@martynstuff The charity gift and the reward are two different things. People are allowed to complain if the reward isn't as good as they'd hoped, this is a Nintendo fan site so it's a given that would be the part that affects readers more directly.
With that said though I actually agree with you, the reward is completely overshadowed by this pretty sweet gift and I hope they take it further!! @PlywoodStick That should only be temporary though until manufacturing gets cheaper right? Especially with indie games like Rime as they can be on smaller cartridges. 3DS games are on cartridges and these days are pathetically cheap.
@Anti-Matter Overcooked is already confirmed for Switch and since Earthlock has been ported to everything including Wii U, it's close to guaranteed too
EDIT: Sorry read it wrong and didn't realise you meant physical. Think both are a bit small games for that.
@Bunkerneath That's due to a lack of stock being delivered to them due to stock being oversold. In terms of the launch it's a VERY good thing. For The Hut, who run the Nintendo online store, not so much.
I'm sure I heard that Nintendo said there would be more stock by the end of the week anyway? In which case it's a complete non event. Do you remember how hard it was to get a Wii? For like 6 months?
The definition of defect is "a shortcoming, imperfection, or lack."
Since dead pixels aren't on every console they are definitely an imperfection and therefore unarguably a defect.
Basically they are saying they know it happens and are unable to stop it, and therefore unwilling to replace systems for it.
Which is fair enough but to say it isn't a defect is pretty dishonest.
I had one on my 3DS that was barely noticeable due to the location, didn't have one on my Wii U at all, and had one on my original DS that was incredibly annoying to play. It was so distracting in some games that I wouldn't bother. So it all depends on the size of the pixels in comparison to the screen, and the location of the dead pixel, and even the colour of the dead pixel, I think, in regards to how badly it affects your experience.
But if I paid £270 for a new Nintendo console and had a defective screen that they wouldn't replace, you can bet I'd never buy a Nintendo system again.
@Manjushri You do realise none of these games are developed by Nintendo right? The work and funding involved in a brand new Mario Kart would dwarf the effort involved in getting a few indie developers onboard tenfold. Also the best Mario Kart of all time came out a few months ago on a console barely anybody had, so to not update it for the switch would be pure idiocy.
If you know "as much about Nintendo" as everyone here then you already know the majority of first party Switch games haven't been announced. We know exactly how many first party studios Nintendo have and roughly how often those studios release games. We also know most of their projects are currently a mystery, and that holiday 2017 is the important time that will make or break the switch, not the launch period. Why are you acting like the games available on day one are the be all end all? If you don't like them you wait to see if any come out you do want, and if not that's cool too.
Also "@Nintendoforlife WHAT Nintendo doesn't develop every "Nindie" ?!? Thanks for pointing that out."
You're acting like it's obvious and he's dumb for suggesting that, but your first post directly suggested you didn't know this. If you did you already know your entire point is nonsensical.
The Sun is one of the biggest cancers on Western society and they aren't qualified for an opinion on ANYTHING in my experience. With that said, this can't possibly be negative press. Remember this is a page with boobs on page 3, needlessly sexualising things is a major part of their demographic. Could even lead to a couple of their readers picking it up.
Soooo scummy how this automatically went to the auction place when the address was still clear. It's like if something goes wrong they put minimal effort into putting it right on purpose, because they know they can sell it. If this didn't have huge media presence it would never be seen again, and it wasn't lost at all, just the label come off! This is a regular occurrence in shipping that they are required to be able to handle, it pretty much would have been theft. As someone who works with couriers in the UK every day and sees stuff like this a lot, shippers need stricter rules on dealing with peoples' property.
People still post "first"? Haven't seen that in years hahahaha ridiculous.
I like how they've based this a little more on the main games evolution techniques. I was kinda gutted there weren't elemental stones in the original launch.
Bought Little Inferno on Wii U but didn't finish it. Haven't tried any of their other games and wasn't planning to until I saw this review, now I'm gonna buy all 3! One of the best interviews I've read, picture included lol.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Yup. Tried Alien Isolation on Oculus Rift at EGX, and that was AWFULLY blurry/pixellated. If it had been 720p it would have been unplayable.
As a Nintendo fanboy who's spent the last 5 years aggressively demanding/desperately pleading for third party Wii U ports, even I think this is pointless. If it sells badly, which it's 100% guaranteed to do, that may put them off a Switch version. They should just cancel it and bring 1 and 2 both to Switch ASAP. Sales potential and ease of development on Switch makes the Wii U version not worth it at all. Ya know what, screw it, make Darksiders 3 Switch exclusive while you're at it, and release a trilogy box set. (lol)
I appreciate their effort in bringing this to Wii U and making sure it's not a bad port but this was needed at the start of the Wii U's life. Pretty much worthless now (no offence to the people who want it but I don't think you're very numerous lol).
@Seamoose If it relied more on power than gimmicks it would be another PS4/Xbox One. Xbox One is barely surviving on being too similar to PS4 with less good games. Throwing a third contender into that already dodgy situation, instead of creating your own market like Nintendo do so well, would be a pretty weak decision
@aaronsullivan "He's essentially saying that there has been talk of Japanese developers not matching Western developers technically and he is saying that his own perception at Nintendo is that currently that is not what he sees"
But that criticism hasn't been made since the Wii days. Wii U while being a failure of a console was generally accepted as being a masterclass in software development. Super Mario 3D World looking like it did in 60FPS is nothing short of a miracle with the specs they had. There is nobody in the West outside of Rockstar that are comparable from a quality standpoint. It's redundant information.
Besides, my point was, Nintendo have never spoken on this before and have let the games speak for themselves. It has worked for them from the NES until now. I appreciate your point that he didn't avoid the question. But he avoided questions like this for 20 years and it never caused any harm. Why is he so worried about the reputation of his developers now? That's what I meant by it seeming insecure.
I love Miyamoto but this is such an insecure and unnecessary thing to say. Letting the games speak for themselves has always been the Nintendo way. This is something Trump would tweet at 4am if he worked in the games industry.
Release Dig and Heist for Switch with a Rusty Amiibo that unlocks new features in both. Announce your next game. Can't ask any better from them then that!
It's a strategy that could work but it's also a half-assed one. The only real response to not having enough games is to develop more games. With their third party partners and their vault of IPs there's no reason they couldn't do this. Hopefully as Switch development settles in and the 3DS dies off they will start to manage it.
Does anyone know how the charging joy con works? You would assume it plugs into the dock, or the system when docked, but knowing Nintendo it could come with another wall plug. Please say that's not the case?! I've finally managed to clear my wall plugs after getting rid of my Wii U. One for the system one for the gamepad and one for the external hard drive was obnoxiously bad.
@ULTRA-64 I don't know who you remember saying that but it sounds like they didn't know what they were talking about, and it certainly wasn't a common opinion at the time. Wii U didn't offer anything PS4 and Xbox One didn't do except for a screen on the controller which is a meaningless gimmick. One that can be fun sure, (I loved my Wii U) but not a game changer. Switch is not comparable to that at all, handheld, tabletop and console in one, right out of the box? Motion controls, pointer controls, touch controls, or traditional controller right out of the box? Massive game changer and not comparable to Wii U at all.
@Spoony_Tech That's the exact reason it uses MicroSD. They allow you to get much more memory much cheaper than built in flash memory. The only cheaper option than MicroSD is standard external hard drives but for a portable console that's physically impossible.
@Phin68 What you're talking about is standard business practice. Sony said they would keep supporting PS3 after PS4 launched. Nintendo said the DS was to be alongside the GBA not to replace it. That's just how marketing works. To say "This console will be dead soon" before your new one launches would be idiotic as it would basically be telling people not to buy your old console without providing them an alternative.
@cheonsacz you're really right but in all honesty I haven't bought a game or system on day 1 in years. Full price for 1 2 switch is basically paying a premium to have it before most people. That's the only advice I can give, if it's too much for you then wait and see. I bought the order 1886 for £8 the other day, as an example. It was £49.99 at launch and arguably has less content than a mini game collection
@cheonsacz I actually agree with the price being too high too. It should be a budget download or a pack in with the console. But it seemed like his whole comment was the based on the idea games only last a few seconds which 1: nobody knows that at this point as they haven't announced or shown anything about that and 2: wario ware and NES remix have proved even if that is the case, if the games come quick and fast it still plays like a lot of content and could be incredibly fun.
I apologise if I misread the tone which is fully possibly but the comment sounded a bit like looking at something and going "NAH" without attempting to learn about it. Which is completely fine but why frame it as fact and post comments online as if you're trying to convince other people of the lack of value.
@alasdair91 You don't have to comment on a website to tell people you're not buying it, just don't buy it. Nintendo aren't keeping a list of gamers and writing YES or NO next to it. Besides we haven't seen enough gameplay videos to comment that some games last seconds, you simply don't know that.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Lmao. I know you're joking, and I wish Ubi would release more Nintendo games too. But they've never claimed to be saving or helping Nintendo and have no reason or obligation to. They're a business and will only invest in making games they are 100% sure they will make back a strong profit on. And rightly so.
To run an Xbox/Sony style online service with voice chats, server hosting, lobbies, MMOs, moderation, security from hacking, cloud saves, etc costs money.
To run the type of service Nintendo have done so far, where players host their own games and there are little to no other services, does not.
Whether I'm willing to pay this price or not depends on whether they're ready to step into 2005 and finally make a worthwhile network
@jimi Ignoring your blatant agenda, maybe going by what IGN said instead of what Nintendo said is pretty stupid?
The way Nintendo wrote it was:
"- Online lobby and voice chat
-Our new dedicated smart device app will connect to Nintendo Switch and let you invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games─all from your smart device."
They are specifically listed as two separate features. We have online chat and a lobby system, and an app that allows you to do those too! That's how they sold it.
Not to mention they are selling "Nintendo Switch Chat Earbuds" and headsets. They could be to plug into your phone of course but since most people already have headphones for their smartphones, that would be a pretty idiotic accessory to get ready for launch.
As for your other complaints, copying save games has no possible benefit except piracy. Not to mention cloud saves are a possibility once the paid service comes online. They haven't suggested whatsoever that there won't be a browser, just that there won't be at launch. Since we know the online service is coming a bit later that shouldn't be a surprise to anybody. The same goes for Miiverse. Plus we know they have a share button so if they do remove Miiverse they will have something to replace it.
They aren't keeping the 3DS alive either. Obviously they aren't gonna come out and say "the 3DS is now dead nobody buy it!" They have had the same approach to every console launch including Nintendo DS which they claimed was only a third pillar to Gamecube and GBA even though GBA was dead in the water already.
The only thing I agree with you on is that the price is too high as I was expecting around £220 but £279 in the UK isn't ridiculously bad at all.
PS4 and Xbox One launched at £350 and took around two years to get near that price. Yes they are more powerful but don't feature HD rumble, a HD screen, accelerometers, the Joycons and their sensors etc. Processing power is a minuscule part of the cost.
We know Nintendo are purposely holding back games to allow third parties a chance as they did on the Nintendo DS and this a good idea to me. If your main issues with the system are lack of games and the price then the common sense thing to do would be wait. The Wii U price didn't drop due to the ridiculous manufacturing costs involved but you can bet they've learnt from that. Around holiday 2017 or early 2018, when more games have released, the price has dropped, and the online has launched, anyone with a slight interest in Nintendo games will want it, including you, I'm willing to bet.
@JHDK That's not at all what they said. The way it was worded was two separate points:
-voice chat and lobbies
-app to allow the above via smartphone.
There was no suggestion whatsoever you can't voice chat via the console. The most likely situation at the moment is you can't at launch, which along with other missing features is why online is free at launch. When you start paying for online the voice chat will be part of it, there's no two ways about it.
I get the feeling this was just a list of game soundtracks to sample. All of Kanye's albums have had the same vibe/themed to the tracklist and I can't see him abandoning that just to have a bunch of game titles. He has always had a lot of game/nerd references and samples in his music though so seems more realistic to me
I don't know if this would be Beyond Good & Evil 2 based on the way he worded it. After all the rumours, BG&E2 would surprise approximately nobody. Not saying they aren't making it but sounds like he's referring to a real surprise to me.
@Anti-Matter I think you're confused lol this is just a funny minor fact and there is no accusation. Nobody could possibly have a problem with this (and they don't).
@Joeynator3000 Wow that's actually an incredible idea. The game is already low res enough that the screen quality wouldn't be too noticeable, and playing with the Wii Remote controls would almost feel like it's an actual VR game.
@Smash_kirby @ThanosReXXX Oh yeah I wasn't being completely serious either lol, sorry for coming off that way (same reply applies to both of you - definitely need to work on my humour lmao)
@ThanosReXXX I replied to your original comment without reading the rest of the conversation, then immediately deleted it when I saw your explanation. Since you explained what you meant further down my comment was unnecessary.
I am well aware that deleting a comment doesn't remove it from your inbox, but it does make it clear that the comment was a mistake, so continuing to reply to it with a snarky comment is a massive as***le move that serves zero purpose.
And my only original point was literally anybody could fall off a bike, drunk or not. These are the days when email was rare and most documentation would be moved this way, especially in Japan.
@ThanosReXXX Google Doodles are usually historic events, inventions, famous people's birthdays, independence days etc. They aren't really in the business of advertising other companies.
@PigmaskFan It was clearly about smartphones lmao, why would anyone be talking about 3DS VC on this article?
I agree to be honest, imagine Pokemon Red/Blue where you turn your phone horizontally and it has a d pad and buttons on the sides of the touch screen with the square game boy screen in the middle and the ability to switch between the original graphics and more colourful, FireRed type graphics at any time.
You could put it up for £5 a download and still sell millions after the Pokemon Go hype. Tbh Nintendo needs to start doing this with NES/SNES games too. There are so many Mario clones on the app store they need to take control, people would always rather buy the real thing.
I would assume it means that but where are we getting the SR from? It's in the blown up image done by the Redditor but very clearly not in the original image - the peak of his hat is covering where any letter would be.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think you need to relax and play some video games mate. If you aren't happy with the speed they post news you're welcome to start your own site. Would be a much better use of your time than submitting "dozens" of news stories then ranting about it in comment sections.
You don't honestly think they're sat there constantly checking that inbox and writing up everything that comes through and posting it the same day?

@martynstuff The charity gift and the reward are two different things. People are allowed to complain if the reward isn't as good as they'd hoped, this is a Nintendo fan site so it's a given that would be the part that affects readers more directly.
With that said though I actually agree with you, the reward is completely overshadowed by this pretty sweet gift and I hope they take it further!!
Re: Airplane Mode Symbol Spotted In Nintendo Switch UI, Sets Tongues Wagging
@JHDK That's not at all what they said. The way it was worded was two separate points:
-voice chat and lobbies
-app to allow the above via smartphone.
There was no suggestion whatsoever you can't voice chat via the console. The most likely situation at the moment is you can't at launch, which along with other missing features is why online is free at launch. When you start paying for online the voice chat will be part of it, there's no two ways about it.
Re: Video: Gorillas, Mechs And Lightning Bolts, Wii U FPS Draw The Line Has It All
Oh my god this is SO beautiful
Re: Random: Kanye West's Potential Album Tracklist is All About the Wii
I get the feeling this was just a list of game soundtracks to sample. All of Kanye's albums have had the same vibe/themed to the tracklist and I can't see him abandoning that just to have a bunch of game titles. He has always had a lot of game/nerd references and samples in his music though so seems more realistic to me
Re: Miyamoto on the Reasoning Behind Super Mario Run's Pricing
@SanderEvers This is a smartphone game not a 3DS. If you don't have connection on your phone in 2016 that's a you problem.
Re: Ubisoft CEO Praises "True Innovation" Of Switch, Teases "Surprise" Game In Development
@Bunkerneath Rayman Legends is the best Rayman ever made, and Origins is up there too.
Re: Ubisoft CEO Praises "True Innovation" Of Switch, Teases "Surprise" Game In Development
I don't know if this would be Beyond Good & Evil 2 based on the way he worded it. After all the rumours, BG&E2 would surprise approximately nobody. Not saying they aren't making it but sounds like he's referring to a real surprise to me.
New Rayman? Zombi U 2? New IP ?
Re: Weirdness: Mario Kart 8 Contains Hidden Swearing
@Anti-Matter I think you're confused lol this is just a funny minor fact and there is no accusation. Nobody could possibly have a problem with this (and they don't).
Re: Random: Kirby's Abilities Help Odell Beckham Jr. to Career-High Performance
@PanurgeJr I don't care but it's not really an argument. One involves using feet on balls, one doesn't.
Re: Weirdness: PlayStation VR's 'Cinematic Mode' Works With Wii U, and Pretty Much Any HDMI Device
@Anti-Matter I pity you, if you have enough hate in your mind to be able to point some at VIDEO GAMES of all things.
Re: Weirdness: PlayStation VR's 'Cinematic Mode' Works With Wii U, and Pretty Much Any HDMI Device
@Joeynator3000 Wow that's actually an incredible idea. The game is already low res enough that the screen quality wouldn't be too noticeable, and playing with the Wii Remote controls would almost feel like it's an actual VR game.
Re: Star Fox Developers Almost Leaked Details Of The Nintendo 64 After Drunken Bicycle Mishap
@Smash_kirby @ThanosReXXX Oh yeah I wasn't being completely serious either lol, sorry for coming off that way (same reply applies to both of you - definitely need to work on my humour lmao)
Re: Star Fox Developers Almost Leaked Details Of The Nintendo 64 After Drunken Bicycle Mishap
Re: Star Fox Developers Almost Leaked Details Of The Nintendo 64 After Drunken Bicycle Mishap
@Smash_kirby If somebody said I found a piece of paper detailing the NX on the floor, would you believe them? Probably has happened lol.
Re: Pokémon GO Creator Niantic Taken To Court Over Beach Mobs
Jesus the hype behind this game is long over. By the time this hits court nobody will be going to the beach anyway.
Re: Video: Take A Rare Look Behind The Scenes At Nintendo's Hit Factory, Circa 1990
@ThanosReXXX Google Doodles are usually historic events, inventions, famous people's birthdays, independence days etc. They aren't really in the business of advertising other companies.
Re: Video: Bandai Namco Goes Big on Iconic Franchises for Mobile Through 'IP Open Project'
Imagine if SEGA did this!!!!!! Genius idea.
Re: Check out These Pokémon Stickers for iMessage
Re: Weirdness: Fans Think They've Found Mario And Luigi's Father
Mario Mario
Luigi Mario
Mario Mario Sr.
(Senior)
I would assume it means that but where are we getting the SR from? It's in the blown up image done by the Redditor but very clearly not in the original image - the peak of his hat is covering where any letter would be.
Re: Metroid Prime: Federation Force Power Bombs in Japan
@Tsurii Nowhere near this game since it isn't a Metroid game
Re: Create A Shaun The Sheep Themed Level In Super Mario Maker, Win Original Artwork
Re: Pokémon Live Action Movie Could Be Penned By Writers Of Guardians Of The Galaxy And Gravity Falls
@Tlink7 Maybe because it's not.
