Re: Rumour: Buddy Pokémon Could Be on the Way to Pokémon GO

Thierry

I never understood why they put in starter Pokémon in the first place, if there's no way to get them to evolve.

Well the power-up/evolution system in the game's rubbish anyway, what with the need to catch dozens to literally hundreds in some cases of the same Pokémon, then trade them in for candy and manually evolve them. :/

Re: Rumour: Detachable NX Controllers Will Offer Wii-Like Motion Control And Advanced Force Feedback

Thierry

Considering Nintendo stated on several occasions that NX would be a 'clean break' and move away from Wii, Wii U and all that they embodied, I very much doubt Wii remotes will be compatible with NX, even if it were just for 'certain games'.

Even moreso in light of Reggie's very recent comments about how they learned their lesson with Wii U about how not to convey a convoluted and confusing message about new systems.

Re: retroUSB's HDMI NES, the AVS, Goes Up for Pre-Order

Thierry

Widescreen? As in a stretched-out TV image? Also, 720p? What is this, 2005? The Mini NES Classic Edition or whatever it's called from Nintendo sounds much more appealing to me.

... And can they just simply rip off the original NES design like that? I'm pretty sure Nintendo will take action against this thing, one way or the other.

Re: Ubisoft Has "Surprises" Yet to be Announced for Nintendo NX

Thierry

@shani You're right, but you're not reading my comments right. Wii U wasn't a casual-friendly system, but it was INTENDED as such, very much (like I said).

Nintendo wanted it to be a Wii 2 that attracted the masses, only they failed to make it easy to understand and appealing.

Re: Ubisoft Has "Surprises" Yet to be Announced for Nintendo NX

Thierry

@shani Wii U was in fact a gimmicky console. And made to attract a casual audience. Its name says it all - it was meant to be a Wii 2. The whole tablet controller with motion sensing and NFC capabilities are gimmicky. Only it didn't pan out the way Nintendo intended at all, due to them counting on people buying into the whole Wii thing and ignoring clear messaging about what the system actually was, and more importantly, games.

Then fact that it is a commercial flop doesn't change the fact that it was very -very- much intended as a gimmick-centered, casual system.

Re: Poll: The Nintendo NX - Where Do You Stand on the Future of Nintendo?

Thierry

Why does everyone keep saying Breath of the Wild will be a NX launch game? Nintendo have constantly and everywhere stated NX is penned in for a March 2017 launch, while for Zelda, they've constantly and only said '2017'. They would not have have been doing this (repeatedly, not just once), if Zelda was planned as a launch title.

It's likely not coming out alongside NX - I wouldn't be surprised if it got pushed to holiday 2017, actually. They never ever even mentioned Zelda being a NX launch title, simply that it will come to NX, and everyone jumped on that and claimed the two would come out simultaneously.

Re: Darksiders: Warmastered Edition Will Run At 30 FPS On Wii U

Native 1080p rendering resolution, doubled all the texture resolutions, rendering improvements and rework, better shadow rendering quality, post processing effects...

... This sounds almost too good to be real on Wii U. I'll see it when I believe it. But I'm really excited about this game! I loved the sequel, bar its technical hiccups.

Re: Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System Leads Best Seller Charts on Amazon in Europe

Thierry

Nintendo's sure getting a ton of positive press recently!

First with Breath of the Wild's overwhelmingly grand reception, then the unprecedented phenomenon that is Pokémon Go, and now this. And we still have NX to look forward to, as well as Nintendo's upcoming mobile games/apps, including both Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing. And that's not even taking Pokémon Sun and Moon into consideration...

This is pretty much their hottest year since the Wii heydays. XD Who'd have thunk it.

Re: Weirdness: It's Crazy To Think That Pokémon GO Wouldn't Exist Without Google's April Fool's Prank

Thierry

@PlywoodStick True, however I don't think investors are in a hurry to pressure Nintendo to give up their own dedicated gaming systems anytime soon, as long as they also continue to seriously support mobile (which they will as it's a goldmine).

The dedicated gaming market is still very much an extremely big and robust industry (just look at the incredible success story that is the PS4), and that isn't likely to change anytime soon. As long as Nintendo is profiting off it, they will continue to do so, and investors will want them to.

There's zero reason for Nintendo nor its investors to not want to chase both mobile and dedicated gaming, as long as the profits are there.

Re: Weirdness: It's Crazy To Think That Pokémon GO Wouldn't Exist Without Google's April Fool's Prank

Thierry

I find it funny (and positive) that the entire world is talking about this new Nintendo game/app, and how Nintendo's fortunes have changed, and how Nintendo still have it in them to create crazily popular games and all that, yet Nintendo had hardly anything to do with this game's development. XD

Sure they own large parts of The Pokémon Company (which Nintendo actually founded together with Game Freak and Creatures) and Niantic, and Pokémon games can't just be made without Nintendo's consent as they own the rights and all that, but Nintendo itself was hardly involved at all in Go's development.

But like I said, very positive for Nintendo, obviously.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Produces Extended Breath of the Wild Technical Analysis

Thierry

@Gold_Ranger You're wrong. It's even stated in this article; Digital Foundry were @ E3 and captured their gameplay, so it's direct-feed video they're using. There's no other way they could've tested and analyzed all this. XD

OT: The game's looking marvelous, and I'm super excited Monolith Soft is assisting with the game - especially after the miraculously wonderful world and visuals of Xenoblade Chronicles X!

Re: Hardware Classics: Pokémon Mini

Thierry

It's a pretty nifty piece of tech, and although I never got one back in the day, I sure wouldn't mind owning one now, just for the novelty of it.
Still nowhere near as adorably gorgeous as the GameBoy Micro though. :]
