@sethfranum that doesn't answer anything, but it's actually part of my job and nobody has ever complained about it. I think we can close this obnoxious discussion here.
@Markiemania95 I wouldn't know if it's nuclear or not, but it surely makes people pretty nervous about buying a used console, and I suspect it's done on purpose, even in case they just ban it from online services.
I hope it'll give me some good reason to buy, because from what I've seen so far it all really looked like a huge mess, and I'm hoping I'm wrong. Maybe it's just time to start saving for MP4.
No, I got a screen protection glass lol
A gorilla glass should have been the standard tho. That's probably one of the two weakenesses of this console, together with the battery charge duration.
I don't like piracy, but I really can't see how people can be happy about a corporation taking an anticonsumer behavior which, moreover, doesn't seem to stop anything but just penalises paying customers.
Being happy to know they can make what you legally bought useless sounds a bit masochistic, doesn't it.
When physical games will be gone, I wonder what new excuses and "enemies" they find to keep behaving like that and to convince you that it's the right thing to do.
@Rebusmind @Simu001 it could also be caused by a faulty hardware. I used to own this Huawei phone which caused 3 batteries of 3 different makers go swollen.
Not only I'm loving it, but I also find it addictive. Whenever I don't feel like playing something that demands too much attention, I often start playing this game and I end up on being unable to stop! I'm trying to collect 3 stars for every grand prix and knockout tours at 150cc, but I also love wandering in the free roam mode and discovering secret challenges, it's relaxing and still stimulates my curiousity.
Nonetheless, I still think that we need some kind of a legacy mode with all the Booster Course Pass + MK8 tracks. There's no need to create a map to connect them all with each other. I mean, I find it unthinkable that, among the NSO subscribers, MK8 owners get that DLC while MKW owners don't.
Essentially and actually the same are different, they look similar sure, but there are differences, these differences could be the key, an how that plays out, time will tell.
Ok, can you elaborate on that? I mean, we have already seen what the technology and the materials are. What do you think would make the difference? I guess you have to argue your point here, a generic claim isn't enough.
In my opinion, World should be 1st. But it isn't because many people are still sulking at Nintendo and their prices lol
Even I am not happy about them but c'mon, a great game is a great game.
It's actually pretty cool, and I like that you can close it physically. The low resolution makes sense as the gamechat itself should not use resources in excess, so keeping the image pretty small should be a must. This is not supposed to be a replacement for the camera of your comp or of your mobile.
Also, if I'm not wrong, Nintendo's camera shouldn't be usable in handheld mode, while this one is.
Anyway, I still have to check this gamechat out, so I can't take this camera in consideration in advance, but I'll take note of it just in case.
EDIT: I have to correct myself, it looks like it's totally possible to use Nintendo's camera in portable mode.
Anyway, Hori's camera called "holiday" has a look that matches the console"s better and should be more or less the same as this one.
I started the day playing Mario Kart World in the knockout mode, tonight I'm going to play BotW and I'll give Zelda Notes another chance lol I'll probably do the same tomorrow.
From what I've seen so far, I guess I'd better keep playing this game on my RTX3060 laptop for now, which is far from being the best way to play it, but still provides some more stable fps with full details. Still, I have to praise CDPR for their progresses on Switch 2 and I hope they keep going that way. Actually, if they get to send a "Switch 2 edition" update to Witcher 3 within a month, even only containing full res textures, I'd still buy CP2077 for Switch 2 right away to support them.
@Picola-Wicola sounds good, maybe some people just got some rare units with issues, especially at the buttons. I should give it a try, but I'm going to wait for Gulikit to say they'll update it first.
Great news, and their controllers use TMR so they can't drift. Trouble is that it looks like the overall build quality seems pretty low, judging by the negative reviews, especially on the KK3 series. Yet they aren't even cheap.
It's a solid 8.5 for me, which could be rounded to 9, and that's a very positive score, considering that I've never really managed to fully enjoy the previous titles of the same series.
@Rosona
Oh I agree about Odyssey, we need more tests with several games without upgrades.
About the drifting issue, we do know, and we need to be objective here.
I'm aware that in most cases, people who say they have a drift problem don't even know what it is. But drifting definitely happens, we just have to see when, maybe in 1 month, maybe in 10 years, who knows? It has never happened to me because I treat the joycons delicately and I have changed consoles quite often, but sooner or later the materials get worn out, that's a fact. And drifting did happen quite more often than desiderable.
As shown by TronicsFix, the joycon 2 stick potentiometers have exactly the same design and the same materials inside as the previous ones. Not even the metal coatings are different. To tell the truth, the mechanical parts are even smaller, which means that they will have a harder time absorbing the force applied by the fingers, so they will actually wear out even more easily. It's physics, not just my personal opinion.
Still about the battery duration, I've just found a youtube video by TechCravers that compares the charge duration of Switch Lite, Switch OLED and Switch 2 while running Super Mario Odyssey and staying idle. Maybe it isn't exactly a scientific criterion, still gives an idea about the differences.
Switch 2 takes 2h46'52'' to turn off
Switch Lite takes 3h12'59''
Switch OLED takes 5h27'46''
I was planning to resell my OLED for a Switch Lite and get a second dock for my Switch 2, but after watching this video I've changed my mind.
Man the zelda notes with the voice activated feels like google maps telling you what to do every 10 secs lol
Anyway, I'm loving replaying BotW from scratch with the new improvements!
OLED is not better, it's a design choice. They could have used an OLED screen but then then you would have had to say goodbye to VRR. And since you enjoy playing CP2077, you wouldn't have liked it.
Speaking of frequency, you'd better measure it in Hz instead of fps. They are two very different things.
Anyway, the new screen is about the size I had hoped we'd get for Switch OLED, so it's more than welcome, not to mention HDR and the 120Hz. The downside of all of this is the increase of power consumption.
As I had predicted a while ago, the new joycons are also prone to drifting and the battery charge duration is way less than people were expecting.
And there comes a design choice I don't understand tho: was it really so necessary to keep the console so thin? I mean, if you choose magnets to attach the joycons while giving up on Hall effect sticks and have a system that drains your battery quite easily, why not make the console thicker so that you can have more room for a bigger battery and for larger stick mechanics that will take longer to wear out? That wouldn't have been a definitive solution, but it would have helped a lot.
As a workaround to the battery problem, I should receive an Anker Powerbank today, with 20Ah and 65W output on USB-C (86W in total). Pretty good for 40€. I'll let you know how it goes.
The dock with the inner fan is cool too, the only issue is that it's 110€! It must be made of gold.
Apart from this, I love the mouse mode and I hope more and more games will support it, especially strategy and FPS ones.
As for the backward compatibility, I initially was a bit concerned about it, but they recently did some major overhaul to make more titles compatible with great results. Moreover, after a few tests, I realised that they are very close to make everything work on the new console. I'm still missing youtube tho lol
Although I usually enjoy Piggyback's works and love Metroid Prime, I fail to see any reasons to get this book. I mean, it looks cool but there's nothing more.
I was noticing that many other allegedly "incompatible" games actually seem to run fine on Switch 2, such as South Park: The Fractured but whole, Yomawari, Chrono Cross, the Dragon's Lair trilogy and KOTOR 2.
Instead, Trover saves the universe and Grid Autosport normally crash at startup, but if you activate the flight mode before running them and then disable it again, they run fine. Well, Grid Autosport does until you request online features. It looks like a networking issue for both? Maybe not so different from the same one of No Man's Sky.
@FoxyDude I agree, nobody wants the hassle of having to insert a physical media to play a digital game, unless you get it VERY cheap.
That already suggests there won't be a great "resale market" for these game-key cards, because as soon as people understand they can't earn much from resales, they'll stop buying game-key cards new.
@Geit_de oh yes, I heard those are great, thank you. Unfortunately those won't work in the Switch 2 joycons as the magnetic part would interfere. Looks like there are going to be many replacement parts around for quite a long time lol
@Geit_de yup, I agree. Before the release of Switch 2, I was hoping they'd slip in bigger mechanical parts, but after I saw that the thickness of the new console is more or less the same, I realised that the new joycons had to have the same chances of breaking as the old ones, if not more. Btw what did you replace your sticks with?
I'm curious to see how they are going to use TMR and still contain costs. Anyway guys, just learn to control the pressure of your fingers better. I had 4 Switch's + a Pro controller and never met the drift issue. Sure, it can still happen, but even then replacing the stick is less of a hassle than all this (apart from the Pro controller which requires some soldering).
@AllBLK well maybe it's a bit too early to talk about the game format for the next generation console, but your comment does make a lot of sense to me and unfortunately that's the direction they took.
Smart move by WB, their Hogwarts Legacy sold a lot thanks to the strong discount on Switch and by giving the deluxe owners the chance to get the Switch 2 edition too very cheap. Btw you can keep playing both editions on Switch and Switch 2 without having to move the "digital cartridge" over and over. They did the right thing both for themselves and for the customers.
@sixrings oh I agree, S2 isn't cheap and in fact it won't repeat the sales of Switch 1. After all it would be crazy if it did. But is it still so expensive if we consider the hardware? I don't think so. Let's say that it comes as an answer to some people's needs, but it can't be everyone's cup of tea. Sure, they could have made the effort of selling it cheaper and at a loss, but it would have been too risky as most games are still for S1 and selling well.
That's a way to hide the low sales of game-key cards and still say they went great. Btw you may find my comments "unconstructive", but I have never made a wrong prediction so far.
I got to buy one on D1 and probably was lucky enough to even find it available as now it's sold out anywhere. It's a pretty standard protection which is ok for most cases, and it's also cheap as it's 25€ here, considering that it's an official product.
This is also why I wouldn't pay more than 30€ for the Genki one, and I won't indeed lol
About the screen protection, the only reason why I'm not using it is because I wanted to get an anti-glare one to play in the sun (but it also comes with a downside). Otherwise, it's a pretty decent one, there's no reason why you'd need real glass lol
@Ramouz things never happen because of strange reasons, Switch sold a lot because it's as cheap as a mid-range mobile, or even a low one if you consider Switch Lite, and a reliable unique Nvidia-powered platform where to publish games. There is still nothing like that out there. If you're interested in games, then games is all you need to care about, not the hardware.
Same for S2, you buy it mainly because of Nintendo games, there's nothing strange about it. Why isn't it there yet? There where?
