Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo Switch Lite - Half A Switch, But That's More Than Enough For Some

@Xelha

How could any review meaningfully address the possibility of drift at this time beyond mention it as a possibility.

The Switch Lite is brand new, we don't know if Nintendo has implemented some fix "under the hood" that will eliminate drift or if it will drift just as bad as joy cons over time.

I'm personally going to hold off on the Switch Lite until some time has passed to see if drifting issues emerge. With that said, I absolutely don't fault Nintendo Life for not having the answer as to whether or not the Switch Lite will drift at this time.

Prime 2 was a big step backwards. The dark world was a real slog for most of the adventure and too many bosses were located pretty far from the nearest save point. That's just bad design.

I actually found Prime 1's platforming enjoyable and pretty generous, so to each their own.

Skies is a wonderful classic JRPG that feels like a 16-bit classic with a 128-bit coat of paint. The game has a colourful cast of characters and a unique, charming world that is fun to explore.

With that said, the encounter rate is atrocious. You get in random battles constantly, including when you're flying your airship. A HD remake that tweaked the encounter rate / sped up battles would be an easy 9/10. As is, it is still a worthwhile play through if you can tolerate constant random battles.

Metroid Prime is much, MUCH better than Prime 2.

Pikmin 1 vs. Pikmin 2 is debatable since they're very different, but I can definitely respect ranking Pikmin 2 over 1.

Re: Intense Bullet Hell Shmup Ghost Blade HD Scores October Switch Release

@Realness

The vast majority of vertically scrolling shmups use Tate monitor dimensions and therefore letterbox on TVs, (especially modern TVs with a 16 x 9 aspect ratio). This is pretty standard for the genre.

In fact, the only vertically scrolling shmup I know of that fills up a 16 x 9 widescreen TV is Under Defeat HD on the PS3 / 360.

Re: Rumour: Fortnite Might Be Getting A Splatoon Crossover, According To Data Miner

Fortnite is an example of free-to-play done right. All premium content is purely cosmetic and offers no gameplay advantages. There also aren't any timers that arbitrarily restrict the amount you can play. Plus you can earn some in-game cosmetic upgrades for free (granted you need to put a ton of time into it).

Obviously, a lot of people still spend way too much on the game, but it doesn't seem all that exploitative compared to most mobile games.

Re: Aladdin And The Lion King Are Reportedly Being Remastered For Switch

RushDawg

This is great news. It once again shows that Disney is willing to provide the necessary licenses to rerelease their old games. Recently we've seen:

-Capcom's Disney Afternoon Collection
-Castle/World of Illusion on the Genesis/Mega Drive Mini
-And now the Aladdin/Lion King Collection

With that said, I'm not particularly interested in revisiting these games. They were decent for their time, but were always a case of graphics over gameplay.

Re: Super Monkey Ball Revival Looks Even More Likely As Taiwanese Rating Appears

RushDawg

I'm cautiously optimistic. The last "console" Monkey Ball game on Vita was decent, but still a far cry from the greatness of the two GameCube originals.

In fact, the trajectory of the series quality has been straight downwards over the years.

That said, SEGA does now how to make good games still, so if they truly put in the effort with this one, it could turn out wonderfully.

Re: Feature: It's Time To Lay Down Your ARMS

RushDawg

I had great fun with ARMS and am glad I got to experience it. That said, any success ARMS had was largely due to when it released, since the Switch library was pretty barren then as the author points out.

If it came out today, ARMS would likely only sell a fraction of what it did.

Re: Mega Drive Mini Games List: All 42 Titles Revealed

@Wavey84

Agreed. Eternal Champions and Virtua Fighter 2 are arguably outright bad. Kid Chameleon is decent, but it's nowhere near as good as Ristar, Rocket Knight Adventures or Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Light Crusader is another one I could have done without. The rest of the new games are pretty good, but largely underwhelming compared to what's already been announced. I honestly thought they were saving a big reveal for the final 10 games. Looks like I was wrong.

Re: All Those amiibo On Your Shelf? You Can't Use Them In Super Mario Maker 2

RushDawg

Super Mario Maker 1 released in 2015 which was basically the peak of the amiibo craze.

In 2019, amiibos are pretty niche and you have to go out of your way to find new ones (they were everywhere in 2015).

A post release patch is possible, but I doubt Nintendo would bother. I'm sure they have the numbers to show that people aren't buying amiibos anymore. Why bother adding in a function that most people can't enjoy?

@PBandSmelly

You're joking right? SEGA's recently released Yakuza 6, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Puyo Puyo Champions and Sonic Mania. There's tons of great stuff coming from SEGA these days.

The problem with the Monkey Ball series is that the director (Toshihiro Nagoshi) of the GameCube games is the same person who is currently directing the Yakuza series (SEGA's best and most consistent modern series). Clearly Nagoshi's focus is elsewhere these days.
