Re: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order File Size Revealed

PorllM

I highly doubt there are any Switch owners who play digital games and don't have an SD card already, unless they're very recent adopters - and those people can get a chunky SD card for next to nothing these days.

This is a complete non issue and has been for a long time.

I got a 200GB one for £40 at the Switch launch, have over 40 digital games, more retail than smaller games, and it hasn't come close to being filled.

Re: Panic Button Studio Head Adam Creighton Steps Down, Moving On To Something New

PorllM

@jufonuk Makes sense at first but when you think about it, not really.

Panic Button are currently being paid by devs to bring their games to Switch and doing an incredible job of it, without Nintendo needing to pay a penny.

Devs know Switch is popular, they know Panic Button are experts are porting to Switch, so they call them up, allowing games to come to Switch when the original studio doesn't have the resources or manpower to do it themselves, bringing us games we could potentially never have otherwise.

If Nintendo bought Panic Button, they'd have to either keep hiring it out to third party devs in the same way, which would likely change very little about the studios output while increasing Nintendo's risk factor, or use them as their own 2nd party porting studio, which would involve spending even more money to get the rights to the games they wanted to port.

Not to mention some of those third party IP holders might have been capable and willing to do the ports themselves, but would rather let Nintendo take care of it, so now they are paying through the nose for games they would have gotten anyway.

The likelihood if Nintendo bought Panic Button is that they would just started porting Wii U and Wii games to switch before long lmao.

Which could be great but, not better than constantly pumping out high quality third party Switch ports without Nintendo needing to do a thing or spend a penny, like they are now.

Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd May (Europe)

PorllM

@xanderten50 The above says £2.29 for people who have bought the devs previous games but doesn't give the normal price.

Assume it's 50% off and if you don't own the previous games, it's what you said.

Re: Review: YIIK: A Postmodern RPG - EarthBound For A New Generation

PorllM

@CharlieSmile That's a little unreasonable. I do understand where you're coming from, I'm a feminist myself, we need to be aware of diversity and representation more than ever, and we definitely need the option of either gender whenever the game allows, just like we do with transgender, people of colour, and more. But a huge percentage of games are based around a specific plotline, and can only work with the specific character the plot was written about. For example, Assassins Creed Syndicate allows you to choose a male character or a female character, because they are both characters in the story so to do so changes very little. Other stories, the main character is just a template for the player, so you can also choose male or female without causing issues. However with games where the main character and who they are is a focus of the story, this is impossible. For example, the Witcher 3 is written around Geralt, and Uncharted 4 is written around Nathan Drake. To implement a female character to these games would not only be an absolutely gargantuan task for a very small gain, requiring changes in storyline, new voice recordings (not just of the main character), changes to scenes etc, but would also completely change the piece of art away from what the writers/developers intended. In cases like that, forcing you to play as a male or female, and not giving you the option, is completely reasonable. Asking for a gender option in those type of games is the same as asking to watch the whole Harry Potter series with a girl actor taking Harry's place. Like, it's cool if you want that, but no studio is going to put the extra money and work into that for such a small benefit, and if for example Harry Potter was about Harry's struggles with puberty, and learning about girls, it would completely break the narrative.

I don't know enough about this game to say which type it is, but being an RPG, I wouldn't be surprised if they wrote it about a male character, and wanted it to be about that specific character, in the same way as the Witcher and Uncharted examples above, and if that's the case, they are completely justified forcing players into whatever character they want, and complaining that they don't allow you to play as a female is frankly misguided and unbeneficial. Based on what I can tell about this game from the video and review above, it seems like it's more taking the p out of the typical privileged white male than glorifying them, and if that's the case, it wouldn't even make sense with a female main character.

Re: The Pokémon Company Appears To Be Developing A New Mobile Title

PorllM

Good, they would be idiots if they weren't. The more Pokemon on mobile the better. Although I hope they keep pushing out high quality, high content ones like Pokemon Go and Pokemon Quest. As opposed to half assed ones that provide an hour's content at most like Magikarp Jump. TCG would be great but a port isn't the best idea, the PC and tablet version is pretty outdated and low on content. I think they should completely reboot it into a animated, high quality Hearthstone experience. Put some microtransactions in it, make it F2P, and launch simultaneously on phones, tablets, PC and Switch. Tell me that wouldn't be massive.

This part is wishful thinking but a campaign where you walk around and battle NPCs like the original GB trading card game would be even better.

Re: Review: 7 Billion Humans - A Fine Programming-Puzzler, If You've Got The Head For It

PorllM

@NintendoFan4Lyf Possibly not, since I'd imagine the challenging parts would lean more towards the regular video game puzzle logic side than the genuine coding error side, as most of their target audience wouldn't have the background you have. As in, finding the solution and what you want to physically happen being more complex than actually making it happen via instructions. But I may be wrong.

Re: Review: Dark Souls: Remastered - Perfect Portable Punishment

PorllM

@SpottyBulborb It's a new controller scheme for the game when it's getting ported to it from another system, which is the context we're talking about. I get that the Nintendo button layout is older though don't worry, I've had every Nintendo system at launch besides the Virtual Boy, and PS3 was my first Sony console, so if anything i find the PS4 layout more strange to get used to.

Re: Review: Dark Souls: Remastered - Perfect Portable Punishment

PorllM

@RootsGenoa I highly doubt it. This is the norm for third party AAA games for Switch. B is jump on Doom for example. They focus on making the button layout the same as it is on other systems as opposed to adapting it to a new Nintendo layout. Which I'm happy with to be honest, as a comfortable layout that matches the developers intentions is a lot more important than what the buttons are actually named.

Re: Hold Me, Virtual Console Data Has Been Discovered In The Nintendo Switch eShop

PorllM

@twztid13 I assume you tagged the wrong person? I haven’t said anything “hateful” I haven’t tried to “act as referee” and I certainly haven’t acted like any opinions are worth more or less than anyone else - in fact the entire point of my comment was that opinions are subjective. Your weird little rant doesn’t relate to what I wrote in any possible way, lmao

Re: Excitebike Joins The Hamster Arcade Archives Collection On Switch Tomorrow

PorllM

@SegaBlueSky It's not clear as explained in the article. The NES version you're talking about is called Excitebike. The multiplayer arcade version is called VS Excitebike. Famitsu has revealed the game to be VS Excitebike but the game's title is Arcade Archives: Excitebike instead of Arcade Archives: VS Excitebike.

so until we get more info, nobody knows. I imagine it's the VS version and maybe it was missed by the name by mistake and will be added.

Re: Cities: Skylines - A SimCity Successor That Struggles To Shine On Switch

PorllM

Surprised it's as low as a 5...The game itself content wise is an 8 or 9. Frame rate is a minor thing in a low action game like this. And the drops are as much based on your camera angle as city size and can be avoided for much longer if you keep it top-down as often as possible. It's a minor annoyance at worst and I've seen streams of people with 100k population where it's still more than smooth enough. I'd read this as a 7 tbh.

@Cobalt Gamekult is one of the worst sites in France if not the world....they lie regularly on basic facts and if anything this convinces me it should be higher lmao.

Re: Surgeon Simulator CPR - You'll Never Look At Hospitals In The Same Way Again

PorllM

@Medic_alert It is by design! Frustration is the entire point of this game. The pc version is frustrating, the PS4 version is frustrating. I’m sure the motion controls only add to this but the game is designed that way, your mistakes and mess ups are “the joke”. It’s not really my thing but watch some streams and you’ll know what I mean. Accurate controls are not really the aim

Re: Cities: Skylines Is Out Now On The Nintendo Switch

PorllM

@SonOfVon Cities Skylines is much more complex than Civ processing wise and has thousands of pedestrians walking around all with actual destinations and jobs etc. Civ is a turn based game with much less to keep track of so should be nothing to worry about.

Re: Cities: Skylines Is Out Now On The Nintendo Switch

PorllM

@JHDK The frame rate in the PS4 version is pretty bad but it plays great to me. Because it's not an action game, more just one where you're scrolling around and looking at stuff, frame rate doesn't make much of a difference.

Will have to see more gameplay of course but I'm not worried. This will be updated for a while too if the other console versions are anything to go by

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

PorllM

Why is everyone like "omg it was better than E3!"

....The September Direct has always been bigger and better than E3, since it's where they set the scene for their holiday sales.

On topic though, it was really great. Was hoping for one new third party megaton Doom & Wolfenstein last year, but with Civ and Doom Eternal on the way, and that shower of Final Fantasy, I can't complain at all.

Re: Arcade-Style Co-Op Shooter RICO Scores New Trailer And Release Window

PorllM

@bones Wait what? Have I travelled back to 2008? That's less the case now then ever, with games like Fortnite, Paladins, Splatoon, Overwatch, DOOM etc. It was the 360/PS3 generation where we were showered with browny grey realistic shooters. Outside of COD and Battlefield there barely are any anymore, and even those series are changing rapidly.
