Re: Ren & Stimpy Are Getting A 7-Game Retro Collection, Courtesy Of Limited Run

Scposteel

Yet another collection of poor licensed games that LRG is rereleasing for reasons. None of these were ever good, so I don't see anyone really clamoring to grab it. I guess in a sense it is nice that they are getting some sort of rerelease from a preservation standpoint, though once that license lapses they'll be delisted.

At this point we're just waiting on LRG presents the best of Marvel from LJN or the LJN Classic collection with all the licensed goodness you wish you could scour from you memories.

Re: Poll: The Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined Demo Is Now Available, What Are Your First Impressions?

Scposteel

I've stated numerous times that it's not a matter of if, but more a matter of when gaming will go fully digital. Anyone who has done PC gaming has faced this reality for a long time now. Many retailers are phasing out physical games much like dvds and Blue rays. The Game Key Card is a stop gap at best for this inevitability.

As for DQ7, I'll likely get the switch 1 version as I have yet to get a Switch 2 (my rule of thumb is to wait a year after the systems release for any bugs to be worked out).

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Mega Man 6

The NA for me on this one, you can tell there was some care to make this one pop and give a glimpse what you can expect from the game, and showing off the Jet Adapter was a good choice. The JA one to me looks incredibly generic, and lacks personality.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Horror Games

Scposteel

I've become quite a fan of games from Puppet Combo in recent years, with games such as No One Lives Under the Lighthouse, Night at the Gates of Hell, and Bloodwash all being fun and disturbing horror experiences, though they aren't for everyone. Also Faith: The Unholy Trinity is also an amazing horror experience I'm surprised was left off here.

Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?

Scposteel

There are way too many outlining factors that could go into this. For example are we talking AAA titles, than yes you could see where this decline would fall. Also are we discussing physical only, or are we including digital? If we're including digital than one could easily get Indy titles at a lower cost, bumping up the number of games purchased within a year. Then what about bundles? There are times when you could get a bundle of multiple games in one deal. The safe presumption from this article is likely tied to AAA full price games, and not anything else.

Re: Best Virtual Boy Games

Scposteel

It's a shame these titles never got a second life on the 3DS with their virtual console. The system could have brought some of the better titles back, without the headache enducing eye strain the VB presented. Unfortunatly these titles are likely to be forgotten to the sands of time, and really the best way to play the good ones today is with Emulation.

Re: Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster Controversially Cuts War Of The Lions Content

Scposteel

Well, I can't say that I am shocked by this, but I am disappointed. Kind of hard to say this is the definitive version without all the content. Still it is what it is, and something many companies have done for years, not just Squarenix. Hell many of us are still waiting for Castlevania SOTN to get the extra content found in the Saturn version. Will Konami ever do it, no of course not, but that doesn't mean we can't dream of it happening one day.

Re: Nintendo's Switch 2 'Game-Key Cards' Somehow Manage To Make Codes-In-A-Box Worse

Scposteel

Physical Media has been on life support for a long time, in all areas outside of books. As much as a lot of us may not want to accept it, it will eventually go strictly digital. So the question is, when that time comes, will you stop gaming? Do you stop listening to music since CD's are all but extinct. What about movies, do you buy the Blue Ray (if you can find it) or watch it on streaming? Times are changing, and options such as this are delaying the inevitable.

Re: Analyst Fears U.S. Tariffs Could Spell Disaster For Physical Games

Scposteel

Physical Media is on life support across the board. More and more retailers are moving away from it, and so its not so much a matter of if, but when it will be digital only. Movies and Music at this stage are mostly digital with physical being more of a niche commodity. One or two more generations and physical Media will be no more with gaming.

Re: Feature: 33 Games We're Surprised Still Aren't On Switch

Scposteel

There's a few that come to mind that it's a shame it hasn't migrated over to the switch. Two right off the bat are Metroid Samus Returns and Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds are both 3DS exclusives that would easily transition to the Switch. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point we get the Castlevania DS trilogy as well as Mega Man Star Force trilogy on the platform. However if I had to pick one batch of games, ones that like many are trapped on the consoles of their release, it's the vastly underrated Rebirth trilogy that was on the Wii. Castlevania the Adventure, Contra, and Gradius rebirth all need a rerelease of some sort either individual or as a compilation on the switch.

Re: Talking Point: What Would Make You Happy To Give Up Physical Games And Go 100% Digital?

Scposteel

I'm mostly digital these days, however, I do also like to occasionally get physical copies as well. I think the problem with the digital only aspect is the fact that there's that feeling of not having true ownership of what you purchased and companies like Ubisoft enforcing that idea. You add in factors like the Wii Wii u and 3DS eShops closing, and so many of those titles are now lost to time. In order to fully encourage digital, you have to ensure that when you purchase the game, it is yours, you have to have some way of being able to return a game if you don't like it let's say a 30-day grace period. They're also needs to be the option to allow digital purchase to be able to be played on say a family account. Lastly, the digital price needs to be cheaper than a physical. Unfortunately, I don't see any of that happening, at least not in the current landscape.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy A Digital-Only 'Switch 2'?

Scposteel

I'm not opposed to it, especially since in the long run that will be the direction things wind up at eventually. I do think though if companies want to incentivize people towards that route the digital games have to be cheaper than physical. You take out say $5 - $10 and that will make them in general more appealing. I also think though that if you have more than one system (like say a parent and child) having a registered cloud system in place to enable limited sharing should come into play (say max registered systems 3, with a financial penalty to remove systems)

Re: Top 100 Best Nintendo Games Of All Time

Scposteel

The severe (and I do mean severe) lack of NES representation on here is both shocking and disappointing but given the nature of lists like this, I really can't say I'm shocked either. Still it is sad to see so many great franchises not have any sort of representation on here from Mega Man, Castlevania, Chrono Trigger and more. In fact seeing the large amount of DS and Switch games shows how a list (and more specifically the voters) were skewed. I honestly can't say I agree with this list, but at the same time I recognize it for what it is.
