You have to select “Online” from the main menu. From there, you can choose from 4 titles.
You can create a lobby or join a lobby. If you a lobby it will be with randoms. If you create a lobby you can play with randoms or make it private and invite your friends.
For someone who is bragging about their math knowledge, you might want to double check yours. Firstly, this wasn’t a $60 game. It was a $50 one. So right off the bat, that brings your $30 mil figure down to $25 mil.
Next, Square Enix actually doesn’t get 100% of the $25 mil in revenue. If it’s a digital sale, Nintendo takes a cut. If it’s a physical sale, the retailer and distributor take a cut. Square Enix probably only got around $30 per physical copy.
So that $30 mil figure you threw out there is probably closer to $20 mil or so depending on the ratio of digital to physical sales.
Still, they’re obviously happy about having sold 500k copies given that the way they’re publishing these numbers.
They say that it “works like a charm” but a lot of people have been complaining about the game becoming unplayable with more than 2 players online. Complaints about the online are all over the internet, across all versions.
My experience with the online has been awful. Every single time a 3rd player joins in the arcade game or Turtles in Time the game turns into an unplayable slideshow. In its present state, the game plays much worse than the Capcom Beat ‘em Up Bundle online; a game which was heavily criticized for its online play.
I am a huge fan of the Switch SEGA Ages port of Phantasy Star. It features pretty much all of the QOL improvements I’d want to see in a HD 2D PS1. That said, it still has 8-bit graphics and sound; I’d love to see Phantasy Star in modern HD 2D.
Frankly, Phantasy Star 2 needs a HD 2D remake (or a SEGA Ages version) more than the first game. The original version of Phantasy Star 2 is much rougher than the original version of Phantasy Star 1 (though I’d argue 2 has more potential for greatness if it’s issues are fixed).
As for the PS2 remakes of these games, yeah, it does suck a little that we missed out on these. However, the PS2 versions are low budget, cheap looking games without much in the way of QOL improvements. Phantasy Star as a series deserves better; it deserves the big budget HD 2D treatment.
Some of these games are arguably close to perfect already.
My vote is for a pixel remaster of Phantast Star 1 & 2. Both games have some great ideas and features, but are severely held back by antiquated design. These games need a top notch remake with QOL improvements much more than, say, Chrono Trigger.
I love Konami's classic series as much as the next guy, but this is modern Konami we're talking about.
In early 2018, if I told you Konami was making a new Contra game, you might have gotten excited. But we all know how that turned out; Contra Rogue Corps was awful!
A new Goemon, Gradius, Suikoden, Sparkster, etc. all sound great on paper, but do you trust modern Konami to do it justice?
I have a hard time even getting to levels of cautious optimism for anything other than a retro compilation from modern Konami given their track record.
Hyperstone Heist, Manhattan Project and the 1989 arcade game are all basically the same as Turtles in Time. Wouldn’t call any of them bad. By 90’s beat ‘em up standards, they are way above average and hold up about as well as an early
90’s beat ‘em up can.
Genesis and NES Tournament Fighters are above average fighters by the standards of the console. Neither holds up well at all, but I wouldn’t call them bad either. They are competently made products of their time.
The same is true for the platforming games. They’re all at least above average compared to other platform games of the era. Compare Fall of the Foot Clan to just about any GameBoy platforming game and it comes off looking pretty good. None have aged all that well, but they’re still not bad, just products of their time.
Almost none of the games are terrible, especially when judged by the standards of the time. Not all of them hold up great by today’s standards, but the beat ‘em up titles were amongst the genre’s best at the time of release.
The non beat ‘em up games are hit and miss, but are at the very least above average. Even the first NES game is better than most licensed NES platformers, in spite of all of its issues.
Yes, every game changes throughout development, but RE4 went through a particularly long and varied development. Its development famously spun off the Devil May Cry series. Most game development doesn't result in a major spin off franchise.
This article contains an error. It says that RE4 made "its way to what felt like every console in existence". How can that be when my GameCube copy says that it's "Only for" GameCube? Please correct this error immediately.
There are some remakes/ports, but there's lots of new stuff too. Triangle Strategy, Harvestella, Diofield Chronicles, Dragon Quest Treasures, etc. are all new.
Live a Live is also a high effort remake and new to Western audiences, so I don't really count it as a simple port.
I’ve been playing Metroid since the 80’s. The first two Metroid games weren’t great and had a lot of flaws. They were very interesting though and dripping with atmosphere (especially the NES game).
Metroid didn’t hit its stride until Super Metroid which we all know is a masterpiece.
That'd coincide with the launch of BotW 2, more or less. I expect BotW 2 will be a simultaneous release on both the original Switch and the "Switch 2" (just like the original BotW).
It’s a cool new mode, but it appears to be limited to Splatfests, which ultimately limits how often players can enjoy it. New modes are great, but when you can only play them once a month or so, they’re limited in their value to the overall package.
Unfortunately, retro compilations rarely include third party titles, so I don't see SEGA releasing this lineup as a cart. That said, you could come pretty close to the Genesis Mini 1 & 2 lineups (and even expand on them) with:
-Genesis Classics Collection -Contra Collection (has Contra Hard Corps) -Castlevania Collection (has Bloodlines) -Disney Classic Collection (has a bunch of Genesis Disney games) -Cowabunga Collection (will have Hyperstone Heist and Tournament Fighters) -M2 Toaplan Garage Series (have a bunch of Toaplan Genesis shumps)
So there's lots of Genesis games to be had on Switch carts if that's what you're looking for.
They kind of did already? Check out the Genesis Classics Collection cart on Switch. It's got a huge chunk of the games listed here (and on the Genesis Mini 1).
Short answer is yes. There’s nothing mind blowing here and it looks like even less of a jump than Splatoon 1 to Splatoon 2 was, but there’s definitely enough here to justify the game’s existence.
@chardir It’s just bad optics to announce paid DLC before a game even launches. This is especially true if the base game is unfinished (for lack of a better word) and we don’t know what content will be coming with the free updates and what content will be behind a paywall.
We also don’t know if it changes the overall value at this point, because we don’t know what the free updates will be nor do we know what the paid DLC will be. Is the DLC going to be single player stuff like Octo Expansion? Or is it gonna be like some of the modes that got added on Splatoon 1 / 2 for free like Rainmaker / Clam Blitz? We just don’t know at this point.
Announcing paid DLC before a game launches is always a bad look. It's especially true in this case, as many are actively questioning if Splatoon 3 is enough of an improvement over 2.
Don't get me wrong, I think paid DLC for Splatoon 3 could be great, but the focus for now should be on wowing us with the base game.
I was actually kind of skeptical! The Wii/PS2 had a Neo Geo collection that never received a volume 2, which made me think maybe we wouldn’t get a volume 2. Happy to be wrong about this one.
Digital Eclipse did the same thing for the Street Fighter Collection; only some of the SF games got online play, most didn’t. It wasn’t a dealbreaker on that collection for me and it’s not a dealbreaker for the TMNT collection either. That said, I agree, it’s a bit of a bummer that all of the multiplayer games didn’t get online play.
PS2 also got some exclusive SEGA games like Virtua Fighter, Shinobi and of course, Yakuza.
SEGA oddly spread their releases across all 3 consoles that generation. Made for some fun games exclusives for each console, but I don’t think it was especially successful business wise.
Looks great! With that said, given that this is a Ubisoft game, there’s no way I am buying this at full price. Will pick it up for 50% off or more sometime in 2023.
Unlike you or I, this leaker actually has a successful track record.
Could they have gotten lucky in the past? Sure. Could this rumour be 100% fabrication and speculation? Of course.
With that said, given this leaker's track record, it's reasonable for NintendoLife to post this as a rumour. Gaming publications have been reporting on rumours for as long as there have been gaming publications.
You might be right, but I gotta figure it’s very close to finished at this point. Just a little more than 3 months before release date and manufacturing/distribution of physical copies and sending digital codes to reviewers will probably happen weeks before the official release date too. That and the file size is in the ballpark of the other 2 Bayo games, so it’s probably correct, more or less.

All joking aside, Sqaure Enid’s 2022 lineup is amazing. You’d have to go back to the late 90’s to find a better lineup.
Triangle Strategy, Live a Live, Tactics Ogre, Harvestella, Diofield Chronicles, Dragon Quest Treasures, FF Pixel Remasters, new Star Ocean, etc.
