No one does guide books quite like the Japanese. Years before such tomes became fashionable as pre-order bonuses here in the west, gamers in Japan were enjoying intricately detailed publications which covered elements such as level designs, walkthroughs and secrets.
However, some of these guides went the extra mile and contained gorgeous exclusive artwork and other visual elements - such as this vintage Super Mario 64 guide, unearthed by Twitter user Clay-zulah. As you can see, entire stages have been rendered in clay, a process which must have taken quite some time.
You can never have enough clay.

I'm already a sucker for dioramas to begin with. This is just awesome, though.
Oh wow! This looks amazing! Now I wish I could have dioramas like these...
I have to say that does look rather good. A fitting guide book for an awesome game.
They look awesome! This is actually making me want to go get my old Super Mario 64 DS cartridge and play it...
Oh man, that looks cool!
...wouldn't it be awesome if the NX has a Mario 64 remake that had a claymation look to it, as if you're playing with these clay made dioramas?
It reminds me of the first and final issue cover of Nintendo power magazine
Whoa! That's really cool.
Whomp's Fortress is one of my all time favourite videogame levels, that version looks spectacular!

I hope that these clay stages still exists and that somebody find them.

I want to touch all the pieces and squeeze the buildings to see what they're made out of
I remember when I was little I would use to draw Super Mario 64 levels all the time.
The next Mario maker better have 3D Mario games. lol
