Re: Nintendo Explains Why Switch Games Are Still Getting Free Updates

PlatinumSeraph

Apart from being personally glad that they're doing this, I figured that this was their plan from the start. The Switch 2 isn't a new direction for Nintendo; it's effectively just a Switch Pro which has exclusive games. Consequently, for most people, the upgrade path will be slow and only make sense after enough good exclusive stuff is released, or they feel rich enough to splash out on a new console with fancy features. The fact that they're still releasing Switch games into this year suggests that to me.
Mind you, my only real previous experience with a console generational shift like this was the Wii U, and they stopped making games for that very very quickly for very clear reasons.

Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?

These results are based on people's self-reported buying habits, which I suspect aren't very accurate. I just said that I buy on average two games a year, but I've already bought three this year, plus been gifted one, and bought one as a gift for someone else.

Re: "I Can't Afford To Give It Away For Free" - Silksong's Low Price Is Causing Devs To Re-Evaluate Their Own Games

I think it's worth remembering that Silksong, while a massive deal in the hardcore gaming community, is not a big release for non-hardcore gamers. It has had little marketing and most ordinary people won't have heard of it and frankly wouldn't be interested even if they knew exactly what it is, since what it is is an excellent game in a niche genre which requires both a high skill level and a great interest in video games as a medium to appreciate. I don't think it's fair to compare Silksong on a level with blockbuster games which will have a much broader appeal.
