Re: Konami Just Surprise-Launched A Brand New Action Platformer On Switch

Krisi

@BANJO Yeah, a new Goemon game would be great. We've had more than one per year in average since the series started, then it just completely stopped in 2005. A Goemon ReBirth would've been awesome when Konami made all those ReBirth titles on the Wii, but no such luck...

Even a Goemon collection in the style of the Castlevania and Contra ones would be lovely.

...At least we have Mr. Goemon on Switch, am I right?...

Re: DAL's Item Services Don't Appear To Be Available On Mystery Island Tours In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Krisi

@ROBLOGNICK It enables you to send items to your storage or to the store drop-off box from the airport, without needing to go back to your island. Meaning if you find an island with a lot of scorpions for example, you could keep catching them and sending them back home all night, making a lot of profit.

...except it only works for Harv's Island at the moment. Which is probably an oversight, because you don't really get any items there, so it's pretty much pointless.

Re: Nintendo Is Developing New Mobile Games, But Isn't Ready To Announce Anything Just Yet

Krisi

Meh.
Some of Nintendo's mobile offerings were cool enough, but I've come to realize how much I HATE free to play games. All of them. Some of them are fun enough to play even if you don't pay anything, but all of them are built in a way so you either have to spend money at one point to get forward, or spend a ton of time grinding for stuff that's not really fun but you've invested so much time or money into the game that you don't want to stop, because then you would think that all of your time has been wasted (which is mostly true anyway).

The one I was into the most was Pokémon Shuffle. I absolutely loved that game. I caught every Pokémon, and every variation of all of them, cleared all the extra challenges, made different teams and what not, without ever spending a single penny. I was constantly looking at online discussions for new strats, and by the end of it all, I've put in around 1,500 hours into the game. I only really realized how much time I've wasted with the game after putting it down.
To attempt a stage, you need a heart. A heart regenerates in 30 minutes, and you can only hold a maximum of 5 at a time. To absolutely get everything that would disappear after a week, and also have enough time to power up your Pokémon and collect some in-game money, you have to use as many hearts as possible, which means playing the game once every 2.5 hours. I can't count how many times I've stopped work to play for a few minutes, went out to my 3DS at family gatherings, played right before getting out of the car to go shopping with my fiancée, didn't go to bed the same time as her because "the next heart was only 7 minutes away, I gotta use up that one first".

I mean I really did enjoy many aspects of the game, but most of it was actually grinding, and it was conflicting with everything else I was doing. It was actually very uplifting to stop.

I recently stopped playing Mario Kart Tour, because it was pretty much the same, even if it seems very different. You have to play the same stages over and over again, sometimes with minor tweaks to get through the cups, and you have to play them even more times to get better score or finish some missions.

So all in all, while it was obvious from the beginning, I've come to really realize that all free to play games just offer much more shallow experiences no matter what, and yet you have to play them for much longer to get anywhere. They are just bad games, no matter how much they can seem like good games.

Re: Rumour: Pikmin 3 Deluxe Reportedly In The Works For Nintendo Switch

Krisi

I freaking love Pikmin 3. It's an amazing game.
However, there's no way in heck I will buy this, except maybe years later at a very big discount, if the game has some worthwhile additions.
All of this is pretty sad, because I'm pretty sure many people wouldn't buy something like this, and they would think that there's no point in making a new entry, but in fact, I would definitely buy Pikmin 4.
A Pikmin Trilogy would be pretty cool though. I probably wouldn't buy that either, because I have the games separately already, but still.

Re: A "Bonus One-Off" Splatfest Will Take Place In Splatoon 2 Next Month

Krisi

Team mayo all the freaking way.
Mayo is just so much more versatile. You can put ketchup on burgers, hot dogs, omurice... and that's pretty much it.
Mayo, however... You can put it on the same things, plus you can make mayo-based salads out of it (like potato salad), it's the basis for tartar sauce and goes really well with fish and seafood (as mayo or tartar), is a staple of any cold plate, and it makes sandwiches a thousand times better. Not to mention it's quite easy to make at home.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Metroidvania Games

Krisi

What about Super Metroid? It's awesome, and it's playable on Switch.

Oh, and why Stantae 4 instead of 3? Not only is Pirate's Curse a better game, but it's more of a Metroidvania. Half-Genie Hero is almost a linear platformer. Still a great game, though.

Re: Angry Players Are Starting To Review-Bomb Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Krisi

Meh, I actually enjoy living on the same island as the love of my life. I am surely crazy.

Plus you already needed a separate cartridge/memory card/system for separate towns in the older games as well, so this is not that different. Multiple players living in the same town was always the norm.

I don't really agree with player 1 taking center stage again though, as the others have a bit less to do. It's not much of a problem for us in this instance as we're both active players (and will probably be for some time), but I player New Leaf with my brother, where he was the mayor and stopped playing after like 2 days, and I could barely do many things, and had to play with his account quite a lot to be able to progress in many areas.

Re: Random: Sorry, The Froggy Chair Doesn’t Seem To Be In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Krisi

@rjejr Do you mean Kapp'n? He's actually a kappa, a Japanese youkai that lives in rivers, but he was localized as a turtle, because most people outside of Japan (especially in 2002) don't really know what a Kappa is, and since it's a water-dwelling creature with a shell, the easiest thing to say was that he's a turtle.
Same with Tom Nook. He was localized as a raccoon, but is actually a tanuki, a different animal, that's only really known in Japan. They also have special powers in Japanese mythology, like turning leaves into money and various items to fool random people. That's where the whole thing comes from that items in Animal Crossing are represented and stored as leaves.

Re: Rumour: Sony Could Be Raiding Konami For Castlevania, Metal Gear And Silent Hill IP

Krisi

Well, it's interesting news... Especially that Castlevania is much more associated with Nintendo than Sony. It would be weird if no more Castlevania games could be released on Nintendo consoles, not even re-releases of ones that were originally released for Nintendo systems, like the NES trilogy.
Losing Metal Gear and Silent Hill would hurt as well, but a bit less, as those franchises were already mostly associated with Sony, and only had a few games on Nintendo systems. It makes me wonder what would happen to Smash though, as it has both Metal Gear and Castlevania characters in it. Or maybe Sony would do something like what Microsoft does with Minecraft, as in let these games be released on other consoles and profit from them that way.

Anyway, time for Nintendo to but Goemon! We freaking need a new game after 15 years.
