Love that the original idea of shifting/flipping levels didn't go to waste!
The pixel art looks rad, but I wished the HUD would fit the game better with the same pixel art style.
Looking very promising, even though some textures (the grass) seem to come straight from GameCube. I hope Sakurai and team will polish these in the time that's left.
@Dr_Corndog There is no option to say you prefer to play from a normal card that has the full game on it, which would be the closest and (according to many) superior option.
This is Nintendo stubbornly steering people in a certain direction.
Yeah, Nintendo needs more cart sizes, not just 64GB. There should be 4GB, 32GB and 128GB options as well to reduce costs. This will also incentivise devs to optimise storage to make it fit.
Clumsy, yes, but the point is game prices have not been corrected for inflation for a long, long time. People that think games should be 60-70 dollars are even more out of touch.
This is more about branding / visual identity than it is about "what is prettier". Nintendo is doing a complete overhaul now (even on eShop cards and character designs), this was just a piece of a bigger puzzle.
I like that Astro Bot is still selling well (and in the top 10 more than 6 months later). Gives Sony an incentive to work on similar projects — and Nintendo an extra push to outdo themselves with the next Mario.
@jeronan All correct, but the reality is that large sized cartridges are still quite expensive — plus physical stores have become less relevant these days. Most publishers will therefore skip a physical release.
As long as the servers are up, this Game-Key card option gives us the option to buy, own and resell a game. (Not better than having the game on the card, I agree, but at least we are offered a choice.)
I feel that Game-Key cards are misunderstood somewhat as you DO own the game on the card and can resell it (contrary to a digital download). It's just that it downloads the game once you insert the card, thus offering publishers a cheap option to sell a 32/64 GB game AND still be present on store shelves.
I find it ironic Nintendolife is consistently ignoring European prices, as I feel the biggest pain is being felt there (€89,99 over €69,99, a 29% increase). A large percentage of your readers is from the EU, right?
News goes fast: European retailers are listing these Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games for 74,99 euros and 79,99 usd in the US. Which makes the value of these upgrades around 10 dollars.
Thanks to this article I learned about the existence of Piopow on NES — what a fun and creative looking game! I also found out it's creator, Jeremias Babini, died an unexpected death last year. 😢 A tragic loss, really, this guy was super talented. Hopefully his friends/family make Piopow available digitally via itch someday, the Limited Run edition has sold out.
While K&K obviously have inside information on how Nintendo runs their business, these are still assumptions and opinions from former Nintendo employees working as Public Relation Managers at a local office in California, far far away from Nintendo HQ. Just like us, they don't know if Nintendo is "very very" upset.
@Hoshiko Brain Training is one of the best selling titles on the Nintendo DS system (19 million units sold, which is even more than Pokémon Diamond & Pearl!), so I bet there are people with fond memories of it.
Typography has always been an issue in Square Enix games, especially for Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest remakes. I think Japanese devs have an idea in their heads on how these games should "look" and will often pick tradition & style over usability. User testing & a solid QA process could have prevented this!
That Switch reveal became one of the most discussed and well remembered reveals in the history of gaming. Sometimes being different is the right way to go.
@N8tiveT3ch Why would Universal Music, Sony Music and Warner Music have their music on Spotify? Because everyone is streaming from there! Nintendo would even get paid per stream, now they get nothing.
Since it's release in June, Banana Rumble has not been discounted a single time in the European eShop. I am waiting for that to happen, the demo won't make any difference.
@Olliemar28 Ahhh I missed that. It's currently the 14th (!) item in the "Latest news" section. If you really think about "what is important today" / what are people talking about online the Analogue/8bitDo announcements should have stayed sticky a bit longer imho. Nevertheless, thanks for answering!
So there was an Analogue 3D / 8bitDo's 64 Controller reveal yesterday and you still choose to make THIS your cover story. Note to the Editor-in-Chief: you missed the mark here! https://www.analogue.co/3d
In one of the streams I saw yesterday I also saw a bug on the kart board where the player was not able to stop at a "star point" after rolling a multi or triple dice. Is this intended?
Can't help thinking there was a small and dedicated dev team passionately working on this for a few years. I hope they are OK and can still fix some of the bugs.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (Switch 2) - Samus Returns In Prime Form
So the trailers didn't do this game any justice then. I am happy to see so many positive signs.
Re: Nintendo Launches Switch 2 Backwards Compatibility Search Page
This kind of feels useless with 99.5% of the games being compatible. I'd rather see the improvements on NS2 listed per game (if there are any).
Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?
6 to 10. Therefore, I cannot answer.
Re: Brawler64 Pro Controller For Switch 2 Boasts Hall Effect Sticks And Magnetic Faceplates
... But can it turn on the Switch 2?
Re: Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition Brings Match-3 RPG Fun To Switch This Month
Love to see this back, it is one of my favorite Match games (next to Zoo Keeper).
Does this support 4K on Switch 2?

Re: Rumour: A Nintendo Direct Is Reportedly Coming Ahead Of Mario's 40th Anniversary
Ah, September. The month in which Nintendo always has a Direct.
Edit: Except last year, it seems!
Re: Preview: Sakurai's Kirby Air Riders Is A Kaleidoscopic Adrenaline Rush

Re: Elgato's Latest '4K S' Capture Card Is Switch 2 Compatible
Feels like sponsored content, as this is literally a company ad in a spotlight article.
Re: Pokémon Presents July 2025: Every Announcement, Full Livestream
Z-A looks like it's Scarlet/Violet all over again, not much to get excited about on Switch 2. I'll pass.
Re: Nintendo Is Seeking Player Feedback On Game-Key Cards In Japan
@Dr_Corndog There is no option to say you prefer to play from a normal card that has the full game on it, which would be the closest and (according to many) superior option.
This is Nintendo stubbornly steering people in a certain direction.
Re: Nintendo Is Seeking Player Feedback On Game-Key Cards In Japan
Stubborn Nintendo wants to know how much we LOVE their second worst option so they can share their findings in the next IR meeting.
I hope Japanese gamers don't fall for this trap.
Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing
Yeah, Nintendo needs more cart sizes, not just 64GB. There should be 4GB, 32GB and 128GB options as well to reduce costs. This will also incentivise devs to optimise storage to make it fit.

Re: GameStop Apparently Investigating New York Store Over Sus Switch 2 Bundle Sales
Cross-selling practices happen almost everywhere when stock is low, which is awful. Good they are responding swiftly though.
Re: You Can Finally Repair Weapons In Zelda: BOTW And TOTK On Switch 2 (Sort Of)
A very Nintendo-ish way of addressing player critique without disowning their own decisions.

If it’s 5 euros / pounds and clearly a tour guide introducing people to the Switch 2, why ask money for it at all? I don’t get it.

It looks awesome because NIS is showing PS5 footage in that trailer.
Re: Rumour: Nintendo May Have Already Shipped A Boatload Of Switch 2 Units To North America
Considering how many demo events are planned for May already, chances are Switch 2 will release before Summer. End of May (23rd?) or early June.
Re: Star Fox Veteran's New Game Is Channelling Serious Lylat Energy

Almost 9 months after launch, and this game has not been on sale even once in the Nintendo eShop (at least not in EU).

No surprise here. Trailers already showed the game will include video's of Alexey Pajitnov & Henk Rogers talking about the origins of Tetris.

This is such a Nintendo thing to do. I would have preferred to have this on Spotify (or Apple Music), not in a separate app.
