Re: The Outbound Ghost Dev Copyright Strikes Its Own Game Over Legal Battle

While I do support the developer in gaining control over his own creation, it does sound like there is more to this story than he likes us to believe... it is clear that both parties handled the situation poorly.

Why did the dev not work with the publisher to get these bugs fixed after release, before he knew they were going to hold back on payment? Did the publisher actually breach contract by releasing the game with bugs? The dev is responsible for a polished game, not the publisher.

That said, I think Digerati is a ***** publisher. I saw the video in December and some immature comments from them on Twitter and do not like how they handled this either. Best end to this would be if both parties can settle these disputes on their own. Conrad should get full control over the game and get time to fix these issues... Digerati should pay him according to contract and work together on a roadmap.

Re: Team Sweet Win The Latest Splatoon 3 Splatfest

Honest question: what happens if +50% of all players pick the same option? Are there always enough people to match with?
In this particular Splatfest, Sweet was clearly the most popular option, but Nintendo always makes it sound like it was a close call.

Re: Analogue Pocket's Next Big Beta Update Will Roll Out In July

I am happy with this announcement. It shows they are struggling somewhat, but are committed to deliver the 1.1 update.

I hope they can keep their promise to update the OS more regularly after 1.1 has released and improve their communication towards their customers / the FPGA community.

Re: Nintendo Minute's Kit And Krysta Say Goodbye In Their "Final Episode"

NielsNL

Good chance the abrupt ending was caused by Nintendo cutting overseas expenses. Offices in Toronto and Redwood City were also closed last month. It is clear to me in the video that Crysta is thankful but NOT happy with the decision at all. It came as a surprise to them.

I am sad to see the show go. They were a big part of my Saturday morning ritual. ☕

Re: After 18 Months, Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Fans Are Almost Done Decompiling The Game

Reverse engineering itself might be legal, releasing mods or ports based on reverse engineered code is not.

The EU Computer Programs Directive allows reverse engineering for the purposes of interoperability, but prohibits it for the purposes of creating a product and/or releasing information obtained through reverse engineering of software (source).

In addition to that, most End-User License Agreements (EULAs) specifically prohibit reverse engineering. Courts have uphold these contractual prohibitions in the past.

The question is if Nintendo is actively going to stop it. Ocarina of Time is almost 25 years old and it might not be worth their time.
