While this port is disappointing in ways, what's more disappointing is seeing how many people on this site are willing to excuse a game from 2013 somehow looking worse on Switch 2 versus PS4: a console also from 2013.

@SpaceboyScreams It probably has something to do with DLSS trying to upscale from a very low internal resolution. All the fine hairs make the upscaler fly into a seizure. Expect this sort of thing going forward, unfortunately.

I'll probly pick this up on Switch 2. Hopefully they do a few cute gimmicks with the controller features.

Maybe I'm just old, but I have a hard time seeing how a 14-hour battery life is a ding. I think people are just spoiled by 20+ hour battery life estimates at this point.
Like, just plug it in after you're done playing. It isn't difficult. Are you playing for 14 hours straight or what?

@BaldB3lper78 On a game of this scale, the answer is hardly ever as simple as "devs lazy." Deadlines exist, budgets exist, and — more importantly — executives exist, and they set the figures for the two former things.

@Luke937 I wouldn't be so sure. Companies would sooner make their games all digital than spend the extra scratch putting the whole game on the cartridge. As much as I don't like it, physical media is on borrowed time.

Expect better from this company, people. This is your money you're spending, and they're treating you like piggy banks. You deserve better than this. Don't feel bad for the poor multi-billion dollar company.

So long as someone, somewhere has these ROMs backed up locally and has a place to upload them, neither Nintendo or the FBI or god himself has the ability to completely stamp this out. It's like trying to stop the passage of time.

@sethfranum I mean, let's be real, a statistical majority of the people who buy those inexpensive emulation handhelds aren't in it to play the original carts, they're in it to play their 500 GB folder of ROMs on the go.

I was unfortunately one of those idiots that jumped on the bandwagon. I never tweeted Kamiya directly, but I was part of that fecal show. In the end I was just as wrong as everyone else, but to be fair, given his "I'm an A-hole lmfao" persona, he didn't make it hard to believe he'd screw over his own VAs.

Price hikes are definitely making me look into my backlog a lot more these days. It doesn't help the triple-A gaming space has given me less and less reasons to care about it over the years. Nintendo included.

They should change it to neon green just to upset both sides of the argument.

Dang, I can't share my hentai puzzle games with people until the Switch 2 comes out.

@BenAV At the same time this IS the same company that's trying to spearhead $80 games as standard ahead of Sony and Microsoft + kept all models of Switch 1 (even the crusty V1/V2 model) the same price for 8 years.

I feel like tech nerds and display enthusiasts like Digital Foundry subscribers are way overrepresented in terms of what the average consumer prioritizes.
If there is only an LCD model for the Switch 2 at launch, it's still going to sell gangbusters (provided the launch lineup is compelling), because Nintendo's got us by the nads. Where else are you going to play the next 3D Mario? Or the next mainline Zelda? Legally, that is.

@KingMike You can control the Wii menu with a Classic Controller. The cursor moves with the left analog stick.

@Purgatorium Some Switch games/apps prevent you from using the share button to take screenshots or clips. YouTube is the quickest example of that restriction.

Outside of maybe rare or obscure instances, I can't recall any Nintendo system that had backwards compatibility that wasn't at least 99% compatible.

@Jiggies Standards have raised in the twenty years since the GameCube. That, plus Nintendo fans haven't been in a spot to complain about graphics or performance since 2006. You want the Marios and Zeldas? Well, you gotta put up with hardware a decade out of date, then.

@NTELLIGENTMAN Adjusted for inflation, the N64, Wii, and Wii U would all be about $400 if released today. Even the base model Switch would be north of $350.

So long as the remaster wasn't botched, that's all I care about. This has always been a 6/10 game, even back when it came out. I just want that hit of nostalgia.

@Skullkid87 I heard it has something to do with Japanese laws that prohibit them from putting mature-rated games on the app after it's already been rated below a mature rating.
The more probable reason is to simplify the parental controls, so you don't have to lock little Timmy out of Mario 64 just because Perfect Dark got released.

Nintendo is behaving exactly the way we expect them to, this is nothing new.
That being said, if they think they can scrub any emulator from the internet entirely, they've got another thing coming.

@Rob3008 I think it's possible for two things to be true: the Switch is massively outdated and has been showing its age for years, however a port like Arkham Knight was ill considered from the start and should never have been made.

@Isaix I mean, they could always just stick one of those Warner Brothers-style "It was a different time" disclaimers at the start, if they're so worried.

@Dragonite89 I can almost guarantee you a big reason they're so wealthy is specifically because their hardware is cheaper. They sell it at a profit, and the returns on game development are greater due to a lack of focus on 4k visuals.
