Re: Feature: Best Pokémon Games Of All Time

Krisi

@Barbara001 I'm glad you liked it.
For me though, it added almost nothing other than nicer graphics and sound, and took away tons of stuff from both the original and the modern Pokémon games. I felt that FireRed/LeafGreen were much better remakes. Sure, they didn't look or sound this good, but they were fine for the time, had everything that was in the original, while having every single Pokémon released up to that point, and all the new mechanics, plus even some completely new features (like the VS Seeker and Game Checker), plus it had 7 completely new islands with a new storyline to explore.

Having every single region is pretty much impossible though, sadly. It was impossible before, as it would essentially take an extremely larger amount of money and time to implement, while the game wouldn't sell that many more copies to make up for the extra cost (plus then who would care about newer games if they went back to one region per game again). But now that GF goesn't even want to put every Pokémon in the game, which would take astronomically less time and money, all regions is even more so out of the picture.

Re: Feature: Best Pokémon Games Of All Time

Krisi

@Barbara001 Well, our opinions are extremely different, as I found X/Y, S/M/US/UM, ans ESPECIALLY Let's Go to be some of the weakest entries in the main series, while G/S/C and its remakes are some of the best in my opinion.

Re: Feature: Best Pokémon Games Of All Time

Krisi

Wow, B/W that low? I still think it's the best set of Pokémon games to date (followed by HG/SS and B2W2).
And it's a bit weird how Platinum is so much higher up than DP (as somehow the minor adjustments elevate it from the least good to the third best somehow), yet USUM is rated lower than SM.

Re: Soapbox: Why Sword And Shield's Pokémon Purge Will Benefit Everyone

Krisi

No, just no.
And yes, I read the entire article.

Pokémon generates incredible amounts of money. Plus the models of old Pokémon look pretty much the same here as the HD versions of 3DS models (which can be seen with proper emulation).

Giving us far less options is just bad. You can't excuse it. Maybe if it was a studio with smaller revenue and/or if they really had to recreate the models and animations from scratch. But no.

Re: A Forgotten (And Kirby-Free) HAL SNES Title Has Been Preserved For The Ages

Krisi

@KingBowser86 Yep, both Air Ride and Dream Course are underappreciated gems, easily the best of the Kirby spinoff games.
Tilt n Tumble was actually pretty good as well, but I found it a bit monotonous after a while. And you can pretty much only play it on a Game Boy Color or an original Advance, so there's that.
Star Stacker was fun and stuff, but it didn't grab me that much.

Re: A Forgotten (And Kirby-Free) HAL SNES Title Has Been Preserved For The Ages

Krisi

@retro_player_22 Except they changed the whole game (including many mechanics) to fit Kirby after they decided to change the protagonist, and the game came out as part of the Kirby series even in Japan.

Anyway, Kirby's Dream Course is an absolutely brilliant, extremely well thought out and polished game both in single player and multiplayer, and it needs much more attention. It's incredibly deep yet approachable, but I guess most people only see it as "the Kirby golf spinoff".

Re: Review: Collection of Mana - Expensive, But Ultimately Worth Every Penny

Krisi

I liked Secret of Mana, but saying that it's one of the finest RPGs ever is very, very much of an overstatement - one that only somebody with a great amount of nostalgia for it could say.

I played it "back in the day" - actually around 2005 when I was 13 - and really liked it. I could never get incredibly far, because my copy was in German, a language I couldn't speak, but I really liked it.

A few years ago I got to play the game properly on the Wii VC, and actually completed it, and while I still liked it, it just had too many flaws to truly be great. Hit detection is iffy, many areas feel incredibly unfinished or unutilized (especially in the second half), the system for magic levelling is just bad (you either spam every magic for hours on random enemies or they will remain weak for the entirety of the game), the bosses are laughable once you have enough spells, and the last few weapon upgrades are absolutely useless, as you can only get the necessary things in the final dungeon by very rare enemy drops (and sometimes you even need more than one), and even if you happen to find one, you have to backtrack possibly from the very end to the blacksmith and then again back to the end of the last dungeon. Oh, and it's incredibly hard to find anything while flying, and there isn't even a minimap if I remember correctly.

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th June (Europe)

Krisi

@Ventilator Yeah, I like Pooyan, but I already have it for the Famicom, and also the Arcade version on Konami Arcade Classics for the DS. But Mr Goemon isn't on something I own (it's only on the X360 and PS4 other than the arcade cabinet), and it's pretty much the only game in the series I don't own yet.

Re: Nintendo Download: 13th June (Europe)

Krisi

Out of these, Cadence interests me the most, but I'll definitely wait for a sale.

And Pooyan is fine I guess, but if we're talking about Konami arcade classics, where's Mr Goemon? I've been waiting for that for over two years.

Re: The Next DLC Fighter For Smash Ultimate Will Be Revealed At Nintendo's E3 Direct

Krisi

@SKTTR I think unrepresented franchises with music in the game in the "other" category are also deconfirmed, because they usually have a different category, and taking them out of one and putting them into another would also change what stages can play what music.

So because of this, and also the fact that almost every Nintendo character that has any chance already has a spirit, I strongly believe that only 3rd party characters will be DLC. And, you know, someone from Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Mike Jones is a special case because neither of the Startropics games came out in Japan in any way, so pretty much everyone working on the core game is probably unaware they even exist.

Re: The Next DLC Fighter For Smash Ultimate Will Be Revealed At Nintendo's E3 Direct

Krisi

@Majora101 Sure, a random 3d platforming duo from the 90's who people remember for their two games in a semi-unpopular Nintendo console deserves representation far more than the franchise that is the father of one of the biggest gaming genres, the JRPGs.
Not to mention DQ had far more games and is a Japanese franchise, something Smash (and Japanese companies in general) prefer much over Western franchises and companies. Oh, and Dragon Quest is still extremely popular in Japan to this day, to the point that even most people not familiar with video games know what it is, or recognize the slimes at least.
Sure, the Banjo games had some hand in popularizing the 3D platformer genre, but they still would have existed without them (Mario 64, for example had a much bigger role in the matter, and came out earlier), but we probably wouldn't have got Final Fantasy, the Mother series, Golden Sun, or heck, even Pokémon if it wasn't for Dragon Quest.

...That said, I really enjoyed both Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, and think that they could be really fun in Smash and that they have quite a chance to be in. But saying BK is "200% more deserving" than Dragon Quest is just laughable.

Re: Soapbox: In Praise Of Save States, Rewinds And Walkthroughs

Krisi

I've never beaten a game with save states or rewinding. Yes, I too have too many games to play and too little time, but I always think it's much better to finish a game the way it was intended. For example, Pac-Land on the Famicom took me years, for example. But in the end, when I managed to finish it, it felt awesome. It just feels dirty to cheat a game that way.
I've used guides here or there though, but mostly for just 100% completion or just basic controls or tips.

Re: A New Pokémon Game Has Just Launched On Smartphones

Krisi

Cool I guess, but the Rumble games are definitely by far the bottom of the barrel when it comes to Pokémon games. Well, aside from the other ones developed by Ambrella, namely Hey You Pikachu, Pokémon Channel, and easily the worst one of all: Pokémon Dash.

Re: Nintendo Adds Three More Games To The Switch Online NES Library Next Week

Krisi

Donkey Kong Jr. is fun enough, and it's a classic, so sure, we had to had it by some point.
The others, however...
I absolutely LOVE Clu Clu Land. Sure, it's very simple, and has a weird control scheme, but I just find it so fun and addicting, even though it's definitely not much of a classic.
VS. Excitebike is awesome. Regular Excitebike is well-loved as it is, but getting this Japanese-exclusive, kinda rare version that adds tons of stuff and makes other things more user friendly is just a treat.

I do understand why some people are underwhelmed by this month's choices, as they are all mostly high score based, shorter games.

Re: Random: 23,000 Fans Petitioned To Get Reggie A New Chair, And It Worked

Krisi

I still find this ridiculous. I mean sure, Reggie deserves all kinds of good stuff, but seriously. I have been sitting in an office chair that I'm guessing costs a fraction of Reggie's old chair, and I've had exactly zero problems with it. Now why companies spend (no, waste) such incredible amounts of money on overly expensive chairs or why does anyone care if an ex company president gets one is way beyond me.

Re: Review: Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection - Perfectly Functional, But Not Much Else

Krisi

Actually, the Famicom, Game Boy, and Super Famicom versions of Parodius da! were all released in Europe simply as Parodius, the arcade version of Gokujou Parodius was released as Fantastic Journey, and a compilation of these two games' arcade versions were released on both the PS1 and the Sega Saturn simply as Parodius again. Oh, and Konami GB Collection Vol. 2 also had a colorized version of the Game Boy version of Parodius da!. All of these were only in Europe, sure, but at least they were somewhat localized... Even if these games need no localization at all.

Re: New Yo-Kai Watch 4 Characters, Explorable World And More Revealed

Krisi

@BeanoWild It doesn't really have anything in common with Pokémon other than the fact it has a contemporary setting and you can collect creatures to fight for you in an RPG-esque fashion. The world, your and the monsters' role in it, the battle system, the focus, the way the story is presented, and the general tone is quite different.
And Level-5 is the developer, not Nintendo.
