Paramount Pictures and Sega Corporation have managed to turn Sonic the Hedgehog into a Hollywood star. The second film — which came out earlier this year — is even the highest-grossing video game movie of all time in North America. So of course we're getting a third film in 2024, and a spin-off series starring everyone's favourite echidna.

We know very little about Sonic's third big-screen outing, but Sonic fansite Tails' Channel has discovered that the movie's synopsis may well have been revealed via an industry publication called Production Weekly.

It's only been months since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hit cinemas and Paramount+ — with the movie only releasing on Blu-ray and DVD earlier this month — so be aware that the synopsis, which we'll be sharing below, will have spoilers for the end of the second movie.

All safe and ready for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie spoilers, then?

Tails' Channel has shared the potential synopsis of the third movie on Twitter (thanks, ResetEra!). In short, the summary lays out the potential conflict of the film, along with confirming that Shadow the Hedgehog — who appears in the second movie's post-credits scene — will be a key part of the film.

That last detail isn't necessarily surprising if you've seen the final scene. But, not only will the Blue Blur's red-striped rival apparently be involved, but the synopsis states that Amy, Big the Cat, and a "robotic version of Sonic" will also be making potential appearances.

Here's the synopsis from the film — edited for clarity by Tails' Channel — along with the tweet they shared.

With Sonic, Tails and Knuckles having defeated Robotnik and his Badniks, Green Hills is saved! But it wasn’t over yet.

The Team will have to face what Robotnik’s grandfather has created, Project Shadow. Things go from bad to worse when Robotnik obtains the Mini Emeralds from the destroyed Chaos Emerald, and creates his robotic version of Sonic, which will be used for the scientist to get his sinister revenge!

Teaming up with Shadow, they intend to defeat the Hedgehog once and for all. Through a dimensional portal, different creatures, Amy and Big, show up to help.

Could this team defeat Robotnik before the world comes to an end?

Paramount and Sega haven't acknowledged the details at the time of writing this, and all of these details are subject to change as the movie is over three years away. But the potential of Metal Sonic making an appearance sounds very exciting. You thought we were going to say Big the Cat, didn't you?

We'll likely find out more official about the film next year, but this will have us speculating for now.
