Re: Talking Point: Do You Have A 'Way' You Play Certain Switch Games?

MS7000

I play mostly at home, so almost always docked. If for whatever reason I am playing portably, I normally play indie games as the experience is not noticably different. I would much rather have new games experienced on a big screen, but repeat playthroughs are fine on portable, such as Metroid Dread.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Price?

MS7000

@Heavyarms55 "Hey, if you've got all the roms downloaded already, why the hell do you even care about a service like this?"

I'll let you in on a secret; not everyone has roms downloaded. I would love to play these games on Switch. Unfortunately, people seem more than happy to rent games in perpetuity and not keep them. Money is not the issue; the terrible online experience which has not improved since the Wii U days and lack of ownership are the issues. I could play these elsewhere, but if I want Nintendo to put these on Switch a la virtual console, what else to do besides complain.

Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass Price?

MS7000

I'm seeing quite a bit of "This is expensive and ***** me off, but I am still gonna buy it" in the comments so far.

This is how Nintendo gets away with this s*** every time. And the same mentality is why paying for online gaming became a thing.

People have to do what is best for them so if you want to buy then please enjoy, but I urge you; If you don't like this, please do not buy.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

MS7000

@DennisNOR I am not sure if someone has already pointed this out to you, but the biggest gripe (for me at least) is paying for something you will never keep. I've said before in this article that I don't mind paying for games a la virtual console model. Money by itself is not the issue. Your suggestion regarding stopping subscriptions to Netflix, Disney, Youtube etc does not solve the issue. Then there is the fact that it doesn't matter what games they offer now with online play, the online experience is still crap, and no better than before. We are not paying for online infrastructure; just the privilege of using our own internet connections. You said why complain? Why not? The offering might not change if we say anything, but it definitely won't change if we are silent.

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

MS7000

@Kirbo100 This especially. The online experience is no better than it was on the Wii U, which remains free today. I don't believe in paying for online play on consoles when you are already having to arrange your own internet connection with ISPs, but if I absolutely must pay for online, Nintendo should at least make sure it works better than before..

Re: Metroid Dread Staff Say They've Been Left Out Of The Game's Credits, MercurySteam Responds

MS7000

I feel like almost a year is significant enough to warrant a credit, especially since the work was used in the final product.

That said, declaring you will never buy a game until someone is credited seems short-sighted. What about the other developers who also worked on the game? Wouldn't it be better to buy and appreciate the work they all contributed to and spent years working on? One person not getting credit (again, when they should) versus everyone not getting anything at all? Because who cares if you worked and credited on something that wasn't successful?

Re: Japanese Charts: Metroid Dread Outsells Far Cry 6 To Claim Number One

MS7000

@BloodNinja I mean, PS4 sales are roughly in line with JP Metroid Prime Hunters' first week sales of 32,613.

Next highest Metroid first week sales in JP than I can see was Fusion with 49.680, so this debut is great, especially when you factor in digital.

Edit: Now I've double-checked due to the helpful post above, original MP had higher first week sales in JP of 39,828, I originally put Prime Hunters since bizarrely, it seemed as if it did better (because on DS for instance), but no, my fault for not checking properly.

Re: Poll: What's A Fair Price For The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack?

MS7000

Free. Failing that, just make online free again and revert to a Virtual Console like service of buying what you want to play, heck, give it a rebrand such as "Nintendo's Select Classics" because NSO certainly does not improve the online experience.

I hate subscription services, and I am amazed that I stayed subscribed to NSO for as long as I did, but since lapsing at the end of September, I feel no desire to return.

Re: UK Charts: Metroid Dread Just Had The Strongest Opening Week Of Any Metroid Game Ever

MS7000

@JasmineDragon Surprised? No, not really. Still annoyed to high heaven though as it sends the wrong message. As you said, the people buying these games probably buy because of name alone and some will also not realise that the games are ports with minimal added to them (although I am sure people will argue with me that what has been added is quite substantial but that is its own sack of potatoes), but it irks me that people will not give new games a chance.

Re: UK Charts: Metroid Dread Just Had The Strongest Opening Week Of Any Metroid Game Ever

MS7000

@JohnnyC Hopefully, Dread has done enough that it will stand on its own two feet despite being in the other games' shadow.

@Friendly Regarding Monster Hunter, I would argue the game is more appealing due to multiplayer and the simple objective of "Kill the big monster". But the other reason would be that the series has been constantly getting new games over the last 20 years, whilst Metroid games have been a lot more spaced out over the last 35 years; as a result, Monster Hunter is more recognisable so will more likely draw an audience.

Re: UK Charts: Metroid Dread Just Had The Strongest Opening Week Of Any Metroid Game Ever

MS7000

"It's early success makes it the fifth biggest Switch launch of 2021 in the UK so far; only Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Monster Hunter Rise and New Pokémon Snap sold more copies on their debut weeks."

That's irksome that two ports have done better than a new game on Switch, but there you go I suppose. It'll be nice to get definite numbers on sales.

Re: Video: Why Didn't Square Enix Port The Kingdom Hearts Collection To Switch?

MS7000

MVG is probably correct on a lot of the reasoning as to why SE don't want to properly port the games. That said, I doubt any of that makes fans feel better about having this half-baked solution. Heck knows I would be mad if I cared about Kingdom Hearts, but Disney and Final Fantasy mean very little to me as I never grew up with either, so by extension, KH is irrelevant to me.

@Sakaixx "It just doesnt make sense why you want a physical version and Persona Strikers did show in the end Switch version was pretty neglected as most bought on PS4."

Regarding P5 Strikers, the game is fantastic mechanically and does feel like a proper persona game despite going to hack-and-slash. But it also feels like a sequel; in a good way mind you, but to the point that it is just expected for you to like the characters without knowing anything about them and have full understanding of the setting of Persona when it could be argued a good portion of people playing the game on Switch would never have played Persona before. It's no wonder the game didn't sell as well on Switch. They should have put actual P5 on Switch first, then maybe it would of done better. For reference though, I own it on both, game is great. =)

Re: Nintendo Share Value Continues Downward Trend As Major Investor Reportedly 'Dumps' Stock

MS7000

@progx True. But it feels like whenever I see these articles that it is almost always one of the first three comments. Probably not actually the case but... shrug

Anyway, in relation to the article:

"It'll be interesting to see what the company does in the medium-to-long term to boost profits and keep shareholders happy."

I feel it would be more interesting to see what they do for their fans rather than their investors no matter how important their financial health is, but that is just me... speaking of which, F-Zero when Nintendo?

Re: Three Kingdom Hearts Games Are Coming To Switch, But They're All Cloud Versions

MS7000

@Pak-Man Pretty much the reasons you listed; not to mention that the Cloud feels especially stupid on Switch given that despite it being marketed as a home console, ultimately, the gimmick is still to take it with you on the go. Cloud gaming is not practical portably. It defeats the whole point of having the Switch. There is also the fact that the game will be eventually unavailable. Sure, physical copies could also be destroyed due to passage of time or whatever (or heck, even digital copies of games), but at least you can play those portably since you don't have to worry about the connection.

Re: Three Kingdom Hearts Games Are Coming To Switch, But They're All Cloud Versions

MS7000

Eww cloud... cloud...

...cloud...

Okay, now that bit is out of the way, I do actually own all these on PS4 funnily enough. I have just never gotten around to playing them as Disney was never that big a thing in my life growing up and neither was Final Fantasy. I played the first one for a few hours, but have not gone back since...

Ehh, I'll try again eventually.
