Re: Here's What The Developer Of Elite Beat Agents Did Next

Thierry

Eh? Looks pretty cool, however I doubt this will be successful. Games on tablets and mobile phones are all about short bursts of instant play, and digital purchasing of course. I can't see many people going out of their way to visit a physical store to buy real-life toys to supplement their throwaway mobile game (not saying this is a throwaway game, just that the general public sees mobile games as such - quick, cheap entertainment to pass a few spare minutes).

Also... I've played EBA endlessly, but I don't see any resemblance to this new game or its figures. Am I missing something...?

Re: Rumour: Someone Tried To Steal The Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Demo, And Failed

Thierry

Lol, obviously fake. Apart from the strict time limit which only allowed players very specific periods of time with the demo before the next people in line took their turns, the whole thing was being very closely monitored and guided by Nintendo reps. There's absolutely zero chance any 'hacker' would be able to hook anything up to the consoles in question, let alone access menus, change settings or whatever.

This is so fake it's not even funny.

Re: Hands On: Embracing Freedom in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Thierry

It all looked gorgeously fun. The one thing I hated was the terrible lack of music. :/ While I can appreciate ambient sounds, during the videos I've seen it really struck me how much I missed the music.

Especially considering music had always been one of the strongest points of all Zelda games, and how big a role it has always played...

After ALBW's marvelous soundtrack I had such grandiose expectations and hopes. T_T

Re: For What It's Worth, Watch Dogs 2 Launches This November

Thierry

To be fair, Ubisoft are also the guys who had the then-very-hotly-anticipated Rayman Legends finished and ready to ship for Wii U, then delayed it for months and months to port it to Playstation and Xbox and release it simultaneously.

Then they proceeded to release games on Playstation/Xbox while the Wii U got the same games months and months later.

So logical.

Re: Two 'Extended' E3 Demos Expected for The Legend of Zelda on Wii U

Thierry

Wow that's long. How's that going to work during an event with literally thousands of people...? Are you going to have to wait in line for 2 days to play once? XD

Anyway, I'm excited! Any word on whether they'll release some trailers in addition to the demos? Surely yes?

Um, and it would be the most surprising thing of the year to me if Nintendo released an eShop demo... XD

Re: It Wasn't Nintendo's Idea To Mix Minecraft And Super Mario Together

Thierry

Saw some videos of the pack on YouTube, it looks very cool, and much, much more elaborate than I'd have expected.

Still, I've never played Minecraft and don't think I ever will. I just don't get the appeal, at all. It looks awkward and weird as heck to me, not fun at all. But I'm glad Nintendo finally got in on this, a NX version is now inevitable I think, and we'll probably be seeing other packs on it too, such as Zelda and possibly Metroid.

Re: Third Party Developers Share Their Hopes For Nintendo NX

Thierry

So basically, the thing everyone not only wants but -needs- from Nintendo is an overall industry-standard design, in terms of horsepower, system architecture, online features etc.

Unfortunately that's something Nintendo, in my opinion, will never provide. Ever. Doesn't matter how many developers and other people claim they need it, Nintendo firmly marches to the sound of its own drum.

Maybe they'll oblige on a few points, but if so, there are guaranteed to be other important aspects they'll simply ignore for no reason at all, or which they'll implement their own unoptimized workaround version of, causing development headaches for devs everywhere. :/

Re: Playtonic Raises the Curtain to Show Off A Lot of Yooka-Laylee Details

Thierry

Lovely, can't wait so find out and see more of the game!

Although I am somewhat getting the impression that they're going a bit overboard with the Banjo-Kazooie tributes... It sounds like almost a carbon copy of everything that made Banjo-Kazooie, well... Banjo-Kazooie, only with new characters.

From the animal duo themselves and their moves to the transformations, the jiggies being replaced by pagies... It all just feels a bit too blatantly overdone, and and I just really really hope they put enough effort into making this its own thing, instead of 'that Banjo-Kazooie-like game by the Banjo-Kazooie creators' just to please fans of the old games.

Heck, even that pic at the top of the characters underwater, reaching for that pagy (pagie?) is a carbon copy of a piece of B-K artwork. :/ (sorry dunno how to embed a pic here)

That aside, it looks excellent so far!

Re: Meet The Edgy And Mature Fan-Made Pokémon Game That Aims To "Fix" The Series

Thierry

Nintendolife, why are you promoting, and linking to, an illegal game..? :/

While I understand and can appreciate the point the devs of this are trying to make, I cannot understand why they couldn't just do it with an original game of their own.

Actually, I can... Because that'd be actual honest effort, and it's easier to take advantage of (hugely popular) stuff that already exists. :/

Re: Anniversary: New Super Mario Bros. is Now a Decade Old

Thierry

I've never come close to completing any of the New SMB games... I got the first one for DS back in the day, but I never cared about it, though I really tried to like it.

Skipped all the others, except for U, which I got for free in that free game promotion Nintendo had going on a few years ago. Never played anything beyond the 1st level in that one though. Oh, and I played quite a bit of the Wii one at a friend's place.

They're just incredibly bland and generic to me, from the visuals to the music and just the general vibe. Doesn't help that all the 'New' games are basically the same, apart from output resolution. :/

Re: Feature: Five Nintendo Franchises We'd Love to See As Movies

Thierry

I'm thinking Splatoon to be a very likely candidate for a first movie. Especially considering the plethora of merchandise and attention it's been getting lately, and the fact that it just lends itself very well to a CGI interpretation. The game basically already looks kind of like a Pixar/DreamWorks animated film.

Re: Rumour: Sources Go to Battle Again Over Nintendo NX Power

Thierry

We won't know until Nintendo themselves unveil NX - and maybe not even then... I wouldn't be surprised if they never officially announced any specs.

Then again, underpowered hardware and custom-made chips and such are exactly what made Wii U such a bother to develop for, for 3rd parties. :/

Re: Video: CoroCoro Releases Its Own Pokémon Sun and Moon Trailer

Thierry

@SanderEvers Just because it hasn't happened before, doesn't mean it won't happen now - at all.
Besides, Diamond & Pearl are next in line, there's no way a new ground-up mainline Pokémon game for NX is going to come out anytime soon after Sun & Moon are released - development of these games takes a long time, especially the more powerful the system they're on.

And they won't go years without releases, so D/P remakes make a lot of sense.

Re: Talking Point: The Crowded Toys To Life Market Cut Its Weakest Link in Disney Infinity, Yet amiibo Should Be Safe

Thierry

Skylanders sales have been down last year compared to before, right? This year probably isn't going to be being better for them, really. I can see them quitting after 2017, maybe even as early as after this year, if sales are sufficiently lacking.

amiibo should be fine, I guess, at least for a while. Although I've seen them discounted to 6-7 Euros here in a LOT of places, where they were around 16 Euros before. That can't be a good sign...
