Unfortunate. Still buying loads when I can, though I think my last purchase was Sonic x Shadow Generations back in Early Dec from HMV of all places.
Last time I went into my local GAME (in Sports Direct), no staff were at the till, the store only had a couple of employees and they were either serving the Sports Direct customers or playing security at the entrance. I gave up buying from them and not yet gone back. Only real way I get physical is online retailers now and mileage varies. The self sabotage from the industry is disgusting.
1. Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition - 83 hours
2. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - 37 hours
3. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - 30 hours
Added with my PS5/PS4 time, that is 1083 hours. Compared to last year 2023 on switch with total time of 586 and combined time with PS5/PS4 of 1207. Definitely a drop in switch time.
Thrilled that the sales are getting RGG's attention. It has been fun playing through again on Switch. My only gripe is that some battles with either lots of opponents or im particularly busy parts of Kamurocho, the framerate dips alot. The graphics themselves are fine; it obviously is not as good as PS4, but it works nicely. My personal favourite is when you go out on Mahjong with a Ron. It might be because the lighting is different, but Kiryu's facial expression just brings out a lot of joy for me.
Not a fan of ports normally, but If this leads to more Yakuza ports for Switch 2(name pending) then great!
Definitely noticed. I do feel it is worse than Link's Awakening. I was kind of hoping this game would be better optimised, but thankfully not bad enough for me to not want to play.
I do miss the smoothness of A Link Between Worlds.
It was fine. Had it on in the background. Some announcements which I thought were neat, but I am in no major rush to play any of them. Yakuza was a genuine surprise, and I will buy purely to show support, but otherwise don't have much to say. These games were sure games.
6 - functionally it's fine, and I assume the online modes probably would be fun, not that I can truly say as I won't pay for NSO. But I don't get the same level of enjoyment as I did from NES Remix.
I'm an idiot, but damn that Switch Lite has got me. Got my preorder in with GAME, though I might try for someone else as GAME love charging extra for delivery on preorders.
I am glad to see another 2D Zelda, but it feels like the philosophy of BOTW/TOTK has leaked into it with the concept of having all the tools available at the get go.
That said, not seen enough yet to really judge and I am glad that Zelda finally gets to live up to her namesake. Not to mention I am thrilled we get to see ALTTP/ALBW Hyrule again!
I have never traded in a game. I never saw the appeal of doing so; I was never happy with prices offered in exchange for the games, but more importantly, I like being able to return to a game when the mood suits me, whether because I want to re-experience a game, or try to 100% etc. I also never traded in DVDs for the same reason.
On the other hand, thanks to people trading in, I managed to pick-up several second-hand titles for a pretty penny back in the day; though not so much anymore. I can normally find a new copy online for cheaper than pre-owned in store. Heck, even within game, I could find pre-owned copies which cost as much as a new version in store, which always baffled me.
@PessitheMystic Let me rephrase that then; there is room to embrace both styles with new games. Is that better?
@NintendoKnower Doesn't have to be a case of finding a key. But you could make actual puzzles which can only be solved using the resources in the room the puzzle is featured. Heck, BOTW and TOTK even had one or two occasions where they had shrines with a similar concept (Eventide perhaps being the best case), but in those cases, it was typically about surviving against a group of enemies rather than an actual puzzle; TOTK was rife with shrines where you were gifted a weapon or a shield to fight 3-6 Zonai.
However, Aonuma also feels like, particularly in Tears of the Kingdom, there is a "set path, it just happens to be the path that [the players] chose."
What is this nonsense? If there is a choice, then by definition, it is not a "set" path.
"...because I am wondering, "Why do you want to go back to a type of game where you're more limited or more restricted in the types of things or ways you can play?""
Restrictions breed creativity. It's great that they have managed to design open-ended puzzles, but I also feel it takes the fun out of them and they just become a boring obstacle as I don't find them particularly challenging since there are so many potential solutions.
The classic formula still has much to offer; this disdain for games like BOTW's predecessors is honestly sad. You don't have to make every game going forward open world, you can embrace both styles of game. I am hoping it is just the translation, but I am very disheartened by the attitude from Aonuma.
@Peteykins You are correct. I must have missed that, that's unfortunate.
@Pillowpants I vaguely remember quite a few of the levels normally having an easy exit via a "hidden" door near the beginning of the stage, with the stage itself being rather difficult. Certainly would be more of a nuisance than anything.
Interesting idea. Although, I can also see some gremlins here. I can see those who would upload levels just to mess with the group, though I doubt they would outpace the team.
@johnvboy I'm not sure where you got me accusing you of being a "Nintendo" defender from my comment. I specifically said "big corporate entity" because their never seems to be a shortage of people who go to bat for any company regardless of what they do; that is not exclusive to Nintendo, and not my gripe with your opinion.
@johnvboy Funny you say that. i don't think you are reading or understanding mine.
I said "I think most people affected realise that complaining is futile". I never said that people affected make up the majority, which you know I said as you conceded in your second post that only a minor amount are affected. My gripe is your immediate need to defend "big corporate entity" when you have no benefit either way since as you have said, you have sold your consoles anyway. So again; who is "we"?
@johnvboy "So just how many people are really going to be affected by this, outside of core hobby gamers, I know I sold my systems years ago, the masses would have jumped ship too, I think we are complaining about a problem here that does not even exist."
Well no wonder you don't think it is a problem; you are not affected. Not your monkey, not your circus, right? I think most people affected realise that complaining is futile, but what else do you want people to do; not say anything? And modding is hardly a desirable solution when the legality is questionable.
And so disappears free online gaming on consoles amd also the end of my time playing online multiplayer. Definitely not what I wanted to see when I woke up this morning.
Already have them on PS4 and Switch. The big question is if they are ever going to release the Zero Escape series on Switch; the more people playing that the better.
Bit of a nothing direct. Kind of glad I missed it originally as there isn't much in the way of new announcments. F-99 was not what I meant when I said I wanted a new F-Zero. TTYD was a very nice surprise, and probablt what makes the direct okay, but it is sad that it was the highlight. Mario vs Donkey Kong is appreciated, but why not a brand new one instead?
I think I remember Aonuma saying prior to this interview the reason they made TOTK in the first place was purely because the ideas they had for BOTW DLC grew very ambitious, so it makes perfect sense for no DLC.
From my personal viewpoint, i wasn't too impressed with the DLC for BOTW anyway, so I am not sure I would be interested in DLC for TOTK. In fact, I am very keen to move on to something new (ideally more traditional Zelda, 2D or 3D though unlikely).
Would still love a Yakuza/F-Zero crossover, though it would never happen. I would settle for a new F-Zero or even a remaster of GX. Pity Nintendo will never give it the time of day.
Probably won't bother with this; it is a 2D Mario game, I feel like that says everything you need to know right there, and given I will probably pick it up, I feel like a direct would probably spoil some neat surprises if indeed there are any.
Not happened to me yet thankfully. I noticed the article mentions Amazon particular (though not exclusively), so perhaps that is why I have not had this happen yet; most of my games come from other online shops, primarily TheGameCollection but also GAME and ShopTo, or I pick them up in person.

Not something I'd use, but looks neat. The timing (ha) of this is pretty funny though.

Best announcement of the day. I will buy again to show support. Looking forward to people throwing their switches due to Mahjong.

Damn it. The TOTK one wasn't doing anything for me, but this one has my interest. I might finally get a Lite this September.

Good to see this finally. Guess I should finally get around to finishing Prime 1 and 2 as I only ever finished 3 for whatever reason.

Just make SNES remix already. Been waiting for that since the release of Nes Remix Vol.2

Re: Fighters From Smash Bros. For 3DS Were Leaked By Former NoA Employee's Child
Finally, someone actually had an "uncle" (dad) who worked at Nintendo.
In all seriousness, hope the employee is doing okay and the child has learned to keep secrets better in future.

Some steady sales for this week.
Re: Your 'Nintendo Switch Year In Review 2023' Stats Are Available Now
Bit late with this, but:
586 Hours total play time over 36 games.
Most Played Games:
1. Persona 3 Portable - 152 Hours
1. Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 152 hours
2. Persona 4 Golden - 128 Hours

@Not_Soos Also a fair answer. Couldn't blame anyone for being put off.

Re: Poll: Were You Able To Get The New Super Smash Bros. Ultimate amiibo?
Got them through ShopTo. To be honest, I forgot they were coming out, so it was a nice surprise. They go nicely with my Shulk Amiibo.
Re: Poll: How Many Of You Have Actually Visited 'Minus World' In Super Mario Bros.?
Never been. Always heard about it, but never bothered looking. To be fair though, I don't think I have ever beaten SMB1.
Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Gets A Tasty Limited Time Discount (UK)
Still not worth it to me personally. Good of ShopTo to offer the cheaper price though.
Re: Soapbox: It's Time To Admit That F-Zero X Is The Best F-Zero
I am still awaiting for Toshihiro Nagoshi to get a team together to-do a new F-Zero.
Heck, part of me would enjoy a mix-up where it is half racing, and another half Yakuza/LAD-esque with Captain Falcon or Samurai Goroh.
