Following last week's Nintendo Direct delay due to the earthquake in Hokkaido, the presentation - hosted by Shinya Takahashi - has now been and gone.
The broadcast didn't waste any time, immediately revealing Luigi's Mansion 3 would be coming to the Switch in 2019. A brief segment focused on the 3DS was next in line, announcing new but old games like Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn. The attention then returned to the Switch as Takahashi explained more about the online service arriving later this month - including the reveal of a wireless NES controller for use with classic titles.
Other announcements throughout included New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for Switch and a special Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hardware bundle. Yoshi’s Crafted World was locked in for Spring 2019 and a new RPG by Game Freak was revealed. Splatoon 2 and Mario Tennis Aces also got some time in the spotlight. Arguably the biggest Switch announcement of the presentation was the confirmation the Animal Crossing series would be making a return in 2019. The assistant pup Isabelle was revealed as a playable fighter for Ultimate at the same time.
On the third-party front we found out Katamari Damacy REROLL - a remaster of the original game - would be arriving on the Switch later this year. Cities Skylines also got a surprise announcement and is out right now on the Switch. A Capcom Beat ’Em Up Bundle is soon bringing a collection of classic games to Nintendo's hybrid device and Warframe is due out on 20th November. The Final Fantasy series got plenty of love as well - with multiple announcements and another mention of Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition HD and the upcoming remaster of Crystal Chronicles.
