Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Star Fox For Switch 2?

SirLink

I don't know, I always sucked pretty much at this game, at least in the snes versions, so I'm not sure I'd have fun with it. In other words, it looks cool, just not €50 cool. I'd rather try Star Fox 64 in NSO first, since this game is basically a remake — cough sorry — "cinematic reimagining".

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (2nd May)

SirLink

My journey through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection is coming along splendidly; I've just cracked on with FFV.

Looking back at the previous chapter, what a brilliant adventure that was, it's no surprise it spawned a whole saga! Even though the ATB system was a bit of a shock at first (and it would've been much more bearable if enemies didn't appear so frequently), I stuck with it, and the story was more than worth the effort.

Re: A Demo For Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Is Now Available On Switch 2

SirLink

Given how this entry has been received even more positively than the previous one, I'm really looking forward to playing it. That said, I'd like to get through the Pixel Remaster Collection, the original Final Fantasy VII and VII Remake first, more for my own sense of completeness than any real narrative continuity.

I'm also avoiding the demo for now to steer clear of spoilers. Meanwhile, I'm going to upgrade my SD card.

As for Square Enix, they generally put a lot of care into their ports. Results on fixed hardware tend to be very solid, and while releases on more variable platforms like PC or mobile don't always land perfectly straight away, they're usually brought up to a very good standard over time with patches.

In any case, it's hard to complain about how widely they support modern platforms, you could almost imagine their games running on a fridge at some point.

Re: UK Charts: Pragmata Shoves Tomodachi Life Off The Top Spot

SirLink

It looks like this game deserves some attention. I’m really tempted to get it, but my backlog is already full of 90–200+ hour games (including a couple from Capcom itself), and I doubt I’m alone.
I’ll probably pick it up soon anyway — especially if it’s really around 22 hours long — just to support this kind of experience and send the message that games don’t need to be huge to be fun.

Re: Opinion: Here Are Six Ways 'Alien: Isolation 2' Can Improve Upon The Original

SirLink

To be honest, I'm not particularly interested in a horror/sci-fi game whose features can be so easily predicted on paper. The first game was outstanding, but creating it that way must have been almost as challenging as writing a good sci-fi novel, and fans know just how hard it is to craft something that truly leaves a mark.

That's why I'd rather be surprised. At most, they could consider adding a "guided" mode for those who struggle to progress, without compromising the core experience.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th April)

SirLink

I'm still working my way through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection, playing them all in order. Right now I'm on FF IV.
Not gonna lie, I really don't like how rough and punishing the ATB system feels so far, especially given the difficulty, but the story's good and I want to see how it ends, so I'm sticking with it and hoping it improves in the later games.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Play Zelda Games For The Story?

SirLink

In Zelda games, the story is really there to serve the gameplay, so it doesn't matter that much how complex it is as long as it makes the adventure enjoyable. Most of the time it's so simple you barely pay attention to it, but it still does the job.

That's exactly why Zelda musou games like Hyrule Warriors never really clicked for me. It's just not a genre I'm that into, and no amount of story or attempts to tie it into the Zelda timeline really makes a difference. I much prefer the classic action-adventure Zelda games.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (18th April)

SirLink

I'm close to beating FF3 Pixel Remaster before moving on to FF4. Even though there's no direct continuity between the games, I'm really enjoying playing the Pixel Remaster series in order. as it gives a great sense of how the series evolved over time.

I'm also playing Hogwarts Legacy.

Re: Switch 2 Rating For Bethesda's Newest IP Appears Online

SirLink

The most overrated and overadvertised game in gaming history.

People are still laughing about how much coverage “some local gaming website” gave it here—there was news about it every single day for over a year, right up until its release.

This should really give us a sense of how reliable gaming journalism can be at times.

No offence meant, of course.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Pragmata For Switch 2?

SirLink

With my huge backlog, spending another €60 on a new game seems crazy to me. I’ve also heard it’s quite short, which is fine since quality doesn’t depend on length, but it still makes the standard €60 price feel unjustified. I’ll probably pick it up at a discount someday, and if I don’t, it’s not a big deal.

Re: Looks Like 'Elden Ring' Will Be A Pricey Game-Key Card Release On Switch 2

SirLink

@BaldB3lper78 there's no need to resell a game when you get it cheap. And Elden Ring is €30 on eneba right now.
Besides, I'm not going to fool myself anymore into thinking that I'll resell a game after a while, because it either never happens if I like it, or I have to practically give it away if it sucks.
Happy gaming everyone, especially those who don't want to get ripped off.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Would You Most Like To See Remade?

SirLink

I love ALttP and I believe it's the best Zelda ever made, which is why I wouldn't want to see it ruined by some remake/remaster. I believe ALbW already fills that role.

Despite this, I also think that many 3DS titles should still be ported to Switch, as that great console had one big weakness: it lacked a TV mode.

Re: Europe Might Be Forcing Nintendo To Revise The Switch 2

SirLink

I'm gonna swap my Switch 2 with the newer model featuring a removable battery as soon as it comes out, as long as there are no performance drawbacks.

Besides, I get a kick out of reading the comments and spotting who writes just to make Nintendo earn more, versus those who actually enjoy the products they bought. Obviously, the purposes aren't the same.

Curiously, the same names, the same motives keep popping up every time—fake ones stand out like neon signs, you can spot them a mile away.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Has "No Plans For Additional DLCs Or Expansions"

SirLink

I think this game is already great as it is. DLCs usually just stretch a game longer without adding anything meaningful to the experience. Phantom Liberty was an exception, though not entirely.

@Corsich I hear you. The Witcher 3 port was a miracle, but I think it’s time they start working on a Switch 2 upgrade. Even just higher resolution, more detailed meshes for plants, and larger textures would make a big difference, IMO.

Re: Nintendo "Cagey" About Letting Games On Switch 2, Wants To Avoid "Slop Fest"

SirLink

Shovelware is everywhere, and there's no point in trying to block it. Besides, if you don't implement any voting system, you are the problem, and you know it. You don't want it, you don't buy it. If that's an issue, try dealing with your compulsive shopping problem instead.

Anyway, instead of worrying about such non-issues, they should focus on game pricing and allowing keys from other resellers. Take FF7 Remake, for example: it's €50 on Switch 2, €40 on Steam when not on sale, and €18 on Eneba. You can probably guess where I'll be getting it 👍

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?

SirLink

Mine is a New 3DS XL that I modded to accommodate a USB-C port, so that I can recharge it via commonly available cables when I can't bring my original Nintendo charging cradle with myself.

Re: Poll: Will You Be Getting Pokémon FireRed Or LeafGreen On Switch?

SirLink

@justin233 I appreciate your advice about being strong and doing something productive. But let’s be real — no one has to buy or play everything just because Nintendo releases it.

Twenty bucks per game isn’t a fortune, but it quickly adds up if you try to grab those and a whole bunch of other titles you probably won’t even have time to play. Or if you already pay for a subscription you don’t even need.

If you genuinely like something, buy it and enjoy it thoroughly.
Just don’t be greedy — fight your gaming “bulimia.”
Quality over quantity.

Re: Nintendo Seemingly Rules Out Virtual Console Revival, Says It Remains Focused On Offering Classics Via Switch Online

SirLink

Nowadays, people buy hundreds of games they’ll probably never play. At this rate, they'd need a thousand years to clear their backlog. And yet, they keep adding more, subscribe to services like NSO, grab every sale, expand their libraries, knowing they'll seriously play only a handful of those titles.

At some point, it stops being passion and starts looking like accumulation for its own sake. If you really love a game, you buy it to experience it. You take your time with it. You don’t rush through it just to move on, and you don’t leave it untouched as part of a growing collection. And you definitely want to OWN it.
