Haha I remember being like 12 or 13 and biking to all the different stores to see if they had a demo of the 3DS back when that came out. At this point I thought demo kiosks were a thing of the past.
Price aside, they’re ok. They seem good for the hobbyist builders who grab sets for the pieces themselves. Personally I’m more looking forward to the Piranha plant set.
@Kilamanjaro As many others have pointed out in the thread, context of the noun is completely separate from what is actually offensive. Its not like the terms “redskin” or “beaner” where there’s absolutely zero wiggle room for what the connotation behind the usage is.
Taking a second look at the kind of language we use is important as society grows, but I just don’t think this is it.
MC who is as dense as a bag of hamburgers, but is also the only thing stopping his friends from getting brutally murdered.
The laid back guy, who is always in it for a good time- or a good fight.
The lady lead, who has to be sassy all the time to show how strong and independent she is, but also needs to be forced into positions where she has to show a soft spot or put in danger so the MC can save her.
The absolutely insane character, who always has to laugh like a maniac and overact every line because other wise we might not know just how crazy they are.
The seductress, who can’t seem to get a line out without there being an innuendo or patronizing statement. More than likely carrying a large bossom.
The idiot. They probably eat a lot. Probably ridiculously OP.
The loli, who serves no other purpose than to either be annoying or for the MC to develop some strange fatherlike bond with the tiny demigod. Well, unfortunately there are some other purposes…
And last but not least, our villains, who are irredeemable every step of the way, but need to be shown just how tragic and alone they were in their time of need because otherwise I won’t get invested in them as a viewer.
@Jappio As far as the writing goes, it kind of feels like 3 was around when the writing took a huge hit in favor of tired gags. 4 and 5 had decent stories, but were often held back by the same issues: one note characters with a gag being their only personality.
I think I still have this lying around somewhere. It came with a pretty cool Day 1 collectors box with the soundtrack.
For anyone on the fence, its a decent game. It doesn’t particularly stand out in any way, but if you just need an RPG to press buttons on, you can’t go wrong here.
@Grail_Quest Its been a really cozy game so far. I’ve never played it before, but it has me nostalgic of times where I’d play FF10 or DQ8 on my PS2 before school every morning.
I don’t have any crazy gaming collectibles. Maybe physicals of all the Dragon Quest games(game only for most), and maybe a complete copy of Ogre battle on PS1. Tons of expensive gunpla tho lol.
I think the teams who work on Dragon Quest are just spread pretty thin right now. Since the announcement, Dragon Quest X offline came out and got an expansion or two, along with Treasures last year. Within the next couple of months we’re getting Adventure of Dai(not sure what amount of Square is actually working on this) and Monsters.
Very likely after these projects we’ll start seeing the remake and eventually 12 roll out.
@RendoFonzarelli As someone who enjoys both mediums, I think you’re on to something. TellTale games along with the old point and click adventures filled that void, but I think there is an untapped market for a lot of “picture books” to be made. Established IPs such as the Witcher or RedWall would benefit, but original work would also be very refreshing to see.
Wishful thinking, but an upscaled port of SMT:IV, or any of their back catalogue would be nice. The Digital Devil Saga Duology doesn’t need to be trapped on the PS2 anymore.
@Runex2121 It’s a shame that Lufia falls more and more into obscurity each year. Maybe one day we’ll get the games ported to NSO. Even the first one is just a fun “comfort food” RPG similar to the Dragon Quest games from the time.
This weekend I’ll be finishing up Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and then taking on Act 2 of Baldurs Gate 3. Somewhere in between I’ll be doing Picross puzzles or building Gundams.
Looking forward to making the most out of this weekend.
Baldurs Gate 3 will probably end up being my personal GOTY, but I don’t see it winning over Zelda or Starfield in a popularity contest. Can’t stress enough what a great year its been for games.
@HotGoomba Not sure why. This has been the norm for a little over a decade now. The only joke is how behind network infrastructure is for a lot of places.
@Varkster Haven’t had the guts to try the Pathfinder games for this exact reason. I’ll get to them eventually, but I feel like I’ll really need the time and attention span to commit to a more complex ruleset. Nowadays, games like Divinity:OS 2 and Baldurs Gate 2 still give me quite a bit of trouble, so I’m probably just not ready yet.
@FishyS Its just been an outstanding year for gaming. A lot of genres have had some great hits, with some potential titles standing the test of time to become landmarks to look back on.
@Rika_Yoshitake Eh. Like Street Fighter is to fighting games, Baldur’s Gate 3 is accessible in the sense that anyone can pick up and play, but a lot of newcomers will need to catch up on some basic fundamentals. Compared to other titles in the genre, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a hell of a lot easier to grasp. Numbers are small, and any sort of advanced mechanic can be expanded on the spot with the press of a button. Builds are relatively simple and don’t require a ton of min/maxing. Decision making follows the DND improv rule of “never say no” allowing the player to commit to their decision and let them feel like it was the natural choice without holding their hand through it all.
I won’t lie and say its for everyone, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a ton of new players gets into the CRPG genre after this hit.
As much as I wanted to like Secret of Mana, I just can’t every bring myself to beat it. Aside from the OST, nothing about it has really aged well. The biggest offender is the combat. Its slow, and the balance is lopsided due to how stats, magic, and the wait time for attack proficiency works. The leveling for magic and weapons was also very obtuse.
Baldur’s Gate 3 mostly, maybe some more runs of Super Castlevania 4. Not sure why, but in this last week I really caught a Castlevania bug and have been going through IV nonstop.
@Snatcher A Naruto 3v3 just makes a ton of sense given the way the squads work. I think the most daunting aspect would be even choosing who makes the cut. Narutos cast is massive, and pretty varied with how everyone fights.
There was a time from about 2019-2021 where if I wasn’t playing Smash, I was playing FighterZ with not much else in between. This game was an absolute blast.
My guess is an FF16 pack. Would be cool if sometime down the line they add some Endwalker tracks, and maybe fill in some gaps for some of the other titles. Now that the game is finally on systems that can carry a long tail, I don’t see any reason(besides money) to just keep updating with new tracks.
