Re: Talking Point: Why Metroid Dread Will Be Worth $60

RushDawg

It's a bit premature to say this game will be "worth " $60. We don't know if it'll be good yet!

Nintendo's mishandled the Metroid franchise before. Remember Other: M? On paper it sounded like a dream Metroid game developed by Team Ninja. What we got was something....less.

Mercury Steam has also released sequels that are much worse than their predecessors (see the Castlevania Lord of Shadows series).

Don't get me wrong, Samus Returns was really good and this will hopefully be great, but it's way too soon to say a game "will be worth $60" before it's even finished. That kind of talk leads to disappointment.

Re: Rumour: Sega Will Re-Release Sonic 3 & Knuckles In A New Sonic Collection

RushDawg

@robr

That’s highly, highly unlikely. SEGA releases Genesis games that sold a lot worse than Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles all the time.

Take a look at the recent Genesis Collection on Switch or the Genesis Mini. Both collections had games like Space Harrier 2, Virtua Fighter 2, Toejam & Earl, etc. Do you really think SEGA is excluding a Sonic game over any of those titles due to sales numbers. That would make no sense.

Then again, SEGA does things that make no sense all the time (like keeping Yakuza off the Switch because a Japan-only Wii U game sold poorly, the 32X, etc.) so you could be right after all.

Re: Konami Is Bringing GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon To Switch In 2022

RushDawg

@Rika_Yoshitake

You're ridiculous.

Everyone knows Konami makes way more than MGS. Also, anyone who's even half paying attention can tell that Konami is a pale, pale shadow of their former selves.

Forget MGS for a moment, remember Castlevania, Gradius, Suikoden, Silent Hill, Boktai, Zone of the Enders, Goemon, Track & Field, etc., etc. , etc.? Because Konami doesn't make games in those popular series anymore.

Re: Best Nintendo DS RPGs

RushDawg

Golden Sun Dark Dawn was a real snooze fest. Your party characters talked WAY too much while actually saying very little and there was zero challenge to any of the battles.

Re: Octopath Traveler Is No Longer A Nintendo Switch Console Exclusive

RushDawg

@AcridSkull

That's a nice thought, but the game was published by Nintendo in North America and Europe and Nintendo doesn't know the meaning of the term hefty discount.

For proof of this, take a look at pricing on Dragon Quest XIS on PS4/Xbox/PC compared to Switch. The Switch version came out first and is much more expensive than the newer PS4/Xbone/PC releases. Why? Because Nintendo doesn't do discounts like the rest of the industry.

Re: Switch Is Now Nintendo's Second Best-Selling System In The US, In "Tracked History"

RushDawg

@UltimateOtaku91

I agree with your general point that Nintendo tends to screw up their follow-up to a successful system.

With that said, I fund it funny that you consider the 64 a beast. I consider it a flop after the successful SNES. SNES was the best selling console of its generation, emerging victorious after some fierce competition from the mighty Genesis. The SNES also had fantastic third party support.

The N64 on the other hand got its butt kicked by the PS1, which outsold it by around 3 to 1. The N64 also had terrible third party support.

Don't get me wrong, the N64 had some great games, but it definitely didn't feel like a 'beast' in the late 90's.

Re: Review: Gnosia - A Deceptively Deep Experience Hiding Behind A Simple Premise

RushDawg

@Bliquid

Dreamcast and Vita don't belong in the same breath. Dreamcast had a killer lineup of exclusives, pioneered online play for consoles and ultimately faded away too quickly.

Vita on the other hand, flopped on arrival, lacked decent exclusives and was only known for niche / indie titles for most of its life.

Don't get me wrong, I love both the Dreamcast and the Vita, but the Vita was way less impactful to the broader industry than the Dreamcast was.

Re: Nintendo Demands More Damages In Colopl Lawsuit, Now Suing For A Cool $47 Million

RushDawg

@Yosher

I am not sure how these things work in Japan, but if it is anything like the USA, Colopl would be a limited liability corporation and it would be the corporation, not the individual developers, who would owe Nintendo the money. If the corporation couldn’t afford to pay, it would declare bankruptcy and the individual owners of the company would not be liable for the company’s debt to Nintendo.

Anyways, I am not a lawyer and certainly not a Japanese lawyer, but I sincerely doubt the owners of Colopl will have to pay Nintendo back personally. Either the company will pay or the company will go under (assuming Nintendo wins of course).

Re: Feature: Best Wii U Games

RushDawg

@Little_Squee

Who said the Wii U has more original games than the Switch? That's a factually incorrect statement.

Also, they call the Wii U a flop because it sold incredibly poorly. It's objectively a sales flop.

Re: Konami's Anniversary Collections On The Switch eShop Are Currently 75% Off (US)

RushDawg

@Severian

The arcade collection is a real mixed bag, with some of the games bordering on bad (though even the Castlevania collection has a bad game too).

With that said, Gradius, Gradius II and Salamander are stone cold classics and might make the collection worth it for those two alone at the discounted price. Think of it as getting Gradius, Gradius II and Salamander for $1.67 each. Does that sound worth it to you?

Re: Random: Sakurai's Nod To Super Mario RPG In His Latest Smash Ultimate Photo

RushDawg

@Bobb

That makes perfect sense. However, it also doesn’t jive with past DLC characters.

Why was Banjo included? How can Nintendo sell Banjo?

Why was Joker included? How could Nintendo sell Joker in early 2019? Was the plan for Joker to sell copies of Persona Q2 later that year on 3DS? That seems unlikely. Maybe they were hoping Joker’s name recognition would sell DLC packs? That’s possible, but Joker is from a very niche series (as is Terry Bogard).

So yeah, I get that Geno isn’t sellable compared to Byleth, but a lot of past DLC characters also weren’t sellable compared to Byleth.

Re: Random: Banjo-Kazooie Creator Reacts To Duo's Bittersweet Cameo In The Latest Smash Trailer

RushDawg

@BoyfriendOfDeath

In theory, yes. The question is how much would it cost and would it be worth it? Nintendo is a business after all and it would only make sense for them to buy Rare (or license Banjo) if they thought there would be a significant return on the investment.

@TDRsuperstar2

Disney owns Spider-Man and all Marvel characters. Sony owns the film rights to Spider-Man for a limited period of time and that is what Disney has “rented”.

Re: Sega Ages Team Reveals The Most Popular Games In The Series

RushDawg

@shonenjump86

Enjoy Phantasy Star 1! It's a true classic. When playing it, please keep in mind that it released almost on the same date as Final Fantasy 1 in Japan (and before Final Fantasy 1 in the West). It's pretty ancient by today's standards but it was groundbreaking for the time.

Really glad you enjoyed PSIV as well, it's the best of the bunch by FAR. Phantasy Star II is another game that was revolutionary for its time, but very, very rough by today's standards. You might want to wait until it gets the Ages treatment before giving it a shot.

PSIII is the black sheep of the series. It has a few neat ideas, but it's entirely skippable.

Re: Sega Ages Team Reveals The Most Popular Games In The Series

RushDawg

I picked up Virtua Racing, Phantasy Star and Lightening Force.

Overall, I was pretty underwhelmed by the SEGA Ages line with Virtua Racing and Phantasy Star being the exceptions. It really didn't help that SEGA hyped up the Ages line by claiming that Dreamcast and Saturn releases were possible (like they did with SEGA Forever on mobile).

It's also a real shame that Arcade 1-Up gets games like Outrunners and Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder (if you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a cabinet). Why didn't these games get an Ages port?

Re: Konami's Gradius II Blasts Its Way Onto The Switch eShop This Week

RushDawg

I wonder how many people asking for Gradius III have only played the SNES version? The original arcade version is almost impossible to beat and is considered a bit of a black sheep in the series. Gradius II is WAY better than III (although I do agree that the Konami Collection makes this latest release somewhat redundant).

Re: More Legend Of Heroes: Trails Of Cold Steel Games Are Coming To Switch

RushDawg

@Krull

That doesn’t really answer my question though, since there isn’t a licensing issue in Japan. Why didn’t Japan get parts 1 & 2 first or simultaneously with the release of part 3? Not that it really matters anymore, it’s just a very odd way to port these games to Switch.

As for licensing issues in the West, XSEED, Nis and Falcon figured out how to make it work on the PS4 and I’m confident they’ll come to a similar agreement for the Switch.

Re: Brunswick Corporation Elects Reggie Fils-Aimé To Board Of Directors

RushDawg

@Joeynator3000 @Diddy64 @HotGoomba

He's a Director on several boards. While being a Director has important responsibilities and does involve some work, it's not a full time job. It's fairly common for executives with his level of experience sit on several boards (sometimes in addition to having a full time CEO job).

@Creature @Kalteas

Being on a board of directors definitely isn't a full time job, but it's also not zero work. Being a director involves making big decisions for a business and also carries a fiduciary responsibility.

Re: Feature: Every 3D Sonic The Hedgehog Game Ranked

RushDawg

There should be a huge asterisk next to this article's title. This is hardly a ranking of every 3D Sonic game when it is missing the PS3/360/PC version of Sonic Generations. Generations is always ranked near the top of 3D Sonic titles, with many considering it to be the best overall.

@Strictlystyles
I really enjoy SA1, but this ranking is notably for the GC version of SA1, which is an inferior port. I'd personally rank Colors above all versions of SA1, but I'd rank the DC original SA1 much closer to it than the inferior GC port.

Re: Random: Microsoft Shuts Down Rumours That It's Buying Sega Next

RushDawg

@MrGawain

Microsoft and SEGA do have a history together. They worked very closely before and after the launch of the original Xbox.

Since then though, there hasn’t been too much cooperation between the two companies. Yakuza remained a PlayStation exclusive until very recently and very few Atlus games ever make it to Xbox.

If I had to guess though, I’d say the rumours were at least somewhat fueled by the past close relationship SEGA and Microsoft has.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles

RushDawg

@ShadJV

Not counting All-Stars isn’t really fair.

And as I said before, if RPGs are your thing, then the SNES Classic definitely has the better lineup.

If you’re not big on RPGs though, it really does become debatable. Demon’s Crest and Wild Guns are two of the best action games on the SNES. You’re definitely not giving them enough credit. Panel de Pon is another game you’re totally underrating. It’s the best puzzle game on SNES; arguably a Top 10 SNES game.

Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles

RushDawg

@Level_Up

If you’re an RPG fan, the SNES Classic is definitely better. SNES Online has better shmups, puzzle games, sports titles and arguably better action games.

@TG16_IS_BAE

Don’t be ridiculous. I was obviously comparing official lineups between the SNES Classic and SNES Online.

If you want to bring hacking into it, the SNES Classic isn’t anything special with its limited storage. Better off with a Rapsberry Pi.

Re: Feature: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Gives Our Beloved Champions A Second Chance

RushDawg

@marandahir

I did, yes. I kind of grew out of Star Wars, as all of the shows, prequels, sequels, etc. detracted from, instead of enhanced, my enjoyment of the original trilogy.

Regarding prequels, of course they can be done well, but they can also be done poorly. Breath of the Wild was a standalone story (and not a particularly great one either). Do I need to know every little detail of the past events BotW's story hinted at? Not at all. As I've said, I'd prefer to leave some things to my imagination. I love a good mystery, which is why games like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus really resonate with me. I'd hate if they made a prequel to SotC that sucked all of the mystery out of that game's world.

And don't get me started on the whole "Zelda timeline". As a franchise, Zelda absolutely doesn't need a timeline. Yes, some games obviously connect like Ocarina and Majora's Mask. With that said, I don't need to know how Breath of the Wild connects to say, Minish Cap. I'm happy to enjoy those games as standalone experiences.

@71nk0

I strongly disagree. Attack of the Clones was a terrible film. I liked it better when the "Clone Wars" (the event, not the show) was open to our imagination. Not every story needs to be told. It's ok to leave things to the audience's imagination.
