Re: UK Pricing For Nintendo Labo Is Confirmed

PorllM

@AWeirdGlacier You seem to be arguing against yourself here a little. Yes you got Super Mario Odyssey on Amazon for £40, the reason for this is because game prices drop very quickly and because Amazon often sells games cheap day one anyway. The RRP was still £49.99. In the same way, these will easily be available for 50-60 very soon, probably even day one. Within a few weeks it will be even cheaper than that (unless they're a massive smash hit obviously). And you aren't paying £70 for a game and "a cardboard robot", you're paying it for the years of design work and cumulative experience that would go into this. You couldn't get this cheaper anywhere because nobody else is currently capable of doing it. Once other people start copying it, it will get cheaper, that's just how markets work.

This is a product to be compared to Lego sets and other such child-oriented creativity toys. Comparing it to video games makes not the slightest bit of sense. And in the world of such toys, this is actually incredibly cheap.

Re: Feature: Here's What Was Announced During The January 2018 Nintendo Direct Mini

PorllM

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Most of those things you're saying should have been mentioned are too major for a mini direct. Every mini direct so far has been followed by a major direct in 20 days or less. The whole point of this was to get ports and smaller titles out the way so they can talk about the things you mentioned in your post (when they're ready). January 12th is a little early to be complaining about what has and hasn't been announced for 2018.

Re: Review: Furi (Switch eShop)

PorllM

@Hotfusion It's not even 1080p 60fps on PS4. And it's made in Unity. Would be pretty surprised if it achieves that on Switch. Based on videos it seems smooth enough though.

Re: Nintendo Scores Big In The 2017 EDGE Magazine Awards

PorllM

Love that Nintendo did so well, and Zelda and Odyssey absolutely deserve the top 2 spots, but wow Arms in the top 10 is a massive stretch (no pun intended). It's not even in the top 5 first party Switch games. Better than Nier Automata? Better than Persona 5? Better than Horizon? It's a stretch to say it's better than Splatoon 2 to be honest. It's a super fun game and surprisingly addictive but massively lacking on content.

Re: Nintendo Boasts Of Continued Third Party Support For Switch

PorllM

I'm not sure why people keep bringing up Red Dead Redemption, it's been made very clear several times by Rockstar that the game's code is a mess and that it is almost impossible to remaster/rerelease. Admittedly this was a long time ago but....I still can't see it, there are a lot of great Rockstar games that could be done instead with a lot less effort. Bully, Midnight Club etc. Going with LA Noire first tells me they are going that kind of route.

Let's wait and see if I'm wrong though I guess. If it doesn't happen before Red Dead Redemption 2, it isn't happening.

Re: Blatant Splatoon Mobile Rip-Off Has Resurfaced in China

PorllM

There are hundreds of rip off Nintendo games on the app stores here in the UK. Or at least there was right up until Mario Run. They are good at taking down PC related stuff but not so much on phones. I think Apple tell them where to go if there's not a direct copyright infringement, just similar gameplay ideas and art style. Also China is infamous for not caring about stuff like this so if it stays within China they won't have a chance of taking it down - other countries are a bit more fair though so I agree it's unlikely to release elsewhere.

Re: PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds CEO Wants To See The Battle Royale Shooter On Switch

PorllM

@biblops The game doesn't require any special infrastructure, if DOOM online works this will work. In regards to your performance comment though I'm not so sure. It could work if they "get the hang of optimising it" sure but they've shown no signs of caring about that.

@misfitpierce

It's not a beta any more, and for a game with as simple visuals as PUBG, to not even manage a stable 30fps on Xbox One X is pathetic. If it was developed/optimised competently there's no reason it couldn't be 1080p 60fps with those outdated standard military shooter visuals.

Re: Rumour: Konami Is Bringing Its WiiWare ReBirth Series To Switch

PorllM

@Syntaxkita stealth is a pretty well known guy when it comes to rumours so it’s not like it’s just a random tweet or anything. However in this case you’re right, he said today on resetera that he doesn’t want to discuss his tweets as rumours and that he tweeted a list of the rumours he’d heard but wasn’t necessarily saying he backed them all or anything.

Re: Pokémon GO Receives New iPhone Exclusive Features

PorllM

@magnumc500 Do you mean WiFi hotspot? apologies if you meant something else but if you do, iphones have done that for a long, long time.

Also @Ttimer5 outside of expandable memory and split screen all of that can be done in iphone (sometimes through apps, sure) (although I may have missed what you meant with the plugging into PC part, I've had iphones for 6 years and no PC so I have no idea what you'd even do that for)Or are you just saying Android did them first?

Re: Rocket League Getting Performance-Boosting Update On Switch Later Today

PorllM

@TheTetrisGuy Resolution doesn't come under performance though, resolution is the image quality. So unless it's now 65FPS or 120FPS (which is impossible) the performance hasn't been improved.

UNLESS it wasn't a perfect 60fps before, and some tiny drops have been removed. But I haven't heard of or noticed any drops previously, hence my confusion/question.

Re: Nintendo Is Bringing Classic Wii Games To The Nvidia Shield In China

PorllM

@McHaggis Genius if so. Lets Nintendo and Nvidia break China without affecting Nintendo's hardware sales anywhere else. Get Nvidia to help on emulation which helps with Switch VC and HD Wii games. Gets Nintendo games out in China which could help market the switch to the millions of potential gamers there without Nintendo history. Everyone could win from that deal in several ways!

Re: Rumour: Leaked EA Email Apparently Confirms January Nintendo Direct

PorllM

@Ralizah one of the main aims in setting up ResetEra was to move away from that side of Gaf and to allow balanced discussion from all opinions as long as it’s not hateful, racist etc. It’s too early in the sites life to say whether or not they’ve achieved that fully, but no, it’s nothing like neogaf in that regard. However even if it was, the poster I replied to was specifically saying hate, even if Era carried on all those negative aspects of Gaf that you mentioned, hate was never prevalent there.

Re: Rumour: Leaked EA Email Apparently Confirms January Nintendo Direct

PorllM

@TheWhiteFalcon Ironically your comment is more hateful than 99.9% of posts on there. Resetera is one of the most liberal, hate free and welcoming communities on the web. Also this site has always used GAF for news ideas so that will continue from ResetEra now. Better get used to it. I even saw the "milking" pun from the mario cereal article there first.

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)

PorllM

@Snaplocket operation rainfall has nothing to do with the origins of the game, it was already out in Japan when OR became a thing. It’s about how Nintendo didn’t think the game would do well in the West back then, and consumers begged them to bring it over which was a huge gamble. To go from that to being one of the main switch releases worldwide this year is huge, unprecedented and well worth mentioning in a review. You may disagree which is fine but don’t act like some minor mention of the history of where the game came from is some idiot irrelevant thing to say, because you’re factually wrong if that’s what you’re suggesting. Also Mario 64 was mentioned in the vast majority of odyssey reviews.

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)

PorllM

@Snaplocket It's not necessary but it's very relevant, I don't understand why they wouldn't?

EDIT: Sorry I posted this before I saw your second comment. You're clearly just offended by it for no reason.

Re: Review: Ginger: Beyond the Crystal (Switch)

PorllM

@RyanSilberman I know there are people out there who say stuff like that, but I don’t think many of them do it in a clear sarcastic tone, or have 4 years of posts on a nintendo site, most of which are jokes haha

Re: Review: Stick It to The Man (Switch eShop)

PorllM

Bit of a harsh review in my opinion, can be a bit frustrating at some points but the writing is hilarious and the art style is brilliant, they also go together so well. 7 is a robbery it’s a 9/10 game to me, 8 absolute minimum, although I did play it through playstation plus. Might think different if I’d paid for it ?? Probably not though

Re: Sonic Forces on Switch Has Solid UK Launch as DOOM Moves Up the Charts

PorllM

@MsgBoardGamer "So add another 2,900 U.K. digital sales, then? That's...still not a great showing." Well .....

1. The argument was over whether digital sales would make a significant difference, not whether or not it sold well. Considering that would be almost double, it's absolutely significant. However:

2. Sligeach did not source his 3,500 number and it's frankly impossible and would make it the slowest selling AAA switch game by a huge margin

3. Even if that number is correct it would only account for the UK which is Nintendo's weakest territory and gaming's in general. Without Japan and the US those numbers are meaningless.

4. In regards to Doom's success, until it's been out for more than a couple days and we get sales numbers for more than one region, no one has the right to comment in either direction.

Re: Sonic Forces on Switch Has Solid UK Launch as DOOM Moves Up the Charts

PorllM

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Well we know digital sales are a fair chunk of overall sales, even if only 15-20% (the most conservative you can possibly be and to suggest it could be lower is idiocy). We also know that is a growing percentage as physical sales are becoming less and less relevant in the industry as a whole. We also know game developers and publishers get a higher profit from digital sales due to less costs involved. That much is undeniable and does not need sourcing, but I don't think you'd disagree with any of that anyway.

The reason I haven't needed any sources for what I've said is because all I've said is "digital sales are significant and need to be taken into account". Even if they have sold way less than I think, this is still undeniably the case.

I'm not making a blanket "physical sales are next to nothing and digital sales are not enough to take into consideration" statement like you. I'm not making a statement that goes against the entirety of the industry's media and news like you. Therefore the onus is on you to provide something to back up your, frankly impossible claims. Once again I'm not claiming that digital sales are huge or industry changing, just that they're significant.

EDIT: never mind, I typed all this for no reason, @gortsi just proved you a liar with one link : http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-11-02-the-uk-console-game-sales-now-30-45-percent-digital

Re: Sonic Forces on Switch Has Solid UK Launch as DOOM Moves Up the Charts

PorllM

@gortsi Oh don't worry I'm well aware of his trolling history haha. I just tend to ask for sources and be polite instead of just insulting, it encourages them to talk in the same manner, either that or stumps them entirely. It's a shame he supplies NL with so many news stories, means he will probably never be banned despite filling many many comment sections with ignorant opinions, unnecessary negativity, and outright falsehoods over recent months.

Re: Sonic Forces on Switch Has Solid UK Launch as DOOM Moves Up the Charts

PorllM

@SLIGEACH_EIRE you don’t get to say digital sales are insignificant without providing numbers and a source. We are going by the evidence available, you are sourcing nothing. The eshop charts display the best selling games from the last 2 weeks, a time period that goes right back to 2-3 days after Odyssey launched. For a game to get to number 3 in only a few days is very, very significant considering how fast switch software sells in general.

Re: Nintendo's Updated Switch and 3DS Infographic Shows Off Winter Line-Up

PorllM

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Thanks for the other review. I didn't mean to suggest Sonic would be any good, just that Polygon are incompetent and the company behind this ( https://sickr.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/mario_kart_pie_chart.jpg ) shouldn't be referenced in any situation.

As for your comments about 2018, well Nintendo have a direct at the end of every year showing new games for the first half of the next year. They also have one around E3 time every year that, while of course showing games for the following year, always announces at least a few for the end of the current year. Right now all of their focus is on the holiday season, once again as they do every year. So realistically until at least one of those Directs come, ideally both, nobody has a leg to stand on with commenting on Nintendo's output next year.

Of course Metroid Prime 4 was announced early, it's Metroid Prime 4. Pokemon isn't a Nintendo game and correct me if I'm wrong, was announced by Game Freak first, because people were screaming at them about a Switch game when the new 3DS ones were announced. So that part doesn't relate to Nintendo at all.

I think your mistake is assuming that because they announced a couple games early, that most of their output for next year is now known. Nintendo haven't worked that way in a while now. I think they were burned by Breath of the Wild taking so long and only show games these days when they are confident in the release schedule. Games being announced, then released within a few short months has been the norm for them this year.

In 2017, Nintendo has released one major first party game every month. The exception is this month but it seems they've specifically done that to give third parties a chance, and the third party releases this month pick up the slack several times over. Yes a few were Wii U ports, but that's irrelevant because nobody had a Wii U. And even more were collaborations with third parties, but that's a really smart idea to increase their output and vary their projects. I would expect this to continue in 2018, if not step up, and can't see any less first party games than 1 per month being a possibility.

Sorry for writing as much, I'm honestly thinking aloud just as much as I'm replying to you.

I'd love to see your evidence about Pikmin 4 though! It doesn't seem believable to me because Wii U was already long dead in the water at that point, but if I've missed a comment from them saying that I'll happily eat crow!

Re: Microsoft Wants To Reach Gamers On Rival Systems, Says Xbox Chief Phil Spencer

PorllM

I can't see this leading to Rare games on Switch to be honest, although I'd obviously love that. It seems to me more realistic that it'd be done with new IPs that focus a lot on online multiplayer or community sharing. Launching a game like that with Cross Play for all systems would be hugely lucrative. And they're absolutely correct that the benefits to having so many users would massively outweigh the hardware selling benefits of staying exclusive. That worked with 360 when all your friends had one and you wanted to play with them, it could never work now when nobody wants an X1.

My main point is, don't expect Rare Replay or Master Chief Collection on Switch. I'm imagining this to be about some entirely new things. (if it materializes at all)

Re: Nintendo's Updated Switch and 3DS Infographic Shows Off Winter Line-Up

PorllM

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Fifa and 2K are good games. Certainly not great, but to claim they aren't good at all is a bit disingenuous even if they aren't your thing. Taking a Polygon review seriously is one of the most hilarious things I've seen online. Not claiming Sonic is a good game because I haven't played it but that's the last website you should go to for reviews. And to reply to your original comment, it is way too early to say 2018 is bare bones, Nintendo are focusing on the holidays right now and to reveal too much about next year would be bad marketing 101.
