Re: Editorial: Pricing Blunders Have Distorted The Narrative Around Nintendo Switch

Thierry

It's just stupid that the Switch is 299 Dollars in the US, yet here in Europe I'm supposed to pay 329 Euros, which amounts to about 350 US Dollars. :/ Also, stock is sold out everywhere, and even though I've pre-ordered it in several stores, none can give a definitive assurance that they'll be able to deliver come launch day.

They'd better get a mainline Pokémon game out ASAP, whether it be Stars, a remake of older titles like Diamond/Pearl, or an entirely new endeavor, just get it out there. They must have a ton of 1st party games coming out anyway, they haven't been working on 3DS/Wii U titles at all for a long time (save for Zelda)... I just have no clue why they won't just announce as much as possible, even if they're a ways off yet - this is no time to hold back.

Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details

Thierry

I just don't understand where the games are. What have Nintendo's numerous and very large software teams been working in for the past few years? No Wii U or 3DS games, and besides Zelda the only noteworthy 1st party release is MK8 Deluxe, which is a port and wouldn't have required much effort/investment. Things like 1, 2 Switch and Snipperclips or whatever it's called can't have been resource-heavy to develop, and the next major game were getting will be Splatoon 2, which, again, can't have required massive investments of resources because it's basically an upgraded port of the original with new content added.

Also, whatever happened to the literally dozens of confirmed 3rd party devs? Did they not do anything? I'm extremely disappointed, even though Zelda seems like it will be the best game ever.

Re: Guide: A Breakdown of Confirmed Nintendo Switch Games and Release Dates

Thierry

Skyrim is an autumn game? Wow I figured that was a launch title. No one will care anymore by then. :/ Seems like a perfect setup for a convenient excuse not to support Nintendo anymore after that title bombs.

What the heck have all those hundreds of Nintendo devs been working on for all these years? It sure wasn't Wii U or 3DS games, so I figured they must've been hard at work on dozens of AAA Switch titles. What the heck, like seriously. :/

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be Easier To Find Than The NES Classic At Launch, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

Thierry

2017 will be to 3DS what 2016 was to Wii U. By year's end, it will be dead. And a good thing too, because Nintendo cannot support 2 separate platforms, however much they say they can or wish to.

But obviously for PR reasons, they can't just say they'll stop supporting 3DS. It's just a nice little money maker that'll add additional funds to their coffers while Switch is gearing up to full speed.

Re: Best Buy Rumour Reinforces Talk of $250 Nintendo Switch Price

Thierry

Sounds too good to be true. If this ends up being real (which I very much doubt), then I can't see them including a game as well.

But I'd expect a 299 dollars/euros price point for a standard Switch unit, and maybe a 349/399 premium bundle with increased storage, a pack-in game and maybe one or several accessories.

A 250 dollars/euros price point would leave little to no wiggle room for Nintendo in case the market reacts poorly (like what happened with the 3DS launch, where it was an initial succes, but sales dropped off a cliff soon and Nintendo were forced to cut the price as well as introduce the ambassador program).

Re: Rumour: More Reported Details on Ubisoft's Big Plans for the Nintendo Switch

Thierry

If that Beyond Good & Evil rumour turns out to be true, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they delayed the Switch version so it can 'be released simultaneously on all platforms', and then delay it some more to release 6 months after the PS4/XOne versions.

Also, if they're doing a Rabbids/Mario crossover, why in the name of all that is good and holy wouldn't you use the Mario name in the title...? That's beyond insanity.

Re: More Legend of Zelda Merchandise Added to Nintendo UK Store

Thierry

Nice to see, but all of those have been available pretty much everywhere for ages... I know 'cos I have a ton of them. So weird that an official Nintendo store would only now be getting those products.

Still, it's amazing they're putting out so much quality Zelda merch nowadays!

Re: Random: Shigeru Miyamoto's Samurai Mario Shirt Gets Excitable Speculation Up and Running

Thierry

Yeah what with the out-of-the-ordinary design of the shirt, Miyamoto specifically showing it off on Jimmy Fallon, coupled with Bill Trinen's comments, it's definitely bound to be something regarding the new Switch-bound Mario game. I mean, besides Run, that's the only major Mario game we know of (even though it's very little), and I doubt Nintendo would release a bunch of different Mario games together, nor spread out interest in them. It's all Mario Run right now, but early next year should be all about Mario Switch.

Re: Feature: Xenoblade Chronicles X - One Year Later

Thierry

It's definitely my favourite game for the past decade or so. Probably my most-played ever, too... Maybe I've played Smash Melee more, but I can't be sure. It's just a gloriously epic, beautiful and totally engrossing game. Monolith created a truly living and breathing world. Astounding, and I can't recommend it enough.

Re: A Monster Hunter Movie Series is On the Cards

Thierry

A really relatable American character, and a movie plot that has nothing to do with the games, and the US as a major location.

Yes this definitely sounds like something as far removed from the games as possible, and something Japanese and Chinese people won't care about, at all.

Also, 50 million dollars may sound like a fortune, but for an epic fantasy film it's chump change.

This won't end well. :/

Re: Nintendo Switch Has "Probably The Best Demo I've Ever Seen" Says Bethesda's Todd Howard

Thierry

Bethesda working on Nintendo hardware is huge, and Skyrim on Switch would be an equally huge thing, regardless of some people's opinions. They and this game really matter, moreso because of the image it paints to consumers - that Nintendo gets big mature games.

Having them on their side is a tremendous boon for Nintendo, which makes me wonder... What if Nintendo purposefully delayed Zelda so as not to compete with Skyrim at launch? Think about it. If Zelda launched alongside Skyrim on Switch, you can bet Zelda would massively hurt Skyrim's sales, in turn putting Bethesda and likely other publishers and devs off from supporting Switch, because Skyrim, being the giant epic big-budget 3rd party game it is, failed to sell.

Delaying Zelda and giving Skyrim a chance to shine and sell without direct competition from a similar open-world fantasy game would make a lot of sense, both in the short and long term for Nintendo, as it would encourage Bethesda and others.
