Nintendo published Octopath and Dragon Quest XI S; both came to Game Pass.

I am a huge Splatoon fan and a huge physical collector, but I think I am going to go digital this time. I want Splatoon 3 always ready to launch on my Switch.

Cloud gaming is not ideal, but at least with KH3, there is a reasonable argument that the Switch couldn't run the game otherwise (or at least not without significant effort).

Zero excuses for the other cloud games though, some of which could run on the freaking PS2.

For the 3D games, I hope they make a separate collection for them one day. Power Stone, Tech Romancer, Project Justice, etc.

It’s literally 50% Dark Stalkers, plus Dark Stalkers characters show up in a couple of the non-Dark Stalkers games.

Still looks like a great collection though. I love that retro collections have become a thing again.

A lot of these games are available on other platforms like the Ace Attorney games, Kirby’s Adventure, Kid Icarus, the 3D SEGA games, etc.

I am more interested in stuff like Pocket Card Jockey and Crimson Shroud that are true 3DS digital exclusives.

My first thought exactly. Yacht Club Games has been in business for almost 10 years and has been quite successful. One would think that they could fund their own development at this time.

On the other hand, they have a good track record with KickStarter so why not raise some money that why even if they don’t exactly need it?

That's the example I was going to give. It's a third party game, but Nintendo gave their blessing for EA to include a first-party ROM. I wonder what emulator EA used.

With that said, I wonder how much profit CoD, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, etc. generate annually.

$69 billion is an insane amount of money, but presumably Microsoft has done their due diligence before pulling the trigger on this acquisition.

It would make sense for P4G to be on Switch considering that P4Arena is coming to Switch. It would also make sense for P5 to be on Switch considering that P5Strikers is on Switch, but here we are.

This is a great free trial. One could very easily beat the game in its entirety before the trial period is over.

I am a huge Splatoon fan and have logged hundreds of hours into both the original and it’s sequel.

You make an interesting point when comparing Splatoon’s success to other Nintendo franchises. When viewed from that lens, I’d say it’s either at the top of the B-tier or at the very bottom of the A-tier.

With that said, I’d argue it’s more appropriate to compare the success of Splatoon to other online multiplayer shooters. It also comes up short from that perspective, selling way below the likes of CoD, though that’s partially due to Splatoon being limited to a single console.

In any case, I am very hyped for Splatoon 3, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up selling less than Splatoon 2. Splatoon 2 launched in summer 2017 when there really weren’t a lot of Switch games. Splatoon 3 is launching against a lot more competition.

SEGA releases some of the best quality and highest rated games in the entire industry.

This year SEGA released Lost Judgment, Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, Shin Megami Tensei V and Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. All good to great games. There’s much more to SEGA than just Sonic.

Metroid isn’t popular in Japan and Western developed games aren’t popular in Japan (only 6 games on the list are Western developed). It is not at all surprising that a Western developed Metroid game isn’t on the list.

The Valis series was always mediocre. I'm glad that these games are being preserved, but even in the 16-bit days, these weren't anything special.

2022 is looking like a banner year, assuming there are no delays.

Wow, this is an amazing lineup. Unlike the original Astro City Mini, there are far fewer weaker titles in the mix.

I wonder if SEGA plans on releasing a whole bunch of these so that we can all have our own desktop arcade full of candy cabs?

Thunder Force 2 isn't on the SEGA Genesis collection. It's not much of a loss though; only half the game is good.

Calling P3P an enhanced port is a bit misleading. It features several improvements over P3 and P3 FES, but it’s also a downgrade in many ways (missing the Answer content, no overworld, no animated cut scenes, etc.).

I am really curious to see how a remaster of P3P would address these downgrades, if at all (assuming the rumour is true).

I am not the one who started comparing the cost of this service to the cost of purchasing a N64 and cartridges. It was Screen who originally said that it was cheaper to buy an actual N64 and games than it was to purchase a NSO Expansion Pack. I simply pointed out that this was demonstrably false.

Again, go to PriceCharting.com and look at the price of loose cartridges for the Mario games, Zelda games, etc.

They're all $30+. And this ignores the cost of the console itself, controller, expansion pack, etc.

It is not cheaper to play these games on an actual N64. It just isn't.

That is blatantly false. Have you seen the going rate for N64 cartridges? A loose cartridge of Mario Kart 64 alone costs $40.

Counter argument; the D-pad is way too small and awkwardly placed. The C-stick is also too small for certain types of games.

The GC controller is simultaneously amazing and terrible. For the right type of game, there’s nothing better than it. For the wrong type of game though, it’s pretty much unusable (ever tried playing a 2D fighter with a GC controller?).

I can see why Nintendo moved on from this design.

To be fair, that game was developed by an external studio, so maybe SEGA could make a better Monkey Ball Adventure game? That said, I agree that a new Monkey Ball Adventure game probably isn’t on any Monkey Ball fan’s wish list.

Feels like there's a huge opportunity for a developer to create a solid, simulation-style football game for the Switch.

I’d argue TWEWY didn’t need a sequel. It told a complete story. It was also perfectly suited for the DS, gameplay wise and thematically.

I am a huge TWEWY fan but never felt the urge to play Neo.

Did you play the original Final Fantasy Tactics on PS1? It is VERY challenging, at least in the early game.

Wow, definitely didn’t expect this. This is a B-tier Genesis shmup, but it’s still pretty good.

I think it’s fair to say that the Switch is the best shmup console of all time at this point. Who could have predicted that?

UN Squadron is a licensed game, so I don’t see that coming anytime soon.

If we do get licensed games, I’d much rather have stuff like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, Alien vs. Predator and Marvel vs. Capcom.

Looking at the screenshots side by side, I gotta say, the characters in FP1 were MUCH better than the characters in FP2.

Still, what a fantastic effort by Sakurai and his team! Hope they can enjoy a well deserved break.

If so, that's ridiculous and Nintendo shouldn't have included them. The majority of the Genesis games they're offering on the service are already playable on the Switch in the Genesis Collection, SEGA Ages releases, Contra collection, Castlevania collection, etc.

You can’t apply Virtual Console pricing to these subscription services. That argument totally falls apart if you look at how many NES/SNES games were added to the base online service vs. the Virtual Console price of those games. Clearly, Nintendo is not basing the Switch Online service price on Virtual Console prices.

Also, you own Virtual Console games, as opposed to renting them through the Switch Online service.

So no, the price is not objectively correct. Think before you speak.

Yikes. Way too expensive; I’ll be passing on this one. Usually expansion packs are cheaper than the base game/service they build upon. Guess Nintendo didn’t get the memo.

No worries. Truth be told I’d prefer the Metroid list not have the Trilogy competing with the individual titles in the trilogy. Ideally, I’d also like consistency with how all these lists are put together but it’s really not a big deal. Thanks for making the list and have a great weekend.

Fair enough, though it does feel inconsistent that Nintendo Life counts Metroid Prime Trilogy as a separate Metroid game, but Ace Attorney Trilogy doesn’t count as a separate AA game.
