Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Mario Kart World's Switch 2 File Size

PlatinumSeraph

256 divided by 22 is about 11.6-ish, which is pretty reasonable I think, considering that one is not likely to have more than 11 first-party games installed even over the whole lifetime of the system, unless one is a big collector. And I imagine third-party games (except for third-party AAAs) will be much smaller. So most people might not even need to buy an external storage device at all, which is great and much better than the situation with the old Switch!

Re: Poll: With One Week To Go, What Are Your Switch 2 Launch-Day Plans?

PlatinumSeraph

I'm not planning to buy it until it's been out for a few months at least. I'm not sure I'll be able to control myself for a whole year but I'm crossing my fingers that the price'll drop a little after a while. There haven't been any Switch 2 games that feel like an absolute must-buy for me yet, although that might change if the June Direct rumour is true!

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility List

PlatinumSeraph

Love that render, it looks so polished!
Anyway, on the subject of the article, I wonder why there are so many games with incompatibilities. I would have thought that Switch 2 was pretty similar to Switch 1 software-wise, but maybe they changed the software stack or the operating system interface a lot.

Re: Metal Gear Creator Hideo Kojima Is "Afraid" Of A Future Without Physical Media

PlatinumSeraph

@Dirty0814 How so? Digital distribution removes the need to develop physical storage media and packaging, as well as the need to ship the physical media to shops and then the need for the purchaser to visit the shop or to order media from the shop. It also makes it easier to copy and generally manipulate data, because it is stored on a device's main storage device and not on a removable medium. And since the production should be cheaper without the need to produce physical media, the game should be cheaper too. Of course, the game is usually not cheaper, and copying it is illegal; but these are because of laws and regulations around who has control of the intellectual property of the game, not the necessary processes of production.

Re: Netflix Confirms It's Expanding Into Video Games, Will Be Included At No Extra Cost

PlatinumSeraph

I really don't want what has happened to TV shows and movies to happen to video games because they move onto streaming services. It's not great already that sometimes games are released on only one console so you have to buy a specific console to get a certain game, but at least it's understandable; Nintendo are no doubt terrified that if they were to release their first-party games on their competitors' more performant consoles, consumers would just buy them, and destroy Nintendo's console offering. But if streaming services should take over for games, then everyone would be forced to pay for a subscription for a whole bunch of games they didn't care about just to access the ones they do. Consumers already don't have a lot of power in the video games industry; I don't want to lose what little I have.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?

PlatinumSeraph

I have a feeling the Steam Deck won't last long. The games which Steam is good for aren't designed with a system that small in mind, and I suspect its performance won't be up to scratch either. If you want to play games which do work well on small screens, I'm willing to bet you'll get a better experience on Switch, which will offer the same games but a more polished console (and for a cheaper price).

Addendum: Wow, this comment section very quickly became a minor brawl. Don't worry, everyone: whichever console does better in the long term, they aren't really competing on a level, so I don't think the success of either will disadvantage the other.

Re: How Well Do You Know The Legend Of Zelda?

PlatinumSeraph

@JugOfVoodoo This is really interesting to hear about for me because my first introduction to any sort of unified chronology for the Zelda games was Hyrule Historia. No doubt in a few more games, they will have messed up their own chronology sufficiently that it needs to be rewritten all over again. I think that this will always be the case because Nintendo always seem to design the game first and give it a plot (which may or may not follow from previous plots) afterwards. This creates excellent games, but as a side-effect, it also writes inconsistent chronologies.
