Too much of the usual stuff. Sometimes it seems to me that we are getting some "Netflix effect" in gaming: we get way too much of what we'd like to see, until we feel fed up with it. Unfortunately, the further we go, the sooner this seems to happen.
@chiptoon good question, but I guess it wouldn't be a biggie on Switch 2: on Steam I obtained a refund for some Ubisoft titles because I refused to install their bloatware, but there's no such thing on console.
@GgGames I fail to see what piracy has to do with the fact that you have to pay an arm and a leg for a used copy of some older games. Greed sounds like a more reasonable cause to me. Besides, most old games wouldn't even be known to the newest generations of gamers if it wasn't for piracy, and "some publishers" wouldn't have had the chance to earn from them again 20-30 years later by selling toy consoles and subscriptions to "online services" (coughs). I mean, let's not deny that the interest for old games has often been kept alive by rom sites for quite a long while.
Outstanding performance of the Switch 2, although this is a bit like comparing apples to oranges. Hopefully, Steam will show us more about its new Steam Frame. Anyway, Ubisoft did a great optimisation work here.
Btw yesterday Factor of Games did a similar comparison using Cronos and, loading time apart, unfortunately it looked damn better on the Steam Deck because of the OLED screen, since it's a game that has many dark scenes. I suppose that game is best played on TV.
I'll never understand the amount of sympathy some people show for this kind of stuff. I mean, they won the lawsuit, good for them, they didn't risk to go bankrupt and become homeless anyway, but well done on not getting any more "significant and irreparable harm" (lol). 1st world problems, I guess. So what's the reason for all this cheerleading anyway? Go figure.
LOL now CP2077 got above the Zeldas. Great game, but c'mon...
@Mommar contrary to what I had planned, I started playing Silksong, and what I can say so far is that this game is just unforgiving. So, it's pretty much the exact opposite of what most of Nintendo gamers are used to, but this doesn't mean that it can't be a great game. The amount and the care for graphic and sound details is just amazing.
Set between the events of Empire and Return of the Jedi which, let's face it, is way, way cooler than anything that's happened in Star Wars since
I totally agree.
Anyway, as long as the framerate doesn't drop below 30fps, I'm fine with it. The only issue I have with this game is that I'm not going to spend 60€ for a game-key card, I'd rather buy it from the eshop, preferably on sale.
I'm still aiming to 100% complete Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star Crossed World and loving it, although last week I didn't have much time to play it.
Afterwards, I'm going to move onto Hollow Knight Silksong. I got it on D1 and I don't want to wait ages before I play it, as it's been a while since last time I played a 2D metroidvania.
This game seems to have quickly become a cultural phenomenon; apart from causing servers to go down, everyone's talking about the price (especially with envy), but no one's mentioning the lack of DRM. Despite this, apparently, even pirates are telling people not to steal the game. This is a complete victory for Team Cherry on all fronts, with a final humiliation for those publishers who have been whining about piracy for years as an excuse to pursue anti-consumer policies. And this is making me change my gaming schedule, as I hadn't planned to play 3rd party games any time soon.
The lineup is slowly growing but we aren't there yet: Switch 2 owners can enjoy from an amazing range of games, but to be honest there are still not enough reasons to convince most existing Switch 1 owners to upgrade.
MKW is great and so is DK Bananza, although the latter got out the beta stage a bit too early IMO. Anyway, they absolutely need to release MP4 within the end of the year... and a Mario game too wouldn't hurt. Kirby Air Riders was announced too close from the MKW release, that doesn't make sense. And I can sense too many smashing actions in these games anyway. The upgrades to existing titles are amazing, but let's face it: they can't really be considered part of the Switch 2 line up.
Backwards compatibility is great, but unfortunately still an issue with many titles, and this shouldn't have happened. I hope they restart progressing on this aspect.
I still haven't played any Switch 2 specific 3rd party games yet and haven't planned to do it any time soon because of my backlog, but the upgrades for Hogwarts Legacy and No Man's Sky looked great when I tried them quickly. To be honest, I would love if CDPR did the same to Witcher 3, even only bigger textures would be enough for me, I'd even be willing to buy CP2077 again full price if they did lol
Anyway, now newer 3rd party devs could screw badly by pushing the console specs beyond its limits, so I can understand if Nintendo doesn't really give the development kit to everyone, but I'd really like to know what they planned to do with it in the future, because I'm not sure publishers would love to stand this for long. We'll see.
Can we have I/O benchmarks of the Switch 2 internal storage, of a few commonly available SD cards express, and of an average Switch 2 card? I'd like to have some detailed info before agreeing or disagreeing with this guy.
It's not like ONE or TEN or ONE HUNDRED buyers need to repay you for all your efforts. Sometimes such problems are solved either with advertising or by lowering prices. Lower prices, higher sales.
If it goes well, fine, otherwise, welcome to the club: there are plenty of things I'm good at and that I wanted to do in life, but I realized I wouldn't be able to make a living from them.
Do you know what happened? Some of these have become my hobbies, which I can pay for with another job.
I didn't even know those titles existed lol
Still no YouTube, no South Park TFBW, no This War of Mine, no Borderlands 3, no Chrono Cross, no Trover Saves the World, no KOTOR2, some games like Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein TNC still untested etc. So, not exactly minor titles...
The fixes of compatibility issues were progressing well, but now they slowed down dramatically.
Still, I have to admit, they're good at not making a big deal out of the fact that these issues should have already been fixed on launch day.
@BTB20 I'm not denying that those publishers you mentioned can discount their games heavily, although not always, but they are just a small minority. But hey, I think it's pretty pointless to do a challenge between you and me on who's got it longer when everyone else here know and can see by themselves what the truth of the eshop is, even by checking out on deku deals. It's not like I'm making anything up.
@TrogdorTheBurninator I'm not trying to convince you to do either choice, but I'm sure you can still play MKW and Splatoon 3 even without a subscription, although not online. Multiplayer is likely limited to local players.
@BTB20 that's why I said "with few exceptions", with publishers like Capcom or Bandai-Namco or WB in mind, but they are still exceptions. I'm not sure if all others are just trying to emulate Nintendo's behavior on purpose, but that's what most of them end up doing. Most games are cyclically discounted of the very same percentage.
70 bucks, ladies and gents. Next year it'll likely be given out for free or very cheap on PC, as the previous game did on Epic, while Nintendo will still sell it at full price.
I could be wrong, but something tells me that people in Europe are actually buying the DLCs that NSO offers for free and are also showing a certain lack of interest in the unrequested demos. Nintendo must have noticed this and taken it as a warning bell.
@Rijzebrew I completely agree with you. Of the hundreds of games that take more than 50-100 hours to complete, I've probably only had fun with the Mario (not really) RPGs, the Zelda series, and a few others. Most of the rest, while not "bad," is simply bloated. Once upon a time, games used to be incredibly entertaining in just 10-20 hours, though you often ended up spending much longer on them, but you already knew the challenges each one presented, and you tried harder and harder to complete them, and the more skilled you became, the faster you completed them. This Kirby game feels more "old school," while DK Bananza feels bloated to me, especially in the beginning. It feels like they released the latter unfinished but for some reason still wanted to make it last THAT long in advance, so they stuffed the beginning with unnecessary stuff. But it looks like there isn't much care for those gamers that have a life. Meanwhile, backlogs grow more and more with games that most people haven't even tried to play.
Simon the Sorcerer Origins looks like an interesting sequel. Speaking of point & click adventures, it looks like GOG and Steam are getting this "Shadow and Steel" collection of old Revolution glories (which is pretty much nonsense on PC, since you can already get each game for free). I'm loving every part of this game although platformers aren't exactly my cup of tea anymore.
I guess I'll be able to tell my impressions of this game when I try a demo, since I've never played it before. But if these impressions are confirmed, then it'll be another new Switch 2 game crossed off my wish list. I mean, come on, you can't do something like this just a couple of months after the release of a new console.
Maybe Nintendo should either be more selective about developers when deciding who to entrust with the development kit, or just give it to anyone requesting it.

I'm enjoying double dipping in this game and playing the expansion, the game is great but I hear what many say: 80 bucks is pretty much an insane price for it.
I got the same results at a fraction of the cost just a few months after the Switch 2's release. This means we won't have to wait long for cheaper alternatives with the same features to flood the market. In the meantime, Genki guys could have sold a lot more if they hadn't been so greedy with those crazy prices and the shipment costs.
It's understandable; there are few advantages to buying it digitally. The lowest price ever was €63 on the e-shop, compared to €70 full price.

@Sylamp as far as I know, Roiland is out of Squanch Games since 2023.
Just cute? As someone who took 3D modeling as a hobby, I find they are just amazingly perfect in every freaking detail, just like the game. That isn't skill, that's magic.
Releasing it on December would probably be their smartest move. Anyway, I'm fine with any date as long as they tell us when soon, hopefully in September.
Meanwhile, I'm also wondering what Nintendo is going to do for Mario's 40th anniversary, which will be next September 13. I can't believe they haven't planned any Mario release.
I like Layers of Fear, it doesn't make you cry out for a miracle but it was well made, while Layers of Fear 2 sucks hugely. The Observer was ok but pretty short, which might not be a con according to some. Cronos looks great but I'm not interested in shooters. Inventing a good horror novel/game from scratch is very hard, and it definitely is not just a demonstration of manufacturing ability. We'll see what they have in mind.
Nope, sorry but the games at the top of my gaming tasklist are all published by Nintendo as they have the highest priority. I'm sure Hollow Knight is a great game, but it's been there in my backlog since ages and it's very unlikely that I get to play it before next year.
