Re: Anniversary: Monolith Soft Celebrates Xenoblade Chronicles 2 With A Post, But We're Desperate For A Switch 2 Revamp

N-MCMXCIX

Previously, I would've said that it wouldn't happen because the line had to be drawn somewhere. But the more I thought about it, the more a Definitive Edition of 2 makes sense. We don't necessarily need graphical upgrades or 60fps, but on the other hand this was the first one on Switch, therefore there may be some room for improvement on that merret. Plus, a release on a 64GB cartridge could house Torna as well as 2. But don't expect such a thing to happen until the 10th anniversary, as It'll probably follow the same pattern as the Definitive Editions of 1 and X.

Re: Perfect Dark Voice Actor Calls On Fans To Help Series "Survive"

N-MCMXCIX

I don't know. Depending on why this Perfect Dark project got the axe, perhaps some other studio could finish it, or start over and build something new from its pieces if there's not enough there to finish. But in the meantime, a Switch port of Perfect Dark Zero I still want, as it'll likely be a long time before we see anything from this unfinished new Perfect Dark even if someone were to continue it. Also: I doubt it'll ever happen, but what if Playtonic were to finish Everwild?

Re: Rune Factory: Guardians Of Azuma Switch 2 Cart Will Apparently Also Work On Switch 1

N-MCMXCIX

Nintendo said that Switch 2 Editions would contain the Switch 1 Game and the Switch 2 Upgrade on the cartridge, both in online statements and right there on the front cover of the case. So therefore, why is it a surprise that the Switch 1 part of the cartridge is allegedly able to work on a Switch 1? It's essentially like a Game Boy Color cartridge: put it in a Game Boy Color or Advance and you get color, put it in a regular Game Boy and you get the monochrome version, unless the box says otherwise. How is it that difficult to comprehend? I was saying this might be the case even before the Switch 2 was unveiled.

Re: Yep, Metroid Prime 4's Box Art For Switch 2 Is... Corrupted

N-MCMXCIX

The problem with putting the text on the back cover, is that often times the cartridges are locked in a glass cabinet, therefore preventing anyone from even seeing the back cover. The text on the front cover is annoying, but sadly necessary for the average customer to see it. However, given that the clamshell case is less clear than before, perhaps we'll have a reversable cover that removes the ugly text. Or alternatively, maybe we get a printable replacement redeemable for 30 Platinum Points. Either way, we'll just have to wait 'til October.

Re: Feature: Switch 2's Mouse Support Is Exciting, But Which Current Games Might Also Benefit?

N-MCMXCIX

If we're talking classic point and click games, two were forgotten: Shadowgate, and the Humongous Classic Collection. Given more Humongous games were ported post Classic Collection, perhaps we'll see an expanded edition on shelves for the Switch 2? Otherwise, some of the third-party titles listed DO have support for USB mice, the problem is such support is inconsistent overall. Also: we really ought to have an official Bluetooth version of the SNES Mouse for NSO. Though lasers are nice, I do question if a ball mouse can be done for old time's sake.

Re: Sonic Team Producer Says Revivals Of Older Entries Remain Appealing

N-MCMXCIX

We should have as many past games as possible on Switch. Concerning bringing back the 3D games of the past: Sonic The Lost World and Sonic Unleashed would require the least work given they're already in HD and can therefore be ported as-is. Sonic 06 would probably be a ways out, given its infamy and lack of structural integrity, unless a port is already on track for 2026. Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Heroes may not be in HD, but have aged well enough that a little texture upscaling should be all that's needed, though I suppose swapping out the character models for their modern counterparts and redoing some of the voice lines couldn't hurt. The two Sonic Adventure titles would be the tallest order, given all the debates that can be had on the project's direction alone. Would the Sonic Adventure games return as a port of the original? or a remake? That matter could be debated 'til the cows come home!

Re: Reaction: With Xenoblade Chronicles X On Switch, The Wii U's Demise Is Complete

N-MCMXCIX

With the gormotti out of the bag, [terrible add-lib of the idiom], I guess Yoshi's Woolly World is the next big Wii U title in line, and its chances of a port are quite good given it has three applicable anniversaries next year, [Its 10th, Yoshi's 35th, Super Mario Bros. 40th], though Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is arguably more important despite the controls. Otherwise: I could see Star Fox Zero happening in 2026, whereas The Wind Waker and likewise Twilight Princess could be anniversary releases or appear on Nintendo Switch Online.

Re: Konami Doesn't Want To Rush Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2

N-MCMXCIX

Well one thing's for sure, the debate as to whether or not the rest of the Metal Gear series can run on Switch is seemingly a moot point, given that it may not be until 2028 that we see a Master Collection Vol. 2 happen. That said, I still say that Vol. 2 should contain Portable Ops, Guns of the Patriots, Peace Walker, and a bonus inclusion of Ghost Babel or Acid. Whereas The Phantom Pain should be set aside for a Vol. 3 instead.

Re: Random: Nintendo's New 'Button Collection' Toys Can Be Used For Real Controller Repairs

N-MCMXCIX

Of course it'd be mostly the same parts! What did you expect? These are most likely from the same molds used to manufacture the NSO Controllers which themselves seemingly use some of the same molds from the past, and the same molds as the Smash GameCube Controller which itself is the same as a regular GameCube controller. Though it is worth noting that there's no guarantee that these are the exact same molds from back in the day, as plastic-injection molds do wear-out over time and eventually need to be replaced, at least if what I know of The LEGO Group's manufacturing process is anything to go by.

Re: Famicom Controllers For Switch Are Now Up For General Sale In Japan

N-MCMXCIX

Concerning NSO controllers at retail: I'd say it should depend on how long the controller has been available. It makes sense to do NES now because it's the oldest and the novelty has mostly run its course, plus almost every subscriber either has one or has chosen an alternative. With SNES, it is one of said NES alternatives and itself has alternatives, it could go either way, so maybe next year. With SEGA Genesis, regardless of the contract, there's not much point either way given the Retro-Bit version exists. But with N64, the novelty remains as it's arguably still essential with few alternatives, so probably no retail release until 2026. In conclusion, personally this changes nothing as I still intend to import the Japanese version of Nintendo World Championships as it's more practical investment. Also: WHY IS THE JAPANESE NES EXCLUSIVES SECTION OF THE PAGE FOR EVERY NINTENDO SWITCH ONLINE GAME AVAILABLE STILL NOT UPDATED WITH THE JULY 2024 RELEASES?!?

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's GBA Library With Three More Titles

N-MCMXCIX

The fact that we got another update so soon leads me to suspect two things: First, we might see a third update later this month [SEGA Genesis perhaps?]. And second, we might see a hiatus in preparation for the announcement of a new system or two in September.
Also: if any moderators are reading this, I couldn't help but notice that the Japanese NES Exclusives section of the page for Every Nintendo Switch Online Game Available still hasn't been updated to add last week's newcomers, or to remove former exclusive Atlantis no Nazo. Please notify those in charge so this detail may be resolved swiftly.

Re: Sonic X Shadow Generations Website May Be Teasing A Fourth Playable Character

N-MCMXCIX

It seems clear now that unless it's someone new, there are only three candidates. We can obviously eliminate Rouge as she's frozen at 2001, and likewise Blaze as she's frozen at 2006, as there would be a contradiction if either of them were it. This leaves Emerl and Omega who were not in the original story whatsoever, and Silver whose inclusion wouldn't necessarily contradict his part of the original story. This is assuming that the original campaign isn't expanded with additional zones from games released after the original Sonic Generations, which is plausible. Tributes to times not known before and characters within include: Mania [Mighty or Ray], Superstars [Trip], Lost World [Big], Forces [Omega], and Frontiers [Sage with line about her unfamiliarity due to being from the future].

Re: Feature: 54 Switch Ports We'd Love To See Before The Generation's Out

N-MCMXCIX

Crow Country could show up in the November Indie World Showcase, Resident Evil 2 could be added to N64 Online if nothing else, Silent Hill could see a Master Collection with the PS1 iso of 1 and the HD Collection 2 & 3 using the same engine as Metal Gear Vol. 1, Mass Effect Legendary Edition was spotted on a rating's board a while back, Kirby's Epic Yarn is one of the most likely games to see a Switch port due to it fitting the pattern of recurring titles previously sold on three systems in a row, and Xenoblade Chronicles X will appear at the February Direct and release in Summer 2025 for its 10th anniversary.

Re: Feature: 9 'Mature' Games We'd Love To See On Nintendo Switch Online's New N64 App

N-MCMXCIX

Problem is, too many of these either were remastered too recently [about 5 years seems to be the minimum for time between eShop and NSO] or were not released in Japan. Games released in both Japan and the West have the highest chances [expect Resident Evil 2 in October] as the quantity must remain close in both markets. Also, don't expect Turok 2 & 3 to show up, as 1 was merely a representative sample, added in part to keep the balance.

Re: Feature: 10 Game Boy Deep Cuts That Aren’t On Nintendo Switch Online

N-MCMXCIX

It's a bit early to be petitioning for the deep cuts, seeing as Game Boy games in general are lacking on Nintendo Switch Online. The irony is that the service's Game Boy section is marketed as regular Game Boy, but is mostly Game Boy Color titles! However, with this year being the 35'th anniversary, the regular Game Boy selection could see some much needed catching up done, with both common and obscure titles alike.

Re: Random: Modded Nintendo Switch OLED Runs Zelda: TOTK With 4K Visuals

N-MCMXCIX

I had wondered if the current Switch could run games at 4K for a few months now, questioning if one could take a title that doesn't take much of anything to run [say, a Game Boy rom for example] and through clever programing make it run on a stock Switch in 4K. I mean, is there anything truly stopping the current Switch from running a non-demanding game in 4K through the use of the OLED dock?

Re: Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Game Line Up Hasn't Been Decided "Yet"

N-MCMXCIX

Sure, one could naturally assume that Vol. 2 will be MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots, MGS: Peace Walker, and MGS V: The Phantom Pain, but there is another possibility: We could instead see Vol. 2 contain Portable Ops, Guns of the Patriots, Peace Walker, and maybe Ghost Babel; whereas MGS V: The Phantom Pain would be saved for a Volume 3 alongside MG Rising: Revengeance, and MGS V: Ground Zeroes.

Re: Square Enix To Be "Aggressive In Applying" AI Going Forwards

N-MCMXCIX

To give Square Enix the benefit of the doubt, one potential interpretation of "create new forms of content" could be remasters of past games, as a remaster is essentially a new form of existing content. The studio wasn't the best at keeping records, so many original game assets were lost. AI is one method that could aid in the use of late generation files from retail copies of titles from 25 years ago in HD or 4K remasters of said title.

Re: Switch Online Expands The N64 Library With Another Game (Japan)

N-MCMXCIX

Honestly thought Jet Force Gemini would have also released in the states tonight, as many games have been announced for one day only to release in the final hours of the day before. Now we have up to three times to look for when the final three N64 titles release. These being: Jet Force Gemini for the U.S. and Europe, 1080° Snowboarding, and Harvest Moon 64 regardless of a U.S. release. And on top of that, a possible batch of SEGA Genesis titles could be on the way as well.

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch Online's N64 Release Schedule

N-MCMXCIX

As for more precise release dates: Jet Force Gemini will likely actually release on November 30th at 9 PM New York time or December 1st at 2 AM London time. Whereas both 1080° Snowboarding and Harvest Moon 64 will likely be released together within the final two weeks of December.

Re: Fortnite's Original Island Returns In New 'Season OG' Update

N-MCMXCIX

Normally I could care less about Fortnite. But this news is interesting due to the fact that right about now is when Avengers Endgame took place. In that film, Thor was seen playing Fortnite. They obviously couldn't show modern Fortnite because it hadn't been written yet. But this classic season being introduced, that explains how Thor was playing a 2018 build of the game in 2023.

Re: Star Wars Heritage Pack Is Getting A Physical Release, Includes 7 Games (North America)

N-MCMXCIX

This is tempting. I have been eying the Jedi Knight dual pack. This would be a good way to get both these and The Force Unleashed on cartridge. But on the other hand, I do already own Republic Commando, and it is a shame Knights of the Old Republic is a separate download. I know having everything else on a cartridge is an accomplishment in and of itself, but you would think that they could just have an extra cartridge or two in the case to compensate.

Re: Feature: Harvest Moon 64’s Relationship With Alcohol, The "Magic Liquid" Of Flowerbud Village

N-MCMXCIX

I don't think alcohol is keeping Harvest Moon 64 off of N64 Online in the U.S. The game was on the Wii U Virtual Console over here, and Nintendo Switch Online does have titles as high as T. No, the real reason it hasn't been announced for here is because doing so would have resulted in too many questions regarding Harvest Moon SNES. With the U.S. rights now renegotiated, we may see Harvest Moon 64 over here after all.

Re: Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition Announced For Switch

N-MCMXCIX

I knew it! Borderlands 3 on Switch! About time this came out of the woodwork, but why not wait for the Direct? Either way, unless I'm forgetting something, I think the only big third-party title remaining that is rumored but yet to be announced, is Mass Effect. Otherwise, by my calculations we're 3 for 4 as far as ratings leaks are concerned.

Re: Random: Someone Has Digitally Preserved The Super Mario Oreo Cookies

N-MCMXCIX

Actually, by making these scans, it theoretically makes it possible to make edible replicas in the future. I'm not talking theoretical printers that can print cookies instead of plastic here, though that would be one way of going about it. What I do mean is, invert and mirror the 3D model, then print it with food-safe plastic, and then you have a stamp to cut more cookies from raw dough.
