Re: One Of Pokémon's First-Ever Designs Was A Cute Godzilla, But It Didn't Make The Cut

Krisi

Well, I don't really think it resembles Tyranitar, maybe just with the color scheme in the fanart. Plus both (the original design of) the substitute doll and the Gym statues were based on Rhydon.
Many of the first few Pokémon created were based on this kaijuu-like appearance, like Rhydon, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Kangaskhan, and the unreleased Omega and Gyaoon, and I don't think Gojirante/Godzillante resembles Tyranitar much more than these, so I don't think it was necessarily a direct inspiration. Not to mention I think that's a single horn on its head, not the eye things the fan recreation implies.

Re: Untitled Goose Game Dev Wins The 2019 Golden Joystick Breakthrough Award

Krisi

@nessisonett I see. I only played the PS1 version of Resi 2, but I loved that. I can see how good audiowork could make stuff like that even more tense and scary.

However, to someone like me who loves video game music, something like Smash is just a treasure trove. Sure, original songs are not the main attraction (even though they are very good as well), but it has many Smash-exclusive remixes that are very different from the originals, and are great to listen to. Like that remix of King Dedede's theme with Japanese instruments that sounds like a showdown between two samurai or something. I never get tired of this soundtrack, and being something I can listen to for hours on end even when I'm not playing, is very special.

Re: Konami Hasn't Completely Forgotten About Its Mystical Ninja Goemon

Krisi

@cheetahman91 Well, we already have two of those, sadly. They do have great soundtracks, though.

@KingBowser86 If you enjoyed that, I have some great news: it's the most used formula for Goemon games. You could either try Ganbare Goemon 2 or Dancer ni Natta Wake for the SNES, Hoshizorashi Dynamites Arawaru for the Game Boy Color, Ooedo Daikaiten or Shin Sedai Shuumei for the PS1, or New Age Shutsudou for the GBA (although that's easily the weakest one), as they all play quite similarly, and can be played through without knowledge of Japanese for the most part, you might only need some walkthroughs for the town sections. Out of these, probably Goemon 2 and Ooedo Daikaiten are the best ones, but almost all are great.

@chiefeagle02 Well, we did get Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for the VC... The horrible Game Boy game for the 3DS Virtual Console, one of THREE games with that exact English title, and also quite easily the worst game of the entire series, sadly. Too bad they decided to pick that one for localization back in the day, when even the other Game Boy Goemon game, released like 6 years before was much superior in pretty much every way. I mean only 6 Goemon games made it overseas in any shape out of something like 30 titles, why does the worst entry have to be one of them?

@Nic-Noc20th-C I don't think it was because of size restrictions, it was probably because for some reason, Nintendo only decided to release 1st (and 2nd) party N64 titles on the Virtual Console.

Re: Konami Hasn't Completely Forgotten About Its Mystical Ninja Goemon

Krisi

Too bad this kind of thing usually doesn't mean anything. I'm the biggest Goemon fan I know (as I own every game in the series, and finished all of them except for the terrible Game Boy game we got, the PS2 game because I don't have a Japanese PS2, and the arcade game Mr. Goemon because I only got it like two days ago, but I definitely want to finish that one), so I would be overjoyed with anything.
Even just a collection. I've had some ideas what a realistic Castlevania/Contra style collection for the Switch would look like (and it sadly doesn't include the fan-favorite N64 game). A remaster would probably be even better, but obviously, a new game would be the best... I guess. I don't know if Konami could make a new Goemon game nowadays. Honestly, the best people to handle the new game would probably be Good Feel of all people (makers of such games as Kirby's Epic Yarn and the recent Yoshi games). as it's a company founded by the main people behind the old Goemon games. It's no wonder the last true game in the series came out in 2005, that's when they left Konami and created Good Feel.

Anyway, him being in Smash as a playable character would be amazing. Not as a Mii costume (although I'm grateful for even that), but as an actual fighter with his own stage and music.

Re: Two Spooky NES Games Are Creeping Onto The Switch eShop This Week

Krisi

This reminds me, Nintendo should add some spooky games to the NES and/or SNES apps for Halloween. Even if it's just one per console. Like Monster Party or Ghosts and Goblins or Gargoyle's Quest 2 for the NES, and Zombies Ate My Neighbors for the SNES. I would've also said maybe Clock Tower for the SNES, but we know it's not happening because of multiple reasons.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #13 - Goemon's Great Adventure

Krisi

The Japanese version is the best, but the European box art is nice as well. Konami had much better boxarts in the N64 days in Europe than it did in the US. I mean, have you seen the Castlevania 64 covers?

Anyway, Goemon for Smash, Goemon collection for the Switch, a new game, etc etc. I mean Goemon is my favorite non-Nintendo series, and I think it deserves much more love than it has right now, even if it does have a cult following.

Re: Did Hideki Kamiya And Ikumi Nakamura Just Tease An Okami Sequel?

Krisi

@Broosh I actually found the very beginning a bit boring, and the overall opening act a bit underwhelming as well, but I really got into it after that. It was kind of the same with Twilight Princess as well. Which is funny, because both are games with a very similar formula from 2006, and with wolves as the main characters.

Re: Watch: Pokémon Sword And Shield's 24-Hour Livestream Is Now Live

Krisi

@TheLightSpirit But the on-rails part is what made Snap interesting, challenging, and fast-paced. I'd take skill based, fast paced gameplay where you have to look for opportunities and adjust to situations any day over being able to go anywhere anytime and have to potentially wait around for something to show up.

Re: Mario & Luigi RPG Dev AlphaDream Files For Bankruptcy

Krisi

Well, this is sad. But not thatc surprising. The two remakes they put out were pretty pointless, especially Bowser's Inside Story. Don't get me wrong, it's a great game, but when you can play the exact game same on the same system just with a slightly lower resolution and a slightly different spritework, what's even the point?

Anyway, let's look at the bright side: Nintendo said they were keeping the Paper Mario series as experimental games, because why have two different Mario RPG series' at the same time? Now we have a chance to finally get a real sequel to the first two Paper Mario games, which are absolutely some of the best games ever created, no questions asked. The first one is easily the best game on the N64, and the second one is the best game on the GameCube. In my opinion, at least.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #8 - Metal Gear

Krisi

I love how Metal Gear itself is not on the Japanese boxart, yet it is on the MSX version - just like how the mech doesn't appear in the Famicom/NES versions. It does look cooler with it, so the Western versions win.

Awesome game though, but I only played the MSX version. Truly ahead of its time.

Re: Feature: Best GameCube Games

Krisi

@RushDawg No way. Prime had some things over Prime 2, but I felt that 2 was much more coherent and interesting. Not to mention first person platforming is just the worst thing ever, and Prime 2 has much less of it, and even then, you get the Space Jump MUCH sooner, making it much more manageable.

Pikmin 2 is great, and just like in the previous case, it definitely has stuff that's better than in the first game, but I feel that Pikmin 1 has much better level design and a better atmosphere. It's kind of a quality versus quantity case for me, as Pikmin 2 has much more content, but what 1 has is comparatively better and more interesting in my opinion.

Re: Feature: Best GameCube Games

Krisi

Not a bad list, but...
No Kirby Air Ride?
Pikmin 2 over Pikmin 1?
Metroid Prime over Metroid Prime 2?

You guys are weird.

Oh, and collections shouldn't really be on this. Neither ports like Resi 2. In my opinion.

Re: Guide: The 20 SNES Games Coming To Nintendo Switch Today, Ranked By Us

Krisi

Stone me or anything, but I think F-Zero is a better, more fun game than F-Zero X on the N64.

Also, Kirby's Dream Course is underrated. It's an absolute masterpiece, and pretty much a one of a kind experience. It looks like a minigolf game or whatever, but it's actually a really challenging action-puzzle game with tons of content, really creative challenges, and a brilliant two-player mode.

Re: Review: Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy Of The Duelist: Link Evolution - A Decent Card Battler For Your Switch

Krisi

Yeah, I came here to comment about card draws being too random as well... I just don't get it. There are tons of cards for getting exactly what you want, and you can build your deck in such a way so you can use the cards together pretty much no matter what your hand is, so what's the problem?

Anyway, while I like Yu-Gi-Oh enough (I learned to play like 12 years ago and completed some older games for the Game Boy and the GBA), I would kill for something similar with Pokémon TCG. I used to play that quite a lot (even though not quite on a tournament level), and I was addicted to both the first version on the GBC and the Japan-only sequel, I stopped collecting the actual cards many years ago, and I haven't really played TCG online either, not to mention I couldn't really keep up with the changes and power creep of the new cards... But a game where all the cards would be available right from Base Set; that would be the coolest thing ever.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #6 - Mega Man 3

Krisi

Who voted for the American box art, lol.

Anyway, a more interesting poll would've been the box art for the original Mega Man. I just LOVE the European version. It really has that old school theme of not following the source material exactly, but at the same time it's still as accurate as you can get, and the art overall looks amazing.
