I'm a PS5 owner. Why would Bayo 3 getting a release date make me feel sick?
Bayo 3 will be a great experience for me before I play GoW Ragnarok. Plus I'll be playing Resident Evil 4 Remake, Street Fighter 6, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 and Final Fantasy 16 on my PS5 next year. Lots to look forward to.
It's not 1994 anymore. Leave this silly console wars stuff in the past where it belongs and let people enjoy games for whatever platform or platforms they own.
Sorry Elden Ring wasn't your cup of tea. I personally loved Kirby as well, though it hasn't captured me the way Elden Ring has.
Putting our personal opinions aside though, surely you agree that Elden Ring is almost certainly going to sweep the Game of the Year awards this year. Nintendo just doesn't have a "big" game o the same level as Elden Ring this year.
They really haven't. Elden Ring captured the broader gaming community in a way that no other Nintendo game this year has come close to. Heck, you'd have to go back to 2017 with Breath of the Wild (and maaaaaybe Super Mario Odyssey) to see a Nintendo game that had the kind of impact Elden Ring had.
Elden Ring is pretty much a lock for Game of the Year 2022 and no Nintendo game this year will be a serious contender.
It's cool if Elden Ring isn't for you (no game is for everyone), but looking at things objectively, Nintendo doesn't have any games on the same level as Elden Ring this year.
I was referring to the characters from the Devil May Cry games. I’m embarrassed to admit, I never made the connection to Dante’s Inferno until you pointed it out. Looks like I need to read more and game less!
It’s possible that they’re going back to 2020 style announcements with partner directs and random announcements for first party titles (e.g. Paper Mario).
With that said, my money is on there being a September Direct, where Bayo 3 will get a release date.
We need more 20ish hour RPGs! Too many RPGs are major time commitments which a lot of people just don’t have time for. For example, Persona 5 Royal is incredible, but it’s also like 120 hours. A lot of people just aren’t up for games of that length. 20 hours feels much more manageable though.
My best guess is that thinkhector is referring to the Sonic Origins collection. Kind of weird to bring up a Sonic collection as an argument for why a Cosmic Fantasy/Valis collection might be better than a TMNT collection, but here we are.
PS - Sonic Origins collection has a ton of issues too.
They could actually do the same thing they did with Wii U to the Switch and have it work out ok, provided that the Switch is still getting strong third party support.
In 2016, the Wii U got Twilight Princess HD, Star Fox, Pokken, Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Paper Mario with heavy hitters like Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey being held back for the Switch. The Wii U had a pretty weak 2016 first party lineup, but it would have been “good enough” if it had the amount of third party support the Wii U was getting in a typical year.
@DarkTron She works in the industry, she’s a lot more in the know than you and I. She didn’t t hear it from Nintendo directly, true, but she heard it from someone who she was clearly confident would be telling the truth / would know for sure.
Could she be wrong? Sure. But she has contacts in the industry and doesn’t have a reputation for spreading fake rumours.
Overall, considering that NintendoLife made it clear in the article that this is a rumour and unconfirmed, I really see no issue with them publishing this.
Those mini consoles are also all emulating less powerful hardware and were manufactured before a global chip shortage. SEGA themselves have said a DC mini would be too expensive; it’s in the interview we’re commenting on. Really not sure why you don’t believe them and think they’re “just making excuses”. They have access to much more info than you do on the topic.
“Streets of Rage had to substitute” for Mega Drive /Genesis owners? The Streets of Rage series was overall better than the Final Fight series and SoR 2 is the best game in either series by a considerable margin.
If you follow SEGA closely, you’ll see that they have a pattern of teasing Saturn and Dreamcast games as a possibility without actually delivering.
It happened when they launched the SEGA Forever mobile phone service and said Saturn and Dreamcast games were totally possible.
It happened again when the SEGA AGES line of games launched on Switch and they told us that Saturn and Dreamcast games might release as part of that line.
Personally, I wouldn’t hold my breath for a Mini Saturn or Dreamcast.
Mid life doesn’t mean that a successor can’t launch before the end of its life.
The mid life claim was in 2021; 4 years after the Switch launched. Suppose a Switch 2 launches next year and the Switch 1 still gets support until 2025. That would mean the Switch would have an 8 year life and the mid life claim would be true, even with the Switch 2 launching before the end of the Switch’s life.
Look at the 3DS for a recent example. The Switch launched in 2017 and the 3DS still got first party games until 2019. I can totally see the same thing happening with the Switch and the Switch 2.
We’ll see. Those are some good points worth considering , but there are a lot of signs pointing to the Switch successor coming out soon too.
2023 would be 6 years after the Switch launched. How many Nintendo systems went more than 6 years before the launch of their successor? Not many of them.
As for the Switch being at the mid point of its life, that doesn’t mean a successor isn’t on the way. For example, the 3DS stayed alive for a couple years after the Switch launched. The Switch 2 could launch next year and the Switch 1 could be kept alive until 2025 making the “mid point” claim true.
Bottom line is this though: you and I don’t work at Nintendo and we’re not insiders. Therefore, neither of us is in a position to say with 100% certainty whether the Switch 2 will launch next year. My money is on yes, but I fully admit I could be wrong. You should show a little humility and be open to the possibility that you are incorrect too (especially because you don’t actually know).
They’ll be a free upgrade to people who own the PS4 version, but they’ll also be a new paid SKU for people who don’t own a previous version of the game. So yeah, they count.
Are you familiar with publicly trading companies? Investors and shareholders want ever increasing sales and profits. Shareholders aren't satisfied with "sales that are a little lower than before, but still good". Regular people might be satisfied with this, but publicly traded companies are not. That's just how it is.
If sales are down, it makes perfect logical sense to think that Nintendo will launch a new console to sell as much as possible.
They’re decent strategy games, but are a totally different genre from the other R-Type games. No guarantees you’ll like them just because you liked Dimensions.
It’s got the best core gameplay of any version of MGS3, for sure. Performance wise, it has a terrible frame rate. It’s also missing a lot of extras that pretty much every other version of the game has.
It’s overall an interesting version of MGS3, with a lot going for it. However, it’s missing way too much and has too many technical issues to be called the best version.
It’s both an awful port and a great port. Adding the crouch walk and simplified CQC from later MGS titles makes the gameplay a lot smoother. So in some ways, it’s the best playing version of MGS3.
On the other hand, the frame rate is terrible and it’s missing the majority of the extras and bonuses found in pretty much every other release of MGS3, with the exception of the original, non-subsistence PS2 version.
Overall, I’d say it’s a fascinating port more than anything.
Just realized that the launch date of September 9 coincides with the Dreamcast's famous US launch date of 9/9/99.
It's just a coincidence, but Splatoon has always felt a bit like a modern Dreamcast game with its art style and music. The game has some definite Jet Set Radio vibes to it.
I was thinking the same thing regarding Xenoblade 3 and Splatoon 3 swapping release dates. Splatoon sells a lot more than Xenoblade, so they probably wanted it as part of their fall lineup now that they no longer have Zelda this year.
Also, as far as the poll goes, Panzer Dragoom Saga is the objectively correct choice. It is by far the least accessible and most expensive game on the list.
This was a fun article but I gotta be that guy and say that FFTA was never a classic and was a big downgrade from the original game. We should be asking about when FFT will come to the Switch. FFTA should be part of a GBA Switch Online service, at best.

A low power PC costs more than $75 and that’s without controllers, licensing costs for third party games, etc.
DC emulation is totally doable but the whole point of a mini console is to be cheap. A lot of people wouldn’t buy a $250 mini for example.

If you’re on the fence, I’d recommend waiting. SEGA/Atlus games go on sale quickly and frequently. See SMTV as a recent example of this.
