Re: Nintendo's Strict Policy On MiG Carts Is Creating A Problem For Secondhand Switch 2 Buyers

SirLink

@Ikswoltok nonsense. If you really want to punish pirates, you just ban their accounts while demanding that whoever makes a Nintendo account add their data (or their parents' data in case of minors) together with traceable payment methods. Once they identify you, you can't escape, until you do an identify theft which would definitely attract all the attention of the authorities.
Banning a console only punishes 2nd hand buyers. But maybe that's what they are really interested in at Nintendo, since in their mind 2nd hand buyers should buy new products instead.

Re: Digital Foundry Is "Happy" With Switch 2 But Feels The Screen Is "Problematic"

SirLink

if you film at say 240 frames per second

Do we really have to comment on this? They should let him join the Marvel Superheroes crew if he spotted that out with the naked eye.

There are clear problems with Switch 2’s VRR (variable refresh rate) functionality too.

What problems? The problems would only arise by using VRR on an OLED screen. Avoiding flickering would be a nightmare and would probably even require per app tuning in some cases.
The alternative would be to reserve VRR to the TV out and to make an OLED screen without VRR, by probably paying even more. No, thanks.

Re: Forget Switch 2 Game Key-Cards - "Full On-The-Cart Physical Releases" Are What People Want, Says Publisher Lost In Cult

SirLink

Given that I hate game-key cards not because they exist, but because those publishers that use them don't really give a physical alternative, I wonder why so far so few people have complained about those Switch 1 games that require game data downloads, or about those collections on cards that don't really include all the games.

This is not a new problem, it's been around for quite a long while now.

Also:

Many have warned that this system is anti-consumer; when Nintendo turns off the servers in a few years, the cards become useless.

Shouldn't we say the same about those games (including Nintendo ones) that require a D1 update to run?

Re: GRID Autosport Ready To Race On Switch 2 Thanks To Latest Firmware Update

SirLink

This is a great racing game, and the alternative controls can be a smart workaround to get analog input with digital triggers, like those on Switch/Switch 2 Pro controllers and joycons.

I was hoping Nintendo would find a way to get this to work on the Switch 2 ever since I saw it on the incompatible games list, and I'm so glad they finally did.

Plus, Feral Interactive managed to pull off another miracle by bringing this to Android, so I hope it gets the attention it deserves.

I really don't get why PC gamers seem to have never loved this title, but I guess sometimes people are just weird.

Re: Former Nintendo Execs Fear We Might Be Waiting A While For A 3D Mario On Switch 2, Thanks To Donkey Kong

SirLink

In a matter of few days I went from "meh" to "superhyped" about this game. I was initially doubtful that EPD was really behind it, but I guess I can detect their trait on Bananza and that's a guarantee of success.

They might be not "pumping out games", but I find that positive as long as they make great stuff. After all, you can't just "pump out" works of art.

Re: Japanese Charts: Switch 2 Won't Slow Down, Surpasses 1 Million Consoles Sold

SirLink

@Serpenterror oh cool, even better for them lol thanks for the info!

@Maxz thank you, that's lots of info! To tell the truth, since I'm in Italy, I wasn't really comparing Japanese prices to the US ones. Anyway, I'm surprised that in Japan the average yearly salary is even less than here. Here's the average salary is around 30000€ neat, which makes the Switch 2 cost 1.57% of it as it's 470€, just slightly more than the multilanguage version there. Unfortunately we don't have any information about the Switch 2 sales here, so we can't do a real comparison, but it's surely way less than 1 million units, considering that 200000 were sold in France. Also, I wasn't aware of the lottery, the demand must be really impressive!

Re: More Switch Titles Get Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Fixes

SirLink

Also Yomawari, Remothered: Tormented Fathers, Grid Autosport are now officially supported.
Dragon's Lair trilogy, KOTOR 2, Chronocross, South Park: the fractured but whole and Trover Saves the Universe seem to run fine too here now, I wonder why they are still considered unsupported.
The real mystery is why Crypt of the Necrodancer crashes on startup while Cadence of Hyrule runs just fine and is fully supported.

Re: Best Power Banks and Chargers To Play Nintendo Switch 2 On The Go

SirLink

Great article. I would also mention the Anker Power bank 20000mAh with 87W output in total (65W on the USB-C). I got it a week ago. A short cable is already built-in.

Maybe it hasn't got the best form factor for playing in handheld mode unless you don't mind keeping the battery on your lap, but it's great for tabletop.

For handheld, I would wait for the release of a few 10000mAh 60W magsafe batteries that you can attach on the back of the console. Genki is going to release one in July but it's pretty expensive, I'm sure others will follow. Oh btw, I think with batteries bigger than 10Ah you might have some problems with some airlines.

Re: Third-Party Launch Games On Switch 2 Reportedly Sold "Very Low Numbers"

SirLink

Considering that a 2020 (and already widely known) game is the best selling 3rd party title, maybe 3rd party publishers should really think twice before they use game-key cards or act like they all are Nintendo and raise the prices of their games above 50 bucks just because, especially after people have already spent a f**kton of money on the console and an exclusive.

I mean, it shouldn't really need to be said, but here we are.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Direct: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?

SirLink

Outstanding, Nintendo is definitely giving its customers another very good reason for them to buy a Switch 2. This title, MKW and MP4 are going to be the true spearhead of the console.

To be honest, the game looked like something completely different than what was shown initially by many journalists who went over to try the Switch 2 before its release and told us what they saw.

Now that we've seen what Bananza is really about, I'm sold. Preordered.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Banning Switch 2's Using MIG Cartridges

SirLink

@sethfranum that doesn't answer anything, but it's actually part of my job and nobody has ever complained about it. I think we can close this obnoxious discussion here.

@Markiemania95 I wouldn't know if it's nuclear or not, but it surely makes people pretty nervous about buying a used console, and I suspect it's done on purpose, even in case they just ban it from online services.

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Banning Switch 2's Using MIG Cartridges

SirLink

I don't like piracy, but I really can't see how people can be happy about a corporation taking an anticonsumer behavior which, moreover, doesn't seem to stop anything but just penalises paying customers.
Being happy to know they can make what you legally bought useless sounds a bit masochistic, doesn't it.
When physical games will be gone, I wonder what new excuses and "enemies" they find to keep behaving like that and to convince you that it's the right thing to do.

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?

SirLink

Not only I'm loving it, but I also find it addictive. Whenever I don't feel like playing something that demands too much attention, I often start playing this game and I end up on being unable to stop!
I'm trying to collect 3 stars for every grand prix and knockout tours at 150cc, but I also love wandering in the free roam mode and discovering secret challenges, it's relaxing and still stimulates my curiousity.

Nonetheless, I still think that we need some kind of a legacy mode with all the Booster Course Pass + MK8 tracks. There's no need to create a map to connect them all with each other. I mean, I find it unthinkable that, among the NSO subscribers, MK8 owners get that DLC while MKW owners don't.
