Update:
Nintendo has now shared the same image on its Facebook page.
Original Article:
We'll be seeing a lot of The Legend of Zelda during E3, with the Wii U version of the dual release - it's also coming to NX - a key focus of Nintendo's live broadcasts.
We don't have long to wait, but in any case Amazon's product page for the Wii U version includes a previously unreleased promotional image. Intriguingly it shows Link climbing with the broader landscape in the background - does this mean that climbing and vertical traversal will be a notable part of the new game?
It looks gorgeous in any case, and it won't be long before we see the game in action; we'll be streaming and live blogging Nintendo's coverage from 9am Pacific / noon Eastern / 5pm UK / 6pm CET on 14th June.

ZELDA HYYPEEE AAAAHHHHHHH
That picture looks so cool!!!! I can't wait!!!!
Ah very nice artwork
Looks so epic can't wait for the 14
Cue Setsuna's sarcastic "Woooow".
New desktop wallpaper.
Chaps, it'd be really really nice if, in the future, you could avoid posting ANYTHING leaked as a thumbnail. Leak culture has heavily damaged the sense of wonder and surprise that E3 has previously expired, and while this is a relatively benign example (two days), I'd still liked to have found it out through its natural source. Title of "New Zelda Picture Leaked" and a past screenshot, and you'd still have had thousands of hits because it's bloomin' Zelda without slightly spoiling stuff for people such as myself.
Zelda still looking grand, hope that Nintendo can pull it out of the bag and make me excited for things to come. I could do with a bit of a Nintendo pick-me-up at the moment.
Probably the only thing Nintendo is gonna show us.(fingers crossedđź––)
Looks gorgeous and gives a real sense of scale. Just a guess but I think that art is viewed somewhere around from where I marked the red dot and looking north.
Church looking building on the left, the castle beyond and the rivers and mountains on the right.
Oh man, is that ever gorgeous! So stoked for Tuesday! I'm turning on the stream right when I get home from work, so I should only miss about an hour or two of it.
Cool, you can see some buildings at last!
Given how continuous Nintendo makes their artwork with the actual game, I assume that's an image of what the actual game world will be like.
Great colors and sense of space! I hope climbing is part of the gameplay indeed and it's done in an enjoyable and seamless fashion.
Insert Link climbing Ubisoft radio towers joke here.
Such a shame we have to wait for this masterpiece for next year.
@Balladeer For the next week if you don't want something spoiled, you may just want to disable the internet for yourself. The hype train has now left the station and will not stop until the game is released. We will be soon peppered with articles discussing the how the color of Link's toothbrush in a screenshot will place where in the timeline this game takes place.
Perrdy.
Why does release date say December 30th 2016?
PLEASE, don't desaturate the colors on this one like you did with Skyward Sword, Nintendo.
The Legend of Zelda: Uncharted
@cfgk24 It's a placeholder from when the game was due 2016. It is common for retailers to list the release date as the latest in a game's release window.
All aboard.
2017 I'm ready for you!
Climbing tall cliffs could tie in with the "open landscape" they've been talking about, assuming the sailcloth is included.
I can imagine you spend an hour trying to find a way up that mountain, and what's up there when you get there? One red rupee.
@gcunit I'd laugh, but then I'd just take a look at the astounding viewpoint from the top of that cliff, and say. "...Worth it."
@Royalblues Never understood the want for voice acting in a Zelda game, or any game really... What would it really add?
I'm all for a more creative, involved storyline, though.
Hope a lot for this game.
@Royalblues Voice acting is good, as long as it is done well and Link doesn't speak.
Awesome. That would definitely fit in with the "go anywhere on the map" claims Nintendo previously made about the game.
@-crump Well for starters it would prevent a lot of squinteyetis.
Looks beautiful!
@Balladeer What would count in your mind as "the natural source" for this type of information? This is a Nintendo-focused news site, reporting on Nintendo-related information. Also, is a picture of Link climbing up a cliff really a spoiler to you? Because if it is, then your spoiler-radar is way too sensitive, and like someone else already said, you should probably just avoid sites like this one.
@Royalblues Yes, gamers "ignore Nintendo" because Link doesn't talk. Because everything is just that black and white.
e3 is a gigantic spoilerific convention
this website is a news source with the sole purpose of removing a person's ignorance about the world
hypocrisy
Man, a climbing mechanic would be really fun. Especially when you consider how hilly some of the areas we've seen thus far are - it'd come in really handy.
Hopefully there's some way to climb faster in this game, like maybe the Hookshot. Climbing tends to be painfully slow in most games.
10am for any of us in Mountain Standard Time...
So freakin' pumped for this. Church = Temple of Time?? Castle = Ganon's castle? Any way you look at it...Picture = EPIC.
Looking good. Please don't let there be anything disappointing that detracts from this.
WOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Only a couple days!!!
Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!!
Hype Mode.... ENGAGED!!
Well they said you can access virtually any part of the map so I imagine that also means climbing. I somehow doubt it will be a 'notable' part of the game. Zelda has had some form of climbing in all of the 3D entries, however to adapt to the 'open-world' I imagine the mechanic will need to b significantly upgraded
Interesting, vertical movement would be indeed a must in a game based on free exploration of an open enviroment.
If the artwork is indeed an hint to a new mechanic then I can't wait to see it in action; climbing till now was always super slow and boring in Zelda, seeing it taking the center stage with a revamped and spiced up system would be great!
On a sidenote. Here's images of the E3 lanyard. It features images of Zelda U/NX on one side and older titles on the other side.
For me it would be cool if link was less dependent on itens in this game, like for example not needing especial gloves to climb mountains as the image above somewhat suggests. It would make for a nice change of convetions, as well as make the gameplay more fluid imho.
Twiddles thumbs
.........
Checks time/date on phone
....Nope, it's still Sunday.
Remembering climbing Death Mountain in OOT?
Guess they're really expanding on that...
this is getting exciting im soo hyped for this treehouse live pokemon and zelda here we go
@Royalblues Some do, some don't. Not sure if you know this, but not everyone plays or "pays attention to" every developer in existence. But considering that more than 70-million people have bought Nintendo's current-gen systems, with several times that amount in software sales for those systems, then that's one big sizeable "they" that most certainly doesn't "ignore" Nintendo.
I'm so friggin excited to see this game in action!! It looks like heaven!!
@Trinexx keep twiddling my friend :/

Uncharted + Zelda crossover confirmed
Naughty Dog x Nintendo
this new zelda looks more like its based on the original nes zelda
This promo art alone is better than EA's and Bethesdas conferences combined.
@gcunit
Your comment was funny until i remembered how much truth lies behind the joke. Nintendo unfortunately has lost all sense making things "worth it" to the player for exploring.
They actually do believe rupees are worth the exploration, in a game where you always have too many anyways. It's bizarre because they are so talented and intelligent in 90 percent of what they do, but then they make weird decisions like that and it baffles me.
Does nobody stand up and say "An optional item or two would be way cooler here"?
@gcunit And your wallet is full...
Climbing cliffs could be a great part of the gameplay. Taking the time and overcoming the challenge, to be surprised and or rewarded by what you find at the top.
This would be interesting if you couldn't do this in pretty much every previous Zelda game...
Link doesn't speak.
Final Fantasy heroes still talk and have their own mind. Would Metal Gear Solid be better if Snake was a silent protagonist? No? Then neither is Zelda.
Ah, such a lovely picture!
@BensonUii Looks like I have a new wallpaper
Looks awesome - cant wait to see the game in action -
Omg HYPE!
Can't wait!
Parkour Link.
Such great art. Now before I leave I like to say RIP to one of the most dedicated Legend of Zelda fan that had just passed away this year. Christina Grimmie, who was shot and killed by an arm gun man after performing live in Orlando, FL last Friday night. This is one of her many memorable work.
