Trying to crawl through the later half of FF16. I think this game suffered from too many cooks in the kitchen and ended up being less than the sum of its parts because if it. Its a good game, but it lacks focus on the things it does well to try and please an already polarized audience.
I mean, I won’t say no to even more characters. Personally I want more content in the form of stages, modes, and even items. Character customization making a comeback would be pretty cool too, even if it was pretty busted.
I agree, and this is as someone who lived in an area who never got these events. The allure of maybe possibly someday being able to have this exclusive line of code on your save was far better than the over abundance of legendaries and mythicals you can get just by logging in now.
Still pretty surreal seeing Gear 5 Luffy. I was in two completely different points in life when Gear 2 and Gear 4 were introduced. Wonder where I’ll be when things wrap up.
@roy130390 Yeah, I get the point of the show. My issue is that its not particularly clever or nuanced, at least in the season I watched. The characters are too flat, unlikeable, and predictable to really sell the whole subversion of the super hero genre. So yeah, when the “Super Hero bad” charm wears off its just another paint by numbers show with some edge.
Also, for the record you totally could just remove Godzilla and friends from a good amount of the Kaiju flicks. Many of them function as disaster mcguffins to get the characters moving during an emergency. Not really the generalization you think it is.
I can’t really decide. They’re both different enough experiences to exist in their own bubble. I guess if I absolutely had to choose, the original. Its one of the few RPGs you can just “pick up and play” without being tied down for dozens of hours.
@theModestMouse I’ll be honest, I don’t really see what makes The Boys so refreshing. Once you get past the initial catch of “Super Heroes evil” it really doesn’t have much else going for it.
Since I mostly play on PC I might just “speed up” the anomaly grind so I can actually reach the research quota for upgrades and new content. Aside from the grind I really enjoyed Sunbreak and am a little sad its over. Outstanding expansion and the title updates brought a lot to the table in terms of builds and content. Now that everything is out I can see myself tinkering with the insane amount of options available now.
@Agent069 Yeah if Pokemon wants to commit to open world I feel like an infusion from Monolith talent would help tremendously. This wouldn’t really help if they’re not given a good timeline to actually produce and develop however.
I’d say exploring new areas, and the loot/unique encounters that come with it. Always loved feeling like I had an edge in stuff like Final Fantasy or Zelda because I did a sidequest and suddenly I’ve got better weapons or more hearts.
@Bizzyb Unless you really care about any new characters Boruto introduces, probably not. Storm 4 already added just about anyone you could care about in the canon.
Another day, another generic Bamco anime fighter. Hard to believe it’s been 5 years since FighterZ launched, and Bamco still hasn’t licensed another IP to a more capable studio.
@riki_sidekicks Interestingly enough, the demo doesn’t introduce the “ancients”, but as soon as you load where it picks up you get dumped with lore about how their structures are all over the place. One town early on even lives on an ancient “airship”.
Having an absolute blast with the game. Every aspect of it has been a home run, and I was really itching to come back from work just to play. I think anyone upset at it not really being an RPG because of series “identity” or whatever should probably take a good long look at how much identity actually matters from game to game.
I wonder if this is really just one big bet for Microsoft to see how long they need to wait before they start rolling out Gamepass tiers and price hikes. If they win and the buyout gets approved, do they wait for the playerbase to get hooked in before they start hiking? If they lose, they’ll probably do it sooner as there isn’t much more to tap into for larger player counts(aside from better exclusives of course). Either way, I really don’t see any benefit for consumers after this.
I got a PS5 this week, so just playing games on that. Ghost of Tsushima with a little bit of Demon Souls until my copy of FF16 arrives.
Aside from that I might give Pikmin a try if I have time. Now that the Switch has easy access to every single title, I don’t see any reason not to play through them finally.
Hoping to see some news on Dragon Quest III and maybe X offline. Not really sure what else would get me excited, but hey, thats what surprises are for.
@Tempestryke Nah, those were done under some subsidies of Fox with Wes Anderson at the helm. Laika is known for Coraline, and later Kubo and the two strings(one of my favorite films ever).
Man I loved these things growing up. I got a couple from the book fair at school, I think I had the gen 2 and gen 3 editions. They were great for summer vacation road trips, and whatever you were playing on needed to be charged.
@Deenroy how well does SF6 run on PC for you? Specs say I’ll be below recommended settings, but the 8 gig VRAM requirement seems a little high for what most people are running.
I’m gonna be working two jobs for the foreseeable future, so probably not a whole lot. Might put some time into Zelda. There’s a copy of Ogre Battle 64 at a hole in the wall out of town, might drive out to grab it and play that a bit.
@MS7000 Ignore the other guy, Street Fighter historically has never really been huge in Japan, though the number is pretty low compared to say, SF4 back in ‘09. One reason for this could be due to PS5 install base in Japan, on top of other fighting games such as GG Strive being prevalent. Home consoles in particular also aren’t super popular there either. Most of Street Fighters tail carries through western markets and post launch support.
Gloom hands were pretty scary, but I can’t really think of anything else. I don’t really think any Zelda games are scary, more that some are just…grotesque? Twilight Princess and Majoras Mask come to mind.

Re: Final Fantasy Developers Reminisce On IV, V, And VI In Anniversary Chat
My favorite set of FF games. I think its been 7 years already since I last played them back to back.
Re: First 4 Figures Unveils 'The Great Mighty Poo' From Conker's Bad Fur Day
@Rooty I wouldn’t even need to. They’ll understand.
Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate GameCube Controller Getting Restocked (Japan)
@DanijoEX Not sure the year, but its a sharp VCR/TV. Not sure if the VCR works, but the display is just what I’ve been wanting.
Re: Smash Bros. Ultimate GameCube Controller Getting Restocked (Japan)
@HammerGalladeBro Same. Just got a CRT this weekend, I want to put it to good use.

Re: Save Up To 50% On Games And DLC In Koei Tecmo's eShop Summer Sale
Can finally try out Atelier Ryza. I tried playing on PC during the summer sale, but the stuttering in that version was too much for me.
Re: Japanese Charts: Zelda: TOTK And Final Fantasy XVI Battle For Supremacy
Pretty cool the competition is this close. Both are radically different, but awesome experiences. Great year for gaming.
Re: Super Famicom Horror Classic Clock Tower Is Officially Coming To The West
Thats pretty cool. These games aren’t very scary, but they’re good dumb fun with some anime shenanigans sprinkled in.
Re: Gallery: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince "Sneak Peek" - Heroes, Story & World
Excited for the game, but the day one dlc is pretty scummy. Hoping its just the usual grinding dlc you see these days.
Re: Gallery: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince "Sneak Peek" - Heroes, Story & World
@Serpenterror I doubt lazy, and more that this is just a smaller project for a niche audience.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Update Now Live (Version 1.2.0), Here Are The Full Patch Notes
@Purgatorium I can maybe understand it if you’re going for 100% completion with all upgrades. Just playing through shouldn’t require any grind.
Re: LEGO Expands Its Mario Collection With Larry And Morton's Airships
One of the few Mario sets I actually like. I think as a standalone set, they’ll look really good on a display shelf.
Re: Tsukihime: A Piece Of Blue Glass Moon Will Get First Official English Localisation In 2024
A way ti play Fate/Stay in Switch would be nice. Reading through visual novels on a TV/Monitor just don’t do it for me.

Re: Japanese Charts: Final Fantasy XVI Dethrones Zelda: TOTK After Six Weeks On Top
Not super surprising. Tears of the Kingdom has been out a while, and while FF16 is polarizing to some, its still the biggest new release since Tears.
Re: PlayStation Boss Doesn't Think Call Of Duty Appeals To Nintendo's Core Audience
Aside from Microsofts supposed 10 year commitment, I really don’t see how Nintendo is relevant in this spat.
Re: UK Charts: Unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy XVI Knocks Zelda: TOTK Down A Peg
@Glrd ATB has been around since FFII on the SNES lol
I do agree with what you’re saying though. Consistency isn’t exactly what the franchise is about.

Wait how did I miss Wiggler being playable again. This is the best news I’ve heard all week.

I mean…they’re a competitor, but they target specific niches that the other two haven’t touched in some time (RIP the Vita).

Re: Atlus Officially Confirms Persona 5 Tactica For Nintendo Switch
@UltimateOtaku91 Lol Japan isn’t the only market for these games.
My guess is we’ll get a postponed switch release sometime later, or it’ll just be confirmed for a successor if it actually exists.

I wonder if illumination is a lock, or if they’re just signing off to Universal. Would be cool if Dreamworks or Laika got a hold of it
