Given that Nintendo Life has declared Metroid Prime Trilogy the best Metroid game, logically, shouldn't they also rate Ace Attorney Trilogy as the best game in the Ace Attorney series?
RGG is clearly the best studio SEGA has had for some time, producing consistently good-to-great titles on a near yearly basis. Losing top talent like this feels like a big loss.
Let’s hope the rest of the RGG team can rise to the challenge of putting out the great titles that fans expect.
To be fair, Adventure was made by an outside studio and not the core Monkey Ball team internal to SEGA. That said, I am not really convinced that a Monkey Ball Adventure game made by anyone could be good.
Adding the SNES version of Aladdin is huge! The SNES and Genesis versions of Aladdin are both great. The Master System version of Aladdin was pretty good too; it’d be cool to see this added.
On the other hand, the Lion King is just ok and the Jungle Book kinda sucks.
Dude, just admit you were wrong. SEGA has already made a great RPG in the Yakuza series with Yakuza 7 and they've also publicly announced that the Yakuza series will continue as a JRPG series. I don't see why SEGA has to "prove" anything at this point and there's no reason to doubt that they'll make another Yakuza RPG (Yakuza sequels are usually iterative).
This looks like a good game, but I'm taking this review with a HUGE grain of salt given the massive banner ad from Eastward on the Nintendolife homepage.
We do know that SEGA will keep Yakuza as a RPG going forward. SEGA themselves have said so.
Historically, Yakuza has been more like an open-world action game, yes. However, Yakuza 7 is 100% a turn-based JRPG. It even has a job system for goodness sake. Doesn't get more JRPG than that.
How come your list excluded Yakuza? The series has gone full turn based JRPG starting with Yakuza 7 and it is one of SEGA’s biggest franchises. Yakuza 8 feels like a very safe bet here.
I also think Splatoon should go multi platform. Never gonna happen, obviously, but I personally feel Splatoon 3 could be a huge success if it was available on everything instead of just the Switch.
Indeed it did. And unfortunately, SEGA concluded that the poor sales of the Japanese-exclusive HD PS2 ports of Yakuza 1 & 2 on the freaking Wii U means that the much, much, much larger Switch audience just isn't interested in Yakuza games. Sigh....
The obvious excuse to include Kiryu over Amigo, Ulala, Billy Hatcher, etc. is that the Yakuza series is much, much more popular and successful than all of those other series combined.
Yakuza gets a new game every year pretty much and it's more popular than ever in the West. Billy Hatcher on the other hand is from a one-game series that hasn't seen a new release (or rerelease) in almost 20 years.
Look at it another way. Adding a character from the popular Sonic and Yakuza series brings attention to this title. Adding a character from the Billy Hatcher or Space Channel 5 series pleases mega SEGA nerds like myself, but really doesn't do much for the broader gaming market.
It was announced waaaay too early and is taking waaaaaay too long, but what makes you say Bayo 3 is vapourware?
Given that we get regular updates from Kamiya (albeit vague ones) and given that they have Bayo 2 to work from as a framework, I’d say Bayo 3 will likely get released in the next couple years.
Metroid Prime 4 seems much more likely to be vapourware to me.
“A mix of new titles, sequels, reimaginings and remasters”
Uhh, there are ZERO new titles listed in the article. They are ALL sequels, though I guess you could call GnG Resurrection a reimagining and Great Ace Attorney a prequel.
Regardless, Capcom is not putting out new IPs anymore and they haven’t for some time. They are absolutely on a roll with their sequels, compilations and HD remasters but I wish they’d take a chance on a new IP or two as well.
Pretty sure the metric for “demand” is sales. If this is a huge sales hit on PC and mobile, management will say “Wow, this was a hit! Let’s port it to Switch/PS4/Xbox”.
If these releases sell poorly on PC and mobile, management will say “Wow, this was a flop! Guess there’s no reason to port this to Switch/PS4/Xbox”
SMT if is clearly the best game being added overall, but it is still very dated and most people wouldn’t have a lot of patience for it even if we did get a translated version in the West (just look at how poorly Persona 1 is regarded over here).
Outside of SMT if, Japan is getting two pretty lame games too.
Overall, yeah, Japan’s titles are better, but this is still a very poor showing for NSO worldwide. I could personally rattle of around 50 games I’d rather see added than any of these titles.
SEGA management: “Not enough people bought Sonic 1 and Space Harrier for the millionth time, guess there’s no point in releasing Revenge of Death Adder or those Saturn & Dreamcast games we teased our fans about”
You’re barking up the wrong tree. Hamster has never released a SEGA game to my knowledge. SEGA has released a bunch of arcade ports to Switch, but unfortunately their SEGA AGES line is over.
Don’t forget Strange Journey Redux and Soul Hackers.
In addition to the MegaTen games, Atlus RPGs in general are going to get very, very expensive when the 3DS eShop closes down. I’d recommend people look into grabbing the Etrian Odyssey games, Persona Q games and Radiant Historia (hopefully there’ll be a few more Atlus eShop sales).
The 3DS Dragon Quest games have also gotten quite expensive recently, so don’t sleep on those digital versions either.
There’s also a lot of digital only 3DS games like Phoenix Wright Dual Destines and Spirit of Justice that’ll just be gone when the eShop closes.
Overall, the 3DS eShop closing so soon is a huge bummer.
If they’re not charging more for games, I’d say they have a fantastic chance of success. Exclusive games plus great exclusive streaming content would be a great combo in the increasingly competitive streaming world.
If they charge a separate or increased fee for games, then yeah, I’d say their chances of success are pretty low.
It’s been rumoured that Sony has some sort of exclusivity deal for the mainline Persona games which I honestly kinda believe at this point. How else do you explain Persona 5, a 5-year old PS3 game, not being ported to Switch at this point?
I hope I am wrong but I am also not gonna get my hopes up too high.
Anyways, I predict the final “project” revealed is Persona 6. The rest will be ports, spin-offs and maybe an anime or something.
Super Metroid is one of a handful of games that belongs in the conversation for best game of all-time. It is an absolute masterpiece and is still the template that most modern Metroidvanias try to live up to.
Super Metroid is so great that it cast a long shadow over the rest of the series and really the entire genre. Nothing has quite matched up to it since. Metroid Prime and Zero Mission came pretty darn close though.
Valkyria has always had low sales. Hasn’t stopped them from making 4 mainline games and a spin-off in a little over 10 years. Seems pretty alive to me. Compared to most SEGA IPs, that’s positively thriving.
I’ll admit I didn’t know about the Sakura gacha shutting down since I don’t really care about Sakura.
What makes you think either of those series is dead? Valkyria Chronicles 4 came out in 2018 and a new Sakura Wars came out in 2020. Those series sound prettt active to me.
It's a bit premature to say this game will be "worth " $60. We don't know if it'll be good yet!
Nintendo's mishandled the Metroid franchise before. Remember Other: M? On paper it sounded like a dream Metroid game developed by Team Ninja. What we got was something....less.
Mercury Steam has also released sequels that are much worse than their predecessors (see the Castlevania Lord of Shadows series).
Don't get me wrong, Samus Returns was really good and this will hopefully be great, but it's way too soon to say a game "will be worth $60" before it's even finished. That kind of talk leads to disappointment.
And if we’re talking about a “complete” 2D Sonic collection, there’s a lot more games than that like the Master System/Game Gear games, the Neo Geo Pocket Color game, DS games, etc.
That’s highly, highly unlikely. SEGA releases Genesis games that sold a lot worse than Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles all the time.

Re: Hackers Have Cracked Open A Sega Saturn Emulator Inside A Commercial Switch Release
This is pretty cool, but SEGA has been ignoring Saturn rereleases for years now. I doubt this release will change that.
Even the Saturn game we do see the ocassional rerelease of, like Nights and Sonic R, are typically based on a PC version, not the Saturn original.

Re: Want A New Castlevania Game? You Need To Make Yourself Heard, Says Konami Director
Everyone wants a new Castlevania, but how many of us want one made by present day Konami?
Contra Rogue Corps, an internally developed title, is a textbook example of “be careful what you wish for”.
If Konami does choose to make a new ‘Vania title, hopefully they’ll outsource it to a competent studio with experience in the genre.
