Earlier this week, we reported on a man in the US who got his daughter to climb into a Bandai Namco BarBerCut Lite cabinet so she could retrieve a number of Nintendo-themed prizes. At the time, a hostess in a restaurant opposite the machine who saw the entire act said the man ran off with multiple prizes including a "Gameboy DS" (reportedly a 3DS) and a brand new Nintendo Switch.
In the latest development, the 34-year old man has now been arrested and charged after he turned himself in at the local police department. He decided to surrender himself after a warrant was issued for his arrest. According to the source, he's now been charged with theft, criminal trespass and child endangerment. One other alarming bit of information revealed is that he's actually a teacher at a middle school. He's now been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Wow, that last paragraph was something else. Well props to him for turning himself in.
What a bone head.
child endangerment is the most serious offense... Still can't help but feel kinda bad for him losing his work and his family
What a horrible article all the way around.
oof
@dimi lol he stuffed his family in a vending machine.
As much as I like the middle finger he's sticking to the prize machine and the scamming it represents I wonder what drove the man to commit such an idiotic act lol.
Those machines are the real crime 😂😂😂
Shame on him....
A Gameboy DS? How hard is it to just look at the name on the device?
Why in the **** do people do **** like this? Do people not realize that they are indeed not smart enough to get away with theft?
This guy is probably boned for the rest of his life for such a trivial thing. What a waste.
Welp he ruined his life and that of his family as well. What a jerk.
The PTA is gonna roast him alive.
"One other alarming bit of information revealed is that he's actually a teacher at a middle school".
Not to defend him, but if everybody knew all the (arguably) bad things that each and everyone of us does on the regular, then nobody would be fit to hold any position of importance anymore. Especially people in law enforcement and politics! Yes, he should have known better, he gave a very bad example to his kid and he should face the consequences. But it's not like he murdered anyone. When things like this go public, everybody shouts "SCANDAL" but nobody looks at their own flaws and failures. Just another case of internet hype and quick to judge keyboard vigilantes.
I wonder what drove this poor, unlucky soul to commit such a crime? Clearly there is an evil multi national corporation behind the act, probably Amazon. This man shouldn’t take responsibility for his actions, it should fall on the shoulders of society and capitalism as a whole. I think some CEO for some organisation somewhere should resign (doesn’t have to Amazon’s, as all CEOs are evil) and someone should tweet something about how the man shouldn’t be punished, which gets over 10,000 retweets and is reported on BBC News. This man is the real victim. In fact, he should be released and presented with a medal for identifying how wrong the world is to force him to do this.
Administrative leave? So he’s until they get him through the bureaucracy of the system, he gets paid to not work, despite admitting to the crime. Guess at least that’ll help with bail.
I mean I get why that’s a thing, those rules are in place so an innocent person can’t be fire as soon as they’re charged for a crime, it just... idk. At least he seems to have some level of regret, stealing is bad but the danger he put his child in and the mixed up morals he may have instilled in her are the more worrisome parts. But he is at least showing a good example to her here...
Tyrone: "here's somethin' you might not know about me Joe Rogan...I love Nintendo!"
@Geeks4Life
To be honest, I can understand his frustration. But for that reason I steer clear of those machines. It's just not worth it.
While I say his actions were horrible and he did break the law, at the same time however those machines were never going to let go of the high ticket items.
Just because these machines rarely (if ever) give the good prizes it doesn't mean you're entitled to steal from them...
After all, the machine and its contents belong to someone, and you're mostly paying for the entertaiment.
Well, from free, that gameboy DS haul sure got expensive real fast!
I'm surprised no one has called for his execution yet although it seems you'd settle for his job.
Just what we need, to make it where another person can't make money. Put him in prison so he won't be rehabilitated and we can all bear the burden of paying the private prison companies to take care of him and he can face massive overcrowding.
That's totally justice. /s
What a Dad... sacrificed his job and reputation to get a 3DS for his kid.
Oh that is too much.
Like someone commented in the original article, the justice system will be more merciful than the wrath of the child's mother.
At least he turned himself in, and no doubt he's showing remorse, but at the very least this teacher is going to get an extensive education in community service.
This man can no longer be a teacher. As a parent, I wouldn't trust him teaching my kids.
@Cosats What, in case he took the class on an excursion... to the maul?
ROFL
Let’s all point our finger at the bad guy because it makes us look good
The long arm of the claw.
I’m just waiting for the gameboy DS mini
To be fair that is the only way to get those prizes. Those things should be illegal in the first place.
We all know why a gameboy was still in there, its because the machine has been ripping people off for the last 20 years without any chance to win!!
His mistake was using his own child instead of his students. Granted, middle school kids are generally larger than the prize door on a machine like this, but since I teach elementary school, I now know how to better utilize my students. Learning is fun!
lol
I feel like he should be forced to return the merchandise, take a class on proper parenting and pay a small fine. Losing his job, his daughter, and possibly his freedom goes far beyond an eye for an eye. That's okay though, our justice system is based on revenge and making someone suffer, not justice or rehabilitation. 🙄
Oh yes, this is theft. Not the thousands upon thousands of innocent peoples money who attempt those games, unknowing of how those games are rigged to cheat you out of your money. Just like the Claw machines that have been loosened up so they don't properly grip the prizes as they pull up. Honestly, I think what the teacher did was justified as while I'm sad that I lost several times to the cutter games, I'm glad someone walked away with some prizes.
What an idiot, at least do it when no one is around, not in the middle of the day with people filming you on their phones
My guess is this wasn't the first time he's done this. Way to be a role model for your kid(s).
Some folks need to understand the difference between a charge and a conviction. More likely than not, he'll plea down to petty larceny or just disorderly conduct and get some community service time. But we probably won't see an article on that, because places rarely report on the actual convictions of offenses.
Here are some Trivia in Indonesia:
1. Non gamers / Casual peoples mostly still called CD / DVD / Blu Ray / Cartridge / Mini DVD / VCD as Cassette, and they don't want to be educated / fixed their mistakes (still insist called them cassette because by mentioning their Right names, they were so confused and they keep calling those items with WRONG names).
2. Almost ALL Indonesian peoples keep calling Old Xbox / Xbox 360 / Xbox 1 as just XBOX, Nothing else.
3. Same like Xbox case, Some Indonesian peoples (Especially from Ghetto environments) still CANNOT differ between PS1 / PS2 / PS3 / PS4. They still called them PS instead PlayStation (Long name).
4. Almost Indonesian peoples just ONLY Know MARIO when they knew about Nintendo, Nothing else. They Have NO Idea about Splatoon, ARMS, Animal Crossing, Star Fox, Kirby, Zelda, F-Zero, etc.
5. Some Indonesian peoples still CANNOT Differ between Nintendo 3DS & Nintendo DS. They still called NDS or even worse Game Bot (Mispelling of Game & Watch).
6. Most Indonesian peoples called Soccer / Football as Bal Balan (What a HORRIBLE Names ever). So, they will say "Let's watch Bal Balan." Instead of "Let s watch a Soccer match."
@BensonUii lol we need a Gameboy DS. Why couldn't the new one remodel that and have a buncha virtual games preinstalled? 4 swords, super Mario land 2, Pokemon gold and fzero gp legend/climax would've been golden.
The Gameboy DS?! So you mean the three pillars have truly become one?! We need a Direct, Nintendo!!
That's a great use for children. I never thought of this! They can fit where adults can't. The perfect tools! Muahahaha!
@Anti-Matter I don't know, the Europeans might roast you for saying "soccer"....that's the American name. They call it "football", but we already called another game football so we had to call their football soccer I'm pretty hear I hear teeth gnashing every time "soccer" is said near a Brit or European
@MaSSiVeRiCaN Simple: he thought he could get away with it. Also probably wanted to make the kid happy without spending too much.
In other articles it has been noted that he had been identified by the surveillance video taken by multiple people after the police posted it to Facebook. I'm sure this pos only turned himself in now because he was already identified and caught.
Now if only the would arrest the teacher who runs Bulbapedia and is an admitted pedophile who says age is just a number.
Inb4 somewhere someone blames companies and capitalism and that he shouldn't be accountable for what he did.
@Romeo-75 Correction: What a horrible teacher/parent/person all around.
@Hobbitgamer , You are correct there definitely is a difference people all to often forget that especially the media.
@Handsomistic 15 , I agree if he told his kid to do that .
@NEStalgia : Hearing "soccer" makes my skin crawl. I call other forms of "football" rugby.
Youch. This guy admitted to doing it AND turned himself in, ruining his entire career AND possibly life? Major guts were needed to do this. At least he did the right thing in the end...?
I don't condone theft but they really don't pay teachers enough. This is just sad.
He certainly deserves a fine, but I hope he doesn't get fired (considering the teacher shortages in some states, they might actually let this slide). I'm not a big fan of firing people for extracurricular shenanigans. Unless this guy was taking his students on field trips to plunder Dave & Busters I honestly don't see why this has to be a crisis.
