Re: Nintendo Direct Confirmed For Tomorrow

MS7000

Just gonna copy and paste a recent comment from 2023 predictions:

New Paper Mario with another stupid battle gimmick. Metroid Prime 4 cancelled. New Pokemon Gacha game. NSO Price rise. Donkey Kong Banana Eating Simulator.

If I expect the worse, it can only get better right?

...

RIGHT?!

Re: Digital Sales Make Up Nearly Half Of FY 2023 Switch Software Sales So Far

MS7000

I am amazed digital can even flourish on the Switch given the lack of memory. You can upgrade your microSD sure, but only up to a 1TB, not to mention a 1TB microSD will cost you around £120ish. I have been stuck on a 512gb microSD for at least a year, and I don't even consider myself a digital heavy user; I may own a lot of digital, but this is normally because it is only available via digital like the recent releases of Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable, or the physical is being handled by a company like LimitedRun so it is overpriced (to me, I am sure there will be some people who defend the price).

Re: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe And Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Cross Major Sales Milestones

MS7000

I am sure that I will get flack for this and I am not trying to put the author down here, but did you need a separate article for this? I quote the following paragraph from the milestones article which you have linked in this one:

"Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to be unstoppable, racing past 50 million units sold. Up to 31st December 2022, the racing game has sold an incredible 52 million units. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has also surpassed 30 million units."

I am not sure why you would extrapolate an article when it was said so succinctly in another?

Re: Star Fox 64 Follow-Up Title Was Pitched For Wii U, But Retro Studios Passed On It

MS7000

@mariomaster96 To be fair, they had some help with the New 3DS port (Monster Games), but otherwise yeah, fairly accurate. I feel like we are long overdue a new title from Retro Studios.

Regarding this idea for StarFox, it would of been interesting to see the puppet presentation, but the rest of the pitch I am not too fussed about, generally not a fan of online focus; though it could of been cool.

Re: Talking Point: Who Did You Marry In Fire Emblem: Awakening?

MS7000

I ended up marrying Tharja in my first playthrough, though I didn't realise that was happening until I did it. That said however, don't really have any regrets. I normally now marry Lucina, Cordelia, Tiki or Panne whenever playing now because of Morgan, but Tharja still holds a place for me.

Re: Soapbox: Wario Land 4 Deserves More Love, And Indie Devs Are Doing What Nintendon't

MS7000

I can appreciate Wario Land 4, the general style is wacky and everything, but i actually don't like the frog mechanic that is being praised in the article. I remember some levels required deviating from the exit to get items, and running out of time and losing my progress as a result. Kind of sapped my motivation for playing. Its also why I still haven't finished Shake It as the gameplay is similar in concept, although the artstyle and animation is top notch.

I feel like Wario Land 3 was the best, as it better gave the illusion of freedom to explore since not all treasures are required to beat the game, and it was always a joy to explore the levels and see what had changed after you nabbed treasure elsewhere. Either way though, would love for the series to be revived. I am fairly sure I have mentioned it many a time whenever a Direct comes rolling around.

Re: Talking Point: 15 Years On, Should Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Subspace Emissary Return?

MS7000

I think there was a recent forum discussion about what to expect in a new Smash. I would love for a new SSE to be made, although perhaps it need not be as part of Smash bros, but perhaps it's own entity entirely. I think there is a limit as to what can be done within Smash gameplay for this sort of thing. Whilst I remember SSE more fondly, I think World of Light was probably the more polished and interesting idea.

Re: Feature: Best Japan-Exclusive 3DS Games - 13 Titles We Wish Had Come To The West

MS7000

The Dragon Quest titles are probably the ones I am most sad about, Dragon Quest XI on 3DS always looked great to play on a long-trip. Of course, you can play it on Switch, but not the same experience as the 3DS and console versions are wildly different in presentation. I have hope DQ Theatrhythm will make it to the Switch eventually give they now have FF Theatrhythm coming to Switch.

Re: Splatoon 3's Next Splatfest Is On The Way, Which Team Will You Pick?

MS7000

I don't know why, but the chocolate in that artwork does not look particular appetizing.

Depending on how dark the chocolate, I would probably lean towards it, but it depends if we are talking something like a Bournville bar, or one of those speciality 80% bars. The latter can burn in a fire; it would probably make it taste better.

Re: Random: This Nintendo Direct Feels Incredibly Quaint Just 10 Years On

MS7000

A lot of stuff happened in this direct. The Famicom 30th anniversary gave us those VC games for quite cheap (I really fricking miss VC, very underappreciated lost with the Switch). I do find it wacky that a good portion had to be dedicated to an update to promise a faster system. I remember being really excited for Xeno X (then X) when it was first revealed.

I would love for this type of direct to come back, but to be honest, I don't think we have any personalities as interesting as Iwata when it comes to these presentations.

Re: Random: Pocket Card Jockey Director Is 'Sad' About The 3DS eShop Closure

MS7000

I am sad it is closing, and still trying to get everything I want from it and the Wii U eShops prior to closure. There are still a lot of games which will be stuck in the void, and unique stereoscopic 3D versions of classic games, which will be forever lost.

I am still holding out hope for a final blowout sale for things I am missing, but I am not sure if that will happen or not. I am missing a lot of DLC; for various SMT games, FE Echoes, Mario Tennis, Gold, NSMB2 etc. Time is ticking.

Re: Persona 3 Portable Audio Patch Supposedly In The Works For Switch

MS7000

I've not noticed anything, but then again, it is also my first time playing through the game, beyond a brief 1-hour play around on my Vita, so difficult to say for me. I'll have to see if I notice a difference when it is patched.

Enjoying P3P quite a bit. Just got to the summer break in the game.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Fire Emblem Engage?

MS7000

@gq_foine This is bait right? An arbitrary score for a singular title does not mean they are any more or less a fan of something, even if that one instance is viewed negatively. Are you seriously saying you don't have any series where you have at least one entry that doesn't do things wrong? If not, then why bother looking forward to what comes next, why not just stick with the one entry and play that endlessly? Are all the people who commented here who disliked Three Houses (assume score of 7 or lower) but love Engage not real fans? Is there even such a thing as a true fan? I don't know.

On an unrelated note, has been interesting reading through the comments. Engage certainly seems divisive, but at least people are talking about it. Nothing worse for anything than to be forgotten.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Fire Emblem Engage?

MS7000

Won't vote, as do not own, nor have played, so wouldn't be fair to judge at all. The only thing I can go off is the first 40 minutes or so I have seen of the game. The dialogue is stupidly goofy. "I am known as Marth; Emblem Marth to be clear", the heck what? If you going to rely on old characters to prop up these new characters, at least make them the actual characters. It feels like a retread of Awakening's opening with Alear having memory loss and essentially starting with a seemingly final battle, with the difference of instead having Frederick's healthy scepticism to a nobody, you have this old knight grandad and his twin grandkids who overly worship you. And of course as soon as you wake up, you get attacked.

With all of the above said, gameplay looks fine, the technical side of it looks great from the animations etc. I don't like the character designs, but they are far from offensive. I just can't get past the seemingly nerfed story. I have seen comments say it picks up after 10 or so chapters, but is it really worth the slog to finally get invested?

Re: Poll: Do You Want Weapon Degradation To Return In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

MS7000

Whilst durability isn't perfect, it is also far down my list of problems with BOTW so I would rather they fix other issues first. My main gripe is the same as Gavin's though; the Master Sword should be the Master Sword for a reason.

When it comes to experimentation, since the majority of weapons fall into 1 of 3 types, I found in my playthrough was to use the weakest weapons as much as possible to hold on to the strong weapons for bosses. It also meant my inventory is very similar throughoht my playthough as you never know when you are going to need the weapons, which makes me feel experimentation was actually discouraged, though again, there wasn't much room.

I would like less weapons, but more movesets with durability scrapped if I am being honest. Heck, they could offer the weapons in place of items in the dungeons since they seem obsessed with the same runes.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Fire Emblem Engage

MS7000

So the consensus is great gameplay, not so great story/characters/worldbuilding. Unfortunately for me, this makes this a pass for me at this time. I joined with Awakening, but overall, I wouldn't say tactical rpgs are my favourite genre, so I am more here for the other aspects to interest me.

I think I might finally give Echoes a try since I have a copy.

Re: Feature: Which Zelda Games Should You Replay Before Tears Of The Kingdom?

MS7000

I probably will replay a Zelda at some point in the next few months, but not because TOTK is coming out; just because Zelda games are good, so fun to revisit. I haven't done Wind Waker in a hot-minute so maybe that, otherwise probably one of the ones playable on 3DS (OOT3D MM3D, A Link Between Worlds, Minish Cap if lucky to have ambasssador program).

Re: Random: Masahiro Sakurai Says He Prefers To Buy Video Games Digitally

MS7000

Sakurai is a very practical man; he uses his limited space the best he can, hence the digital copies for convenience and the ring binders for his discs (crime against humanity that one). That said, when we say physical vs digital, what we are really asking is what gives us more protection as consumers. Digital weighs heavily in favour of businesses as there is no expectation on them to enable us to continue accessing the game you paid for. Until this is enshrined in law, I would take my chances with physical every time. Sure, the discs could break, but I have yet to have that issue in the past 25 years. Not to mention, from a collector's viewpoint, physical is nicer to look at, especially with all the beautiful boxarts.

Re: Hands On: Fire Emblem Engage Is Surprisingly Fast-Paced And Delightfully Deep

MS7000

@Ulysses I think that is equally as valid. I quite like Three Houses art style, but the edges are as jaggy as mountains. The school aspect in and of itself wasn't what drew me to Three Houses though. I feel like Three Houses did what Fates was trying to do better in every way in regards to the choosing your path and the consequences of the choices, and conflict of fighting old allies. I think that is why Engage's story is not interesting me as yet as it doesn't feel anywhere near as ambitious. Maybe if I play it, I might be pleasantly surprised, but I just can't see it at present.

Re: Hands On: Fire Emblem Engage Is Surprisingly Fast-Paced And Delightfully Deep

MS7000

...I don't know. Even after reading this, still not feeling this one. There's something about it that is putting me off. What little I've heard of the story and concept doesn't particularly interest me; here are magical rings that summons legendary hero, which might sound good if the concept hadn't already been done within Awakening with the Einherjar or even Heroes with the whole gacha mechanic. On a technical level, the game looks decent, but the general art direction and design just feel kind of generic and safe(?), I am not sure how to describe. The characters don't look interesting to me, and whenever they show past heroes, they look off to me. I might get it down the line eventually, but this doesn't interest me in the same way that Three Houses did.

Re: Video: We Hereby Declare That 2023 Will Be The Year Of 3DS Street Pass

MS7000

@AstroTheGamosian I used play coins for the first few panels, but I never managed to get all of the pink panels unfortunately. I am kind of hoping that maybe Nintendo will do a last minute update where pink panels could be acquired with play coins when they are ready to shutdown the 3DS servers entirely as I don't realistically think I will encounter anyone who has them.

Re: Soapbox: If You Thought Last Year Was "Sad" For Switch, 2023 Might Be Hard To Handle

MS7000

2022 for Switch was disappointing for me. My recap shows Stardew Valley as my most played game last year on Switch at around 80 hours, which speaks to how little time I have been playing games on the thing. There were one or two games of interest, sure, but the problem I am having with the Switch is that all the games I am mostly excited for were either announced years ago, don't have a release date 6 months away or less, or a combination of both of the above. Games which are primarily online based such as Splatoon 3 or Mario Strikers have no worth to me since I stopped subscribing to NSO. Even if it is "cheap", the experience is the same as when it was free. MK8 DLC also is worthless to me for the same reason. I am not sure whether my demands are becoming too niche or whatever.

I think I spent most of my time on my PS4 playing games I started and dropped halfway through, or games that have been sat on my shelf for years such as God of War 2018, Two Point Hospital, Nier Replicant to name a few.

I hope we get some firm dates for Pikmin 4 and Metroid Prime 4 very soon. Maybe a new Rhythm Heaven, that at least sounds doable.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Gets Official ESRB Rating

MS7000

@Chalkfire As TeaCatherine said, Twilight Princess was T, and so was Majora's Mask originally. the other mainline games have been E or a variant as such (E10+). The Warriors' games and Link's Crossbow Training are also T.

That said, I would like another "dark" Zelda. I still don't know enough about this new one whether I am looking forward to it or not.

Re: Kung Fury: Street Rage Cabinet Hits Arcade Paradise In January

MS7000

@tameshiyaku Not entirely sure. I believe there was a lawsuit between the producers and a group who were meant to be investing two thirds of the film's budget, so money issues(?), but apparently the actual filming is done. They just need to finish post-production. It was meant to come out this year apparently, but I am doubtful that is happening now.
