I ain't paying $70(+$5 tax) for a game that's likely going to struggle to hit 30 frames at probably 900p. I'm a Zelda simp, but I'm not licking this company's boots.
I wouldn't mind a Steam Deck personally, but between the Switch and my modded 3DS, it really would be fighting for my time (and space in my bag when I go out).
@ramu-chan Most people seem to be in agreement that the Switch port is a fine way to play the game. Maybe your standards are skewered due to your "3080 and 5900X" rig which demands "no compromises," but people, especially Switch players, are not that picky.
Wii U's ads didn't sell me, and I only wanted a Wii U because it's Nintendo and I was a die hard Nintendo fan at the time. Switch ads, on the other hand, made me genuinely want this piece of hardware regardless of who was making it, because it looked really cool.
I think what people fail to realize is that even after a proper hardware upgrade, the Nintendo console will always be the weakest. It's been that way since the Wii a whole 15 years ago. Compromised ports are the name of the game at this point, and even if the next gen Switch does clear PS4 Pro/Xbox One X level performance, it's still going to be rapidly outpaced by the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, and we'll be right back where we are now.
@Nintendo_Thumb You do realize that any themes or music would likely be optional, right? As in, you would still be able to leave it at the default menu with no music?
"I don't want this feature, so no one else should have it."
Man, if Bayo's anything to go by, Tears of the Kingdom is doing to be groaning under the weight of the Switch's hardware, and it's going to be glorious to witness.
@Truegamer79 Let's be honest, even if Switch 2 is as powerful as a PS4, by the time it comes out, the industry will have no room for PS4-level performance, and we'll be right back where we are now, scraping by with the odd "impossible port" here and there.
I for one am just glad to see Hideki Kamiya is finally being outed as being the trash person we always suspected he was. The shtick was kind of cute for a while, until he revealed he's actually like that once this allegation rolled in.
Neat for that very specific type of person who owns a Steam Deck but not a GBA and wants to play their real cartridge on the Deck. Legitimately, I'm happy for them.
@Impoh By all accounts, the game has had a massive redemption arc and is apparently good now.
Also, Dying Light is 7-years-old and people made a big deal about that port, too. Switch is gonna get older games, that's just what the hardware has locked it into.
Based on my own test, RE8 does seem to run well enough over cloud, but it still begs the question: Why? Do they expect me to have access to wifi at all times in order to play these? What happens when these versions get delisted or the shop gets shut down in ~10 years?
Still crazy that something that draws so little power can play a game like Doom Eternal. Granted, it's not a 4k/120 experience, but it plays. I've had bowel movements that expend more energy than this thing.
I have an extremely difficult time feeling bad when someone steals from these massive corporations, but trying to make yourself out to be some kind of hero for doing it is disingenuous at best.
@Zucaritas Fair enough on the price point and wait times. I have a 256 GB as well, and I'm still glad to have the cartridges since my digital library has it almost full up. Witcher 3 alone would eat up some 32 GB of precious space if I didn't have it physically.
Plus it's fun to trick people into licking the cartridges. The reactions never get old.
@Zucaritas When dealing with the Switch, physical can legit save you a ton of space on the SD card/internal storage, so there is a practicality behind it.
@theGamerPad It's trivially easy to do some basic reading on the store page or back of the box. If the end user can't even be trusted to do that, then whatever they end up with is on them.
The problem with Game Freak seems to be they're still building games as if we're all still looking at them on a screen scarcely larger than the palm of our hand. It's like they developed the game without ever seeing what it looks like docked.
@Edu23XWiiU And yet in Hyrule Field, you could see the whole area from Lon Lon Ranch. Dungeons and certain rooms have specifications for how close or far the fog is from you, but it's never there to mask draw distance. Believe me, having played OOT on original N64 hardware for 20 years, the pop-in is there, and it's not covered up whatsoever.
It's one thing to like the look, but don't mistake it for a correction. It's very much an error in reproducing the game's atmosphere.
@Edu23XWiiU You were never supposed to see everything, though. Unlike the OG Silent Hill, Ocarina's fog was very much an aesthetic choice. Even on original hardware, you could see far off into the distance in Hyrule Field, so it wasn't a matter of hardware limitation in that game.
@Yosher Still rocking my launch model here, flaccid battery life and all. Not about to shell out $350 for a prettier screen when the games play exactly the same otherwise. /o/
Seeing grown adults arguing semantics over whether the Switch is a home console or a handheld will never not be funny. It's marketed as a hybrid, it's a hybrid. It competes in the same space as PlayStation and Xbox for sales and shelf space.

Re: Retro Studios Wasn't The Only Dev Working On Metroid Prime Remastered
@stevep Compared to $60 for Skyward Sword, which didn't have a fraction of the refurbishing done to it compared to Metroid, $40 is fair enough.

Re: Random: GoldenEye 007 Composer Reckons "Old Team" Would Have Done A Better Job On Emulation
@GrailUK There's a few minor graphical issues if you look closely in some areas, but nothing as severe as what OOT dealt with when it came out on NSO.
Re: Review: BlueRetro N64 Adapter - This Plug & Play Bluetooth Dongle Is The Perfect Match For Your NSO Pad
@BrianJL GC controller is better up until you try playing any game that wasn't made by Nintendo with it. Then things become incredibly hit or miss. :U

I'd honestly rather have a blurry mess of a native port than a cloud version.

Watch us be weeks out from Switch 2's launch when they shadow drop themes into the NSO app, but they cost 5,000 Disney bucks a piece.

With how annoying these are to get, I'd rather just make do with a Pro Controller.

@Edu23XWiiU Just here to inform you Nintendo fixed the fog in the NSO emulation, so even they seem to disagree with you.

@Bunkerneath I still have my physical N64 version, which is far superior to both that and Switch version.
