Re: Opinion: Nintendo Needs To Let Us Block The Crap On Switch 2's eShop

Pickettfury

I know in its current state its terrible, but i kind of enjoy browsing through and reading the descriptions of terrible games sometimes. I use deku deals for legit shopping.

Also, i think its great that they allow more adult orientated content these days, though there should probably be some sort of filter for children and puritians.

Re: Switch Online's "Mature" N64 App Expands With Two More Games

Pickettfury

Omfg shadow man!!! I already finished the nightdive remaster but happy that more people will get to experience this one. I first played it on the n64 at 10 years old and it was the scariest and most difficult game to play. Very age inappropriate but at the same time it left a lasting impression on me. It remains one of my favorite games of all time.

The lesson that should perhaps be learnt here is that things often get lost in translation and vast cultural differences exist. Just try to be respectful, knowing that these things can occur and that other cultures exisit that have different ideas. Also, machine translations between some langauges are not reliable and news websites are often using such stories as bait for rage engagement.

Re: Sea Of Stars Developer Sabotage Replacing 'The Completionist' NPC

This event highlights something important to remember, some charities are infact dodgy or functions as money laundering schemes for the rich and organized crime. Jarid is an example of a small fry getting caught. Further, there are slot of not for profits that take a substantial portion of money raised in operating costs. Just trying to say, its important to do some research about the organizations you donate to.

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

Pickettfury

Wow. This opinion piece sure is unpopular. I personally don't mind about BC. I play maybe 4 to 5 games a years and don't really go back to old ones. There's always an abundance of new experiences and I've been lucky enough to keep up with the ones i care about most. I've tried going back and playing games from my childhood on the virtual console but i never get more than a few hours in before dropping them. In some ways, for some people, i think this all about collecting and having things accessible but not actually using them.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Is Leaving PlatinumGames

Pickettfury

@Znake You seem to have very strong opinions about Tencent. I hope following the governments crackdown on big tech that Tecent will be more responsible with their investment strategy in gaming. What do you think about their heavy push into esports?

Re: Soapbox: FOMO Nearly Ruined Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom For Me

Pickettfury

Too much time online and not enough time playing TotK, i think hahaha. I literally didn't watch any build videos for a month because i was like, who cares what other people are doing. This is my adventure (but basically didn't want to be influenced by other peoples ideas).

I think there's a much bigger problem to touch on with the game. Since it, I can't find anything else that makes me feel the same. I search, buy games, and then bounce off them, creating a backlog of stuff that feels like a chore. But in the end that's what makes a title like this so special. And perhaps its freeing too not to have such an addictive a game on hand all the time to be able to function at life.

Re: Review: F-Zero 99 - A Brilliant Battle-Royale Revival That Plays To The Series' Strengths

Pickettfury

@-wc- Time to master the new control scheme then, right? In the fzero world we got to take whatever we can get sadly. Im struggling a bit with the controls too. I missed the snes one at the time but played a lot of the gba games and x and gx. This doesn't quite feel how i remember but the gameplay loop has me hooked enough to try and master it. Also i bought a snes controller to try and summon snes energy.

Re: Video: It's Finally Time To Talk About Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom's Ending

Pickettfury

Loved the final boss fight and that whole segment of the game in general. I skipped the lionel haha. Wish i had of had stronger armour and more gloom down potions. I ended up getting slaughtered by Ganon a couple of times during the double flurry rush part.

Amazing after i finished it i put in another 100 hours or. I was so hyped for this game and it was everything i could have wanted. Unfortunately I've picked and dropped like five games since. Ultimately i think its a good thing. TotK had me playing way too long which often isn't very compatible with adult life.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Sells More Than 18 Million Copies In Two Months

Pickettfury

@sleepinglion the way i see it is TotK development actually started in 2011 and released in 2023. BotW was the halfway mark. That's how long they've been working on that world to fully realize it and fill it. This is actually super concerning for the next entry. Perhaps, after recent success, they can dramatically increase the development staff to get it done in 6 years next time.

Re: Poll: Are You Still Playing Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

Pickettfury

I have deep regrets about finishing the mainstory. It took me about a month but i wish that i had of waited longer like with BotW. Its not that its not run anymore, it's just like oh this story detail might have meant more to me prior to the ending. I blame TotK for having a compelling plot.

Re: Random: Guillermo del Toro Praises Mario Movie For Moving Animation In Right Direction

Pickettfury

The Mario movie to me was purely about movement. There was a tiny bit of plot to drag things forward but the focus was primarily on movement. I think you can have different types of films. If you go to short film festivals you'll often see experimental films entirely absent of plot but i get that in a feature length film most people will get bored without a story telling hook to keep them engaged. Film can also about experimenting with the moving imagine rather than telling a story. Just think of one of the earliest motion pictures showing the movement of a horse. I'm not saying the mario movie was a masterpiece, but from the art style, use of movement and sound design it was great and probably why people like Guillermo appreciated aspects of the film.

Re: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Has Sold A Staggering 50 Million Copies Since 2015

Pickettfury

@OrtadragoonX That's an interesting idea. Makes sense. A developer only has so much time and resources and they heavily invested in the story and world building. Even a simple side quest was often captivating.

I think i made things particularly difficult for myself because prior to the Whicher 3 i had just come of BotW. Funny enough, when i went back to BotW it was jarring being asked to collect 10 of a specific type of lizard for a side quest.

I wonder what the future will hold in terms of jank as they are switching to Unreal engine 5 for the next entry apprently.

Re: Poll: Which Was Your First 'Final Fantasy'?

Pickettfury

@GamingFan4Lyf you make a very good point. Around the same time i played lufia and then breath of fire. I remember them both being way too hard and i didn't manage to get that far in them. I look at my 6 year old nephew these days an couldn't imagine him trying out one of those games! He would rage quit pretty quick.

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of The Super Mario Bros. Movie Are In

Pickettfury

@Olmectron Really hope so. I can totally understand from a Nintendo business perspective if its more targeted towards north american/western audiences because that's where the box office dollars are. At the same time it is Shigeru Miyamoto passion project, and from his reputation, i don't think he would concede on much. Hopefully the success of this movie leads to more funding for Nintendo EPD to get an even more ambitious new mainline Mario game out in the non to distant future.

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of The Super Mario Bros. Movie Are In

Pickettfury

I think ill enjoy it either way but have secretly been hoping it hasn't lost too much of its homeland flare in favour of north american popular culture and hollywood tropes. Fingers crossed. I wish i could see it on release but ill wait a few days and see a night session. I'm one of those people that thinks immersion breaking loud foods like popcorn and noisy people shouldn't be allowed in the cinema.
