Re: Splatoon 3 Physical Release Bundled With Expansion Pass DLC Announced

I expect there to be a Splatoon 4 in the launch year. Splatoon 3 will be 3 years old at that point and they'll want to get as many Splatoon players as possible to upgrade to the new system.

There was a longer wait between Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3, but I believe that this gap was partially due to the pandemic delaying the development of Splatoon 3.

SEGA/Atlus games drop in price just as fast, if not faster. I’m a massive SEGA fanboy, but I can’t justify buying their games at full price when they’re available for a discount within mere weeks of release. Happened with Sonic Frontiers, SMTV, Persona 5 Royal, etc.

Why should your hypothetical Castlevania collection be a Switch / PC exclusive? If they’re going to port old games, they should bring them to all platforms.

Speaking of exclusives, the current rumour is that a Metal Gear Solid 1 remake is coming exclusively to PS5. If the rumour is true, I’d assume Sony is finding the development.

The waiting list isn’t a guarantee. Hopefully they’ll make more available, but they might not. Even if they do, there’s no guarantee that everyone on the wait list will get to buy a copy.

Consider this scenario. You receive an email at 3AM saying that more copies are available. By the time you’re awake at 8AM, they are already sold out. This scenario is basically what happened with the first batch of copies.

I don’t mean to be too much of a downer. It’s reasonable to be optimistic. But a wait list is far, far from a guaranteed chance to order it.

I think people are freaking out for a couple reasons:

1) $75 is above the standard price for a physical Switch game

2). The physical game is a SquareEnix store exclusive, with high shipping and limited quantities.

Overall, if this was readily available at retail stores, I doubt the $75 price would be considered as big of a deal.

Physical SEGA games seem to go on sale almost immediately these days. Persona 5 Royal, Sonic Frontiers, SMTV, 13 Sentinels and Lost Judgment are all recent examples of this. With that said, these immediate sales seem to be mainly for the physical copies. Since these games are digital-only they may not go on sale as frequently.

I doubt fan gamer would make a physical version of these games. These are games that are published / owned by SEGA, not some small indie studio.

It's possible that SEGA will release a physical version of these games if they sell well (see Sonic Mania for a somewhat recent example), but I wouldn't count on it. Alien Isolation and Valkyria Chronicles are examples of some older SEGA titles that have gotten digital-only Switch ports (and have stayed digital only for years).

Re: Sega Of America Opens New Office In California

@Magician

Almost all of those games are internally-developed by SEGA.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 was made by SEGA.

The Two Point series was made by Two Point Studios which is a SEGA-owned studio.

Total War series and Alien Isolation were made by Creative Assembly which SEGA has owned since 2005.

The only externally developed games on your list are Sonic Mania and Demon Slayer. Which goes back to my original point that SEGA/Atlus are more developers than they are publishers.

What are some great SEGA and Atlus published games that aren’t developed by SEGA or Atlus? The only ones that come to mind for me are 13 Sentinels and Persona 5 Strikers. Most SEGA and Atlus games are internally developed.
