Last month, Microsoft president Brad Smith mentioned how the tech giant wanted to bring the Call of Duty series to the Nintendo Switch not long after it announced its plans to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion.
With this in mind, there's now a rumour that Activision "supposedly" has plans to bring Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered to Nintendo's hybrid system. This would reportedly be the same remaster launched on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016 (which was based on the original 2007 release Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare).
This information comes from the Call of Duty leaker 'RalphsValve'. Here's exactly what they had to say:
"Activision are reportedly considering releasing Remastered Call of Duty titles repurposed for newer consoles to fill out the empty space between Premium Call of Duty titles... World at War, Call of Duty 1 & 2 - backwards combatability for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered are currently what’s in conversation. Everything else was described by an associate as complicated...
"Addressing the confusion, MWR is supposedly coming to Nintendo Switch, its first introductory into the Call of Duty franchise for the console."
When Microsoft originally revealed it would be acquiring Activision Blizzard, not only did it clarify Call of Duty games would continue to be available on existing platforms, like Sony's PlayStation, but it also mentioned how it wanted to expand the series' availability.
Here's what Brad Smith said at the time:
"We’d like to bring it [Call of Duty] to Nintendo devices. We’d like to bring the other popular titles that Activision has, and ensure that they continue to be available on PlayStation, [and] that they become available on Nintendo."
Call of Duty's last appearance on a Nintendo console was during the Wii U generation, with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops II in 2012 and Call of Duty: Ghosts in 2013.
Releasing a COD game on Switch could potentially be a huge money maker for Activision, considering Nintendo's hybrid device has now sold more than 103 million units worldwide as of December 31st, 2021.
If we hear any developments, we'll let you know.

About damn time even if it's an old entry.
There's no reason why they never put the mobile version on Switch, it could have actually been profitable for them if they supported it accordingly.
I’d actually buy that. Old-school CoD with updated graphics would be sweet on the Switch, especially if they integrate gyro-aiming. I’m not the biggest CoD fan but I’d love to revisit an old classic I played back in the day with an updated online community!
Hell yes.. I'd buy it for sure!
@DeathByLasagna Same!
I am absolutely ready for some COD on the Switch. Prefer BO 1 + 2 but I'll take this no problemo
This would be the fist COD game on the switch right? So odd we haven't gotten won till now.
Remastered: Now with loads of new microtransactions.
‘All ghillied up’
Id rather take a remaster of Call of Duty 2, the last CoD game Id be prepared to spend money on...
@Jimmy_G_Buckets
That's exactly what I was going to say. Black Ops 1 has the best zombie mode in my opinion and would love to play that locally on Switch!
I'm down, but I hope it doesn't max out on the Switch "tax". $59.99 US for this game would be a most unfortunate price.
I would want it if I was buying Activision Blizzard games, but I refuse to buy games made by that company
Modern Warfare Reflex was actually good on Wii and sold 7 digits. It would be interesting to see if they translate that gameplay with the joy cons.
A black ops I remaster would be incredible. Otherwise I am not to interested.
Not a fan of CoD myself, but this would certainly be good news. Pretty much every major franchise that isn't console-exclusive is already on Switch in some capacity (for better or worse), from Fortnite to Overwatch to Portal to GTA. The absence of CoD always stuck out like a sore thumb.
It's interesting to see how attitudes have changed over time. I've been visiting Nintendo Life since probably like 2013 or 2014 (didn't make an account until sometime later and didn't comment nearly as much as I do now till the past year or two.) Back then, when the Wii U was failing, everyone on here loved using phrases like "Xbone" and "Sony Ponies" and saying they only had games like Call of Duty that were the same "rehashes" every year. Nintendo fans hated their shooters with monochrome color palettes. Wonder how many of those fanboys are still here on this site, or if most of them have moved on or even forgotten how they used to act. Nowadays, it's all "Console wars are toxic and dumb!" It's an interesting paradigm shift.
And why not bring BLOPS 1 and 2 and Ghosts over. They wouldn't even need to be remasters. They ran at 720p 60fps on the WiiU. Maybe they could bump the resolution up to 900p or 1080p, but other than that straight ports would be fine. P.S. I know BLOPS 1 wasn't on WiiU but 2 was and they could easily port the PS360 version of 1 with said res bump.
Back when Call of Duty had decent single player campaigns. I'd be down to play this on Switch.
New old games.😜
Bring ‘em all. And while they’re at it get EA to remaster the PS2 era Medal of Honor games and re-release them!!
It still remains wild they haven't done something COD for the Switch. This would make sense. New old game or not I think it would do very well.
Got this game for $2 on Steam 5 years ago, love it better than the awful remake. I would be okay if they just port the PS3 version instead.
Cool but ultimately meaningless given how old Modern Warfare Remastered is and how it is no longer supported.
Warzone is the future of the franchise, so if Activision (and soon Microsoft) wants Call of Duty to have a fanbase on Switch, they need to find some way to port Warzone (whether it be the current console/PC version or the upcoming mobile version) to Switch.
It'll be the Wii version.
With a required download.
Unless it has Zombies, count me out. I love how they droppped 2 CoD's on one of Nintendo's biggest failures, but have completely ignored the now 100 million plus juggernaut that is the Switch for years now. Activision logic. 🤦♂️
MW3 even on Wii was great, I’d buy this
This better include all of the DLC they released for it. If so, I'm def interested. Say what you want about Activision as a company, but COD is still the king of FPS gameplay for the most part and lacking a game like this on the Switch is super glaring. Outside of Overwatch, there really isn't any other team-based military FPS game on this system so I'd be willing to play this. I played COD4, BO1 and MW3 on Wii and BO2 and Ghosts on Wii U. Had fun with all of them.
If it's a good port I'd get it. I've actually never played a CoD game
Modern warfare trilogy should easily be on Switch. I don’t even care for the multiplayer because this was back when the campaigns were good. I’ll clear Mile High Club on Veteran again
I would definitely buy it if this is true especially after the dumpster fire that is Vanguard.
@DiamondJim
Imagine Duck Hunt but now the ducks fire back with pinpoint accuracy and instead of a dog laughing at you have NPCs yelling out quotes stolen from 80’s action movies and Airplane.
How about a hd remaster of cod big red one one of the best ww2 games.
Never buying anything from this lot ever again. Modern Warfare is one COD game I really like but after what I heard earlier I want to stay as far away from this Company as possible from now on. This being said I do not have a problem with anyone who is interested in this or anything else coming out from here on out.
Hopefully physical and complete on cart.
it would be pretty cool to see this come out on the switch, seeing as it would be the first COD title on a nintendo platform in almost a decade. would certainly be fun to play MWR on something thats actually portable (other then a laptop)
and this seems like one of the easier modern COD games to port to the switch (might be wrong though)
that said though, i'll reserve my excitement until this gets officially announced (if it ever does)
@mereel Swap microtransactions to loot boxes and that's exactly what this is on the other consoles. Even resold the same DLC at a higher price.
Played this a lot on the PS4 and would double dip on the Switch. Had loads of fun with my friends on the OG back in the day on PC too. To me this is the best COD along with BO2.
Day one for me if it happens 👍
@Aurumonado The Wii version was fantastic, superb reflex control, realistic graphics for a CRT game, light gun support, fun multiplayer, and no lags. Play it through Dolphin for the ultimate experience, you get all that plus better graphics and smoother framerates.
This is the same site and same random users that flipped out when Microsoft bought them and said that the CEO was trash and would never buy another game from them. Now...you are excited. 🤣
@Rika_Yoshitake couldn’t be said better. It’s criminal not a single entry is on switch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Remastered: Reflex Edition
It's insulting to see how it took until Microsoft acquiring Activision to MAYBE get a real chance of a Call of Duty game on the Switch. I've been waiting ever since Black Ops 4... dear god, my distaste has already set in.
I already gave into playing CoD games on my PC. Seriously, I highly despised the business decisions made by old Activision.
The fact that COD has continuously skipped Switch is and was always ludicrously stupid.
@mereel crap they did that they should've just left the multiplayer how it was with just a visual upgrade I'm hoping they add the multiplayer to mw2 remastered but keep that exactly how it was
I'll buy it instantly.
❗️This would be a Day One Physical Buy for me and would even replace 'Fortnite'...
An MCC style collection of the 360 era titles would be a better project.
The COD MP community is so scattered because of the yearly MP releases. Consolidating the legacy ones all under one title would be great.
Even better, they could release it on Xbox, PS and PC too, and even release games to it piecemeal as they did the steam release of MCC.
It's been a long time since I played a COD game that I enjoyed and I doubt I'll ever play another, remaster or otherwise. I mean for a series that's been done to death, the last thing it needs is remasters and rereleases, though for Switch I can understand the appeal for some given its portable nature
I burned out hard on FPS games from 2006 or so all the way until Doom 2016, I don't think old CoD will grip me. I prefer the boomer shooter kind of thing now, like Ion Fury, Dusk, etc. Even Doom Eternal was kind of just boomer shooter-y enough to be interesting. I bought Wolf 2 on Switch as a curio and was utterly bored after 4 levels.
@RiasGremory big red one and finest hour were the games that got me into CoD.
One step closer to getting BO and BO2 on Switch!
I'd welcome this if it's true. The Switch has a really poor selection of FPS games.
Are FPS games better on more powerful systems with stronger online? Absolutely. But there's clearly a market for the pick up and play portable, and COD have some of the best single player campaigns in the genre.
Thank you Microsoft for Buying Activision! Now we can finally play Call of Duty on Nintendo Switch!
One of the best COD games out there I play this frequently on Xbox series s would love to play handheld but I hope they don’t do a botch job
@DeathByLasagna Using Gyroaiming with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is Incredible if we can play Call of Duty 1 and 2 HD Remasters!!!
Hint Microsoft!
I honestly thought cod mobile would have been on the system by now.
Yeah you can keep you Call of Doody filler.
This is terrible news for me, I only buy COD for Zombies. I was excited when I heard COD was coming to switch, only to have it scuppered with this news. So without zombies it's a no go for me.
I remember this same " rumour" happening in 2018. I'll believe it when I see it.
If it’s a decent port. With a good campaign intact and a physical release at £30 - let’s talk.
I enjoyed MW 1 and 2 on XBox 360. The perk system was a cool idea.
Why would they expect us to support after years of throwing dirt in our faces?
This game is only one of three CoD games I have ever played. The others being CoD 3 and Black Ops (1st game). I bought MW3 but barely played it and traded it in or gave it away (can't remember).
I'd get this MW remaster if it had gyro. I doubt it will though.
Again Modern Warface, really...?? Isn't there any other CoD that can be brought to a Nintendo console? XD
@nocdaes Still has the best selection of FPS games that a Nintendo console has ever had xD
@Freek it’s what the Switch is about lol
If it’s got gyro aiming I’ll definitely give it a go.
Bout bloody time.
This will easily be the best fps on switch but I too would be sad about missing out on zombie mode.
Maybe black ops remaster is next. That’s the dream.
@TheStardustWarrior I don’t know if seventh refers to the Xbox one and ps4 generation where this was originally released on. But plenty of Xbox one and ps4 games do not translate well to the switch.
Yes a 360 ps3 port could work well but remastered makes me think of the Xbox one and ps4 aversion because this never was released on ps3 or 360
@Jimmy_G_Buckets BO 1 was perfect. The most fun I’d ever had with a COD game!
Seems long overdue. Thing is, the Switch is now very well catered for in terms of FPS games, especially for a Nintendo/portable system. It’s impact may be less than it would have been a couple of years ago. But still welcome and I’m sure it will sell well.
Maybe I'd check it out. I kinda got fatigued with the yearly releases and haven't played cod in a while.
Ya, this needs to happen.
I like my Call of Duty single player campaigns, and have been waiting for them to drop some on Switch.
Modern Warfare Remastered is a perfect candidate. It's like Assassin's Creed Ezio Collection- it just makes sense.
Just include gyro aiming, that's a must.
@RendoFonzarelli
If you like the Zombies mode from Black Ops games, then you should look into Zombie Army 4, which releases April 26th on Switch with gyro aiming. And Rebellion makes the highest quality Switch ports.
Surprised CoD hasn’t debuted in some form on Switch already, a port or collection at the very least. Then again Activision have always been weird with CoD on Nintendo; it was an absolute effort trying to determine whether certain games were happening on Wii or Wii U at all and even when you knew they were coming there wouldn’t be footage or impressions for most of them until the games were literally in people’s hands.
The real question is will it support local wireless play. Call of duty is a LAN party dream game on other systems but without local wireless play it would be a nightmare to support that LAN party on switch.
@Not_Soos I don’t get named called anymore but if I complain about graphics people question my Nintendo loyalty (despite havingg go every Nintendo since 1985) and then go tell me to play on Xbox or PlayStation. So there remains some toxicity but nothing as bad as before.
I'd buy this day one. That CoD is a fantastic game!
@bertraar2 I don’t hear many complaints about the pro controller around here. I actually love it. If it had the same triggers as my Xbox one controller it would be perfect.
I do agree that switch ports have a switch tax. That shouldn’t be a surprise anymore. As long as it comes with all the DLC I can live with it. Really what else are the switch fps options. Sniper elite is not first person shooter.
@electrolite77 I just consulted the nintendolife list of first person shooters found here.
https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/best-nintendo-switch-fps-games
So many of these games are one player experiences. I do love call of jurez.
Call of duty modern warfare offers multiplayer which is what the system is lacking. Unless I’m missing something.
@TheStardustWarrior in general I think of multiplayer when I think of fps so I don’t give many single player fps a chance.
@bertraar2 I know people love black ops 2. Somehow I never made the jump after black ops. That was my game. Sooo much fun of watching and listening to people rage quit. I know some people hate voice chat (just mute) but I made so many virtual friends over black ops.
I would like to say I hope we get MW2's multiplayer maps. Some of those were just incredible.
You know, I keep forgetting that Microsoft bought Activision...
@sixrings
Yeah good point. The multiplayer could be very popular. I’m not really into competitive FPS (aside from a casual bit of Halo here and there) so didn’t think of that. Even those that have it like Doom 2016 aren’t really known for that side of it.
@chiefeagle02 please bring over the master chief collection
Let's see - $60 Cod MW + $60 Cod MW2 + $60 Cod MW3 + $60 Cod Advanced Warfare + $60 Cod Black Ops + $60 Cod BO2 + $60 Cod BO3 + $60 Cod BO4 = $480.... About the same price of a steam deck with a 512gb SD card. Not counting the 2 - 4 years it'll take to port those games. No thanks
@Red9 wow the hate is real.
Either way old call of duty games are absurdly expensive on my Xbox. So unless you’re suggesting pirating them then I am confused what the fuss is about.
I guess by the time the port comes these games could be on gamepass but that’s a different discussion.
@JaxonH Yeah, already got that one in my sights, I enjoyed ZA Trilogy, but my only complaint would be that it lacked variety in the gameplay. Used the same 2 weapons all the way through to the end, just got a little repetitive. Hoping ZA4 will have a little more variety.
@sixrings Just math, I have a switch but their pets are very expensive.
@RubyCarbuncle You do realize that once MS takes over it will be a different company.
I thought players didn’t need or wanted a CoD from Activision, especially after this public issue they had? Interesting change.
🙈
@Tasuki That's what I keep hearing but the same Employees will likely still be there. Whether things will change or not only time will tell. For now I'm just not interested in their games.
I would buy it, just to show some support.
@RubyCarbuncle It's only a rumour at the moment. I would more than likely be up for a Modern Warfare game, but yeah, I'm not getting carried away with it. I'm hoping the company has some sort of road to damascus moment before it's released...but I'm not holding my breath.
Hell yeah more Call of duty on switch
@Jetix I do... surely with 100+ million switches out there I can't be alone
@Jetix well im sure there are people like me who own an xbox too.. we still buy switch games...
@the_beaver Fair point! Haha
I would take MW for Switch. But tbh if it's not a 100% physical release, I am not gonna buy it.
@Sasuke94 it would have to be no bigger than 40 gigs... I just couldn't fit it personally any other way and I have a 256gig sd card
Hell of a time to be announcing a modern era wargame.
@JasmineDragon games can make you feel empowered to take on invading countries. And based on Mark Whalberg, being an action star can make you feel empowered to take on terrorists.
Switch can probably handle 2019 Modern Warfare at 30 fps if the programmers put some efforts and resources, thats not good for Multiplayer though. The remaster now its better than nothing, better than PS VIta COD for sure
I would be cool with this, I had more fun playing Modern Warfare Remastered then all the other Call of Duty games released in the past decade.
@dimi I think 900p 60fps is preferable
@JR150 There's the very Overwatch like Paladins and the very COD like Warface. Both are free to play so may as well give them a try if you haven't yet. Oh yeah, there's also Apex Legends which is also free to play.
Better we get this game than COD Mobile.
@CaptainCluck I thought mobile was reviewed well with some of the series best maps.
Multiplayer as close to 1080p 60fps is my own preference.
I'd only be interested in the campaign, so I was kind of hoping for a CoD MW Trilogy pack. I'd pay full price for that but not for just the 1st game alone.
I only hope that with Microsoft's acquisition, they'd be more willing to do deep sales years later. The digital price of CoD games barely drops below £30.
@FX102A I hope for the sales as well. I hope for your case you get the single player. But for the switches sake which doesn’t have much multiplayer I hope we get that component as well.
Removed - unconstructive feedback; user is banned
@MostHandsieBoy well I will buy four copies if it’s released. I don’t like bobby. Im happy he’s on his way out. I also understand rightfully or wrongfully if he doesn’t go to jail he’s still leaving with a whole bunch of money. Nothing any of us do at this point will make any difference. But you can blame me if you want if Bobby’s a few bucks richer. He’s already richer than every single person in this thread combined. It sucks but that’s life.
@sixrings we all make choices.
I stopped recycling recently because F it. Nothing I can do can stop the apocalypse. Less work for me.
I'm looking for more ways to have more fun and do less for others. Options are everywhere.
@MostHandsieBoy hey as a Prius owner I appreciate your effort to save our planet. I guess I figure this bobby thing is done. Microsoft has bought them. It’s over. At this point all anyone is doing is not buying it out of historic spite. The message was sent to the board and they sold. It’s done. At least that’s my take. If this was six months ago I would understand your argument a lot more. Instead today it comes off as judgy. But thanks for recycling. That can make a difference.
@vio
Paladins has crashing issues.
I have Apex Legends, but this is a BR game.
I do have Overwatch but like Paladins, it's a hero shooter.
I've heard Warface is rather low-quality.
I'm looking for a more grounded, high-quality, team-based TDM style shooter which is something that only COD can satisfy.
Better have a lightgun options.
It’s crazy to me that the Wii and DS each got their own distinct versions of most CoDs from that era. Meanwhile this will be the first version for Switch, a system designed with down-scalability in mind much more so than Wii or DS. Also it’s only one console as opposed to two. What gives?
WOW...need the gyro-aimimg, like Plants vs Zombies I love!
I hope it's a cloud version.
@YANDMAN Activision already sucks enough, but doing that will be the final nail in the coffin.
@Savage_Joe Definitely, the customisation was also quite good with dead zone options etc.
@Z-Core OBVIOUSLY A JOKE.
