a hotel full of celebrities, fictional characters and family members was a lot of fun! I love the creepy synthesised voices of the miis too! I'm hoping they're also hinting that you can be gay in the new game, it' 2025 time to drop the prejudice
@LeJuiceCup
I don't mean to drag the argument on. But having now played a good 20 hours of Shadows, it's beyond obvious that Japanese culture is the focus.
Other than 20 minutes at the beginning I have yet to be given the opportunity to play as Yasuke, and the focus of the story has been on Noae and the Iga Clan.
I think all this goes to show that there are individuals online stoking divisions with no basis in truth or fact, I'd urge you not to listen to them.
Very happy that Xenoblade placed so highly, it's a great game that I put many hour in on WiiU. Personally I picked up AC:Shadows on release day and it's fantastic so far, not really sure where all the hate comes from.
